Luisangel Acuna Hits Third Homer Of Season, Stays Hot With Multi-Hit Game

New York Mets shortstop Luisangel Acuna hit his third homer of the season as part of a two-hit game in the Mets' 6-3 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday afternoon. Acuna's solo shot came in the second inning off of Phillies' starter Ranger Suarez. The 22-year-old has filled in phenomenally for the Mets as Francisco Lindor recovers from back issues and now is hitting for a 1.292 OPS in 26 AB. The small sample size needs to be considered, but it's given Acuna a chance to potentially be a part of the October roster should the Mets hold onto their wild card lead (currently 2.0 games ahead of the Atlanta Braves). Fantasy managers needing help at shortstop to finish the season should ensure Acuna is on their rosters and DFS managers may want to check for him when needing a cheap option at shortstop. Acuna will have a tough assignment on Sunday against Phillies scheduled starter Zack Wheeler. His at-bats Tuesday-Thursday will be met with much intrigue, though, as his Mets face off in a critically important season against his brother Ronald Acuna Jr.'s Atlanta Braves.

Luisangel Acuna Homers In Second Consecutive Games

New York Mets shortstop Luisangel Acuna went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, and two runs scored in Wednesday's 10-0 win over the Nationals. It was the second home run of the 22-year-old's career, homering in back-to-back games now for the big league club. He's shown well so far in limited action, going 7-for-15 (.467) with three extra-base hits, four RBI, and five runs scored. We have yet to see his speed put on display though after stealing 40 bases in 131 games at Triple-A this season before his call-up. He should get at least one more start while Francisco Lindor deals with his back problem, but it remains to be seen if he'll stick with the team once Lindor returns. Acuna's speed could be an asset off the bench in tight games down the stretch as the Mets push for a playoff berth.

Luisangel Acuna Hits First Career Home Run Tuesday

New York Mets shortstop prospect Luisangel Acuna had a milestone evening in Tuesday's 10-1 win over the Nationals. The 22-year-old went 3-for-4 with a single, a double, a solo home run, and two RBI. Acuna crushed an eighth-inning Joe La Sorsa offering deep to left-center field for his first big-league long ball. Acuna, who is the Mets' No. 12 prospect per MLB Pipeline, has hit .455 with an .818 slugging percentage in his first four games. His numbers with Triple-A Syracuse weren't so stellar that fantasy managers should be placing their trust in him at the end of this season, but they should certainly keep an eye on him for the rest of September.

Mets Calling Up Luisangel Acuna

The New York Mets are calling up infield/outfield prospect Luisangel Acuna from Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday, according to sources. Acuna will mostly serve as infield insurance for the Mets after shortstop Francisco Lindor (back) left Friday night's game against the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies due to lower-back tightness. While the 22-year-old is the team's No. 12 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, he shouldn't be expected to get any kind of regular run with the Mets in the midst of a push for a wild-card spot in the National League. In his first taste of Triple-A this year, Acuna has hit .258/.299/.355 with seven home runs, 50 RBI and 40 stolen bases in 131 games at Syracuse. The 5-foot-8, 181-pounder is the brother of Ronald Acuna Jr. and is mostly known for his blazing speed. Acuna will most likely serve as a pinch-runner for the Mets down the stretch.

Luisangel Acuna Fills Stat Sheet For Triple-A Syracuse

New York Mets shortstop prospect Luisangel Acuna did a little bit of everything on Tuesday night for Triple-A Syracuse, recording a home run as one of his four hits to go with three RBI and two stolen bases. It was the 11th multi-hit, multi-steal game in the minors for the 22-year-old shortstop who was traded to the Mets in the Max Scherzer deal. Acuna is hitting .263/.307/.673 at Triple-A this season with seven homers, 46 RBI, and 34 stolen bases. The Mets' No. 12 prospect is the younger brother of Ronald Acuna, Jr. He offers a 50-grade hit tool with 60-grade speed. There is a lot of upside with Acuna and fantasy managers could see that soon if he is called up when rosters expand in September or at some point next season.

Luisangel Acuna Scratched With Sore Foot

New York Mets infield prospect Luisangel Acuna (foot) was scratched from Triple-A Syracuse's lineup for Thursday's game because he has a sore foot. Acuna, New York's No. 4 prospect for 2024, should be considered day-to-day with the issue, and fantasy managers in dynasty leagues hope it's only a minor setback. It's still yet another roadblock in the way of a potential promotion to the bigs in 2024 for the 22-year-old speedster, who's batting a decent .262 (107-for-408) with 75 runs scored and 31 stolen bases this season, but he has just five home runs, 14 doubles, and 37 RBI in 97 games in the minor leagues. The key piece to last year's Max Scherzer trade with the Texas Rangers for the Mets, Acuna's defense is also a work in progress, and his only pathway to the majors this season likely entails an injury to a member of the middle infield in Queens. If not that, Harrison Bader or Jose Iglesias would likely need to fall into a deep slump.

Luisangel Acuna Continuing To Look Strong At Triple-A

New York Mets infield prospect Luisangel Acuna has been enjoying a big turnaround at Triple-A since struggling over the first two months of the season. After posting an incredible 12-game hitting streak through June, Acuna continued to produce and has never gone more than two games without tallying at least one hit. Even though he has cooled off in July, he still sits with a solid .240 AVG since the last week of June. Through his first 86 games at the Triple-A level, the 22-year-old has posted a .259/.311/.355 line, but most of this is negatively affected by his poor start. From June 1, Acuna has held a dominant .291/.338/.386 line. Acuna's name could be called in the stretch run of the season as the Mets continue to hang around the wild card race especially since he is comfortable in playing at multiple positions across the infield.

Luisangel Acuna Red-Hot At Triple-A Syracuse

New York Mets infield/outfield prospect Luisangel Acuna logged three hits for Triple-A Syracuse Sunday, extending his hitting streak to 10 games in a torrid stretch. During his 10-game hitting streak, Acuna has five multi-hit games. The 22-year-old is hitting .312 in June and has raised his season-long batting average to .271. The Mets No. 5 prospect has shown off the wheels with 26 stolen bases this year. His pure hitting ability and above-average speed make him a great future fantasy contributor. Acuna could get a look for New York at some point this season and when he does is worthy of waiver-wire consideration in leagues of all sizes.

Luisangel Acuna Making Adjustments

On May 1, New York Mets infield prospect Luisangel Acuna was hitting .216, but now he's sitting at .254 after working with minor-league coaches J.P. Arencibia and Collin Hetzler to tighten his swing and lower his leg kick. They also wanted Acuna to stay back more instead of trying to go out and get pitches. The adjustments have worked, as Acuna is racking up more hits and hitting more balls in the air to left field. The brother of Braves star Ronald Acuna Jr., is currently on the Mets' 40-man roster. He's split playing time this year at Triple-A Syracuse at shortstop, second base and center field and has played all three positions well, according to evaluators. In his last 20 games for Syracuse, the 22-year-old is hitting .303 with eight stolen bases. Acuna is the team's No. 5 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, and could make his big-league debut later this year if the Mets fall further out of contention.

Luisangel Acuna Extends Hit Streak To Nine Games

New York Mets shortstop prospect Luisangel Acuna went 2-for-5 with a walk, two runs scored, and two stolen bases on Sunday for Triple-A Syracuse. The pair of singles extended the 22-year-old's hit streak to nine games, although he isn't exactly knocking the cover off the ball during the streak with a .273 average and no home runs. The right-handed hitter has four doubles, three triples, and two home runs on the season, but even the last nine games could only bring his season batting average to .233. It's part of the reason that Acuna dropped 22 spots on MLB.com's most recently updated Top-100 prospects list, going from 58 to 80. The speed is still there though, totaling 13 stolen bases through 34 games.
