Kyle Harrison Done For The Season

Updating a previous report, San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Kyle Harrison (shoulder) was placed in the injured list on Friday with left-shoulder inflammation. The Giants have shut him down for the remainder of the season and will look towards 2025 for the lefty. Harrison's velocity had been down in the second half of the season, resulting in a very subpar 5.63 ERA in eight starts after the All-Star break. The 23-year-old was able to make 24 starts this season and posted a 4.56 ERA, though it was paired with a 4.85 xERA (17th percentile). Harrison will have work to do to improve in 2025 and stabilize the back end of a solid Giants rotation. Fantasy managers who are looking to replace Harrison on their roster may want to look at Hayden Birdsong, who has struck out 64 batters in 52 IP, though his 5.19 ERA may cause some worries.

Giants Place Kyle Harrison On 15-Day Injured List

The San Francisco Giants placed left-hander Kyle Harrison (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to Sept. 4) on Friday with left-shoulder inflammation and recalled right-hander Austin Warren from Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move. The move comes after Harrison was slapped around on Tuesday in his most recent outing versus the division-rival Arizona Diamondbacks, when he surrendered six earned runs on seven hits while walking one and fanning three in just 2 2/3 frames. The 23-year-old southpaw has been awful since the start of August with a 7.76 ERA and 1.57 WHIP over 26 2/3 innings, but it's unclear how long his shoulder has been bothering him. There is time for Harrison to return to SF's starting rotation, but only if he's able to return after the 15 days. In any event, there's a good chance we've seen the last of Harrison in 2024.

Kyle Harrison Strikes Out 11 On Friday

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Kyle Harrison struck out 11 batters across 6 2/3 innings of one-run ball. He allowed just one hit and two walks. The only run scored in the third inning off a sacrifice fly by Ezequiel Tovar. The 22-year-old southpaw has begun to find his footing over his last three starts, as he has carried a stellar 1.06 ERA, 0.82 WHIP, and a 7:20 BB:K. Prior to his most recent three outings, Harrison carried a hefty 5.55 ERA and 1.57 WHIP from May 12 to July 6. Overall, he sits with a 3.69 ERA and 1.28 WHIP through 97 innings this season. Harrison could be worth starting in all leagues as he continues this excellent run.

Kyle Harrison To Come Off Injured List And Start On Saturday

San Francisco Giants left-hander Kyle Harrison (ankle) is slated to be reinstated from the 15-day injured list in order to make his return to the team's starting rotation on Saturday against the hosting Cleveland Guardians. Harrison has missed almost a month of action due to a right-ankle sprain, but he's going to skip a minor-league rehab assignment and jump right back into big-league action. The 22-year-old southpaw will be making his first start since June 10. Harrison has been decent for the Giants and fantasy managers in 2024, going 4-3 with a 3.96 ERA and 1.33 WHIP with 68 strikeouts in 14 starts covering 77 1/3 innings. He'll be much more risky in fantasy lineups in his first start back after a long layoff, though, especially on the road and against the first-place Guardians. Tread carefully on Saturday.

Kyle Harrison Throws Seven Scoreless Innings In Win

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Kyle Harrison threw seven scoreless innings in Tuesday's 5-0 victory over the Rockies, picking up his third win of the year. The southpaw allowed just four hits while walking two and striking out two. He now sports a 3.20 ERA (3.81 FIP), 1.22 WHIP, and a 15.1% K-BB% on the year through eight starts. Known for being more of a strikeout pitcher, his 40 strikeouts in 45 IP is somewhat disappointing, but other than that there isn't much to complain about. The 22-year-old is having a fine season so far for the Giants, and his next start tentatively lines up with the Reds next week at home. The Reds have a .208 batting average as a team against LHP, which is fifth-worst in the league.

Kyle Harrison Strikes Out Seven On Thursday

San Francisco Giants left-hander Kyle Harrison turned in a quality performance in a 3-1 win over the Boston Red Sox on Thursday. Harrison allowed one run on three hits over five innings of work while striking out seven and walking five but had to settle for a no-decision in the contest. Harrison struggled a bit with his control in issuing five free passes but was able to work around the walks on the way to lowering his ERA to 3.79. Harrison now has a 2-1 record and 38 strikeouts over 38 innings of work in 2024. He will look to keep it going in his next start, which is scheduled to come on Tuesday on the road against the Colorado Rockies.

Kyle Harrison Wild But Effective On Thursday

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Kyle Harrison issued five walks but still managed to throw five innings of one-run ball in a 3-1 win against the Boston Red Sox on Thursday. Harrison didn't pick up the win as San Francisco went ahead for good in the seventh, but Harrison had a solid start nonetheless. He allowed just three hits and struck out seven to round out his line. The 22-year-old rookie has allowed three or fewer runs in six of his seven starts this season. If Harrison can put it all together, he's got major upside that warrants being rostered in most leagues.

Kyle Harrison Strikes Out Five In Win

San Francisco Giants starter Kyle Harrison pitched six innings Friday, giving up six hits and two earned runs, but he didn't walk a batter and struck out five on the way to earning a win in his first start of the 2024 season. Harrison threw 54 of his 76 pitches for strikes, which was great to see from someone who is known for his strikeout ability but also for some command issues during his time in the minor leagues. Two of the hits were home runs (Machado, Tatis) and he gave up eight long balls last season in 34 2/3 IP at the major league level, which makes limiting the walks all that more important going forward. The southpaw likely gets the Dodgers next.

Kyle Harrison Having An Impressive Spring

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Kyle Harrison was dominant in Thursdays Cactus League outing against the Los Angeles Dodgers. His outing was cut short due to rain, but the left-hander went 2 2/3 innings and allowed two hits, zero runs, two walks and struck out six. The highly touted 22-year-old made his big-league debut this past season and had mixed results with a 4.15 ERA to go along with a 1.15 WHIP and 35 strikeouts over 34 2/3 innings. Harrison has always been a strikeout artist and developed a new cutter this offseason that is already looking dangerous early on in spring. Harrison is going to break camp with the Giants barring something unforeseen and offers plenty of upside with an ADP of 246.

Kyle Harrison Has A New Pitch

San Francisco Giants top prospect Kyle Harrison debuted a new cutter during his Cactus League outing on Sunday against the Texas Rangers. The 22-year-old left-hander struck out four and hit a batter while not allowing a hit in two scoreless innings. Harrison began to develop his cutter last year but has been using it more, and it should become a bigger part of his repertoire heading into his first full season in San Francisco's starting rotation. Before adding a cutter, Harrison was a fastball, slider, and changeup pitcher. In his first seven MLB starts in 2023, he had a 4.15 ERA and 1.15 WHIP with 35 K's and 11 walks in 34 2/3 innings. His fly-ball tendencies should be mitigated by his pitcher-friendly home park in San Fran, and a big jump is expected from Harrison in 2024, although a likely innings limit could cap his fantasy upside.
