Luisangel Acuna to Compete for Center Field Role

Chicago White Sox infielder Luisangel Acuna is expected to compete for the starting center field role during spring training, according to Dan Bartels of The New York Post. Acuna was shipped to the White Sox from the New York Mets earlier this winter in exchange for outfielder Luis Robert Jr. Acuna made his MLB debut during the 2024 season, but earned his first extended stint in the big league last summer. Across a career-high 95 games with the Mets in 2025, Acuna held a .234/.293/.274 slash line with seven doubles and 16 stolen bases. Through 159 career games at Triple-A, Acuna has held a .265/.307/.360 line with seven long balls and 48 stolen bases. Even though Acuna has primarily been an infielder coming up through the New York system, he will have an opportunity to carve out a role in the Chicago outfield. He is a name to watch in deeper category formats given his high-speed upside.

Luisangel Acuna Sent to White Sox in Trade

The Chicago White Sox acquired second baseman Luisangel Acuna from the New York Mets in exchange for outfielder Luis Robert Jr. on Tuesday evening. Additionally, the White Sox acquired right-handed pitcher Truman Pauley. The 23-year-old second baseman received his first full stint in the big leagues last season, following a brief 14-game stint back in 2024. Through 98 games with the Mets last summer, Acuna posted a .234/.293/.274 slash line with seven doubles and 16 stolen bases. While he generated a low .271 xwOBA, he flashed immense speed upside, sitting in the 99th percentile, suggesting he could increase in that department if given a full-time role. Through 159 games with Triple-A split over the last two campaigns, Acuna has carried a .265/.307/.360 line seven home runs and 48 stolen bases. Managers should expect Acuna to compete for a starting role in the Chicago infield during spring training. If he earns a consistent role, he would have appeal in deeper category formats given his speed production.

Mets Recalling Luisangel Acuna

MLB Network's Jon Heyman reports that the New York Mets are recalling second baseman Luisangel Acuna to the big-league squad. Acuna was demoted a few weeks back as he wasn't garnering frequent at-bats for New York, but he'll be up with the team on Thursday at least for their scheduled doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles. The 23-year-old has had trouble consistently impacting the game with his bat, but has been a critical piece for the Amazins' in late-game base-running and defensive situations due to his athleticism. In 12 appearances for Triple-A Syracuse in 2025, he's slashing a solid .289/.346/.378. It's unclear how long he'll stay in the majors, but he doesn't project to make a difference in fantasy lineups as of now.

Luisangel Acuna Optioned to Triple-A Syracuse

New York Mets infielder Luisangel Acuna has been sent back down to Triple-A Syracuse. The 23-year-old hadn't been receiving regular at-bats with New York, garnering just 19 total plate appearances in June, and had been limited mostly to serving as a pinch runner or late-game defensive replacement. At Syracuse, the right-handed hitter should get regular at-bats in order to stay fresh for when there is a need for him on the big league club. For the season, Acuna hit .241 with six doubles, no home runs, and 11 steals in 145 at-bats. A solid 79.3 percent contact rate and better than better-than-average 18.4 percent strikeout rate bode well for him in his next turn with the Mets, which will likely be sometime later in the year, however, there is no need to hold onto him in fantasy leagues.

Luisangel Acuna, Jeff McNeil Sitting Against Lefty

New York Mets infielders Luisangel Acuna and Jeff McNeil are both sitting out Friday's series opener against the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers with left-hander Clayton Kershaw on the mound. Brett Baty is starting at second base and batting eighth for the Mets. Acuna has only been in the lineup twice in the team's last six games, with each of his last four starts actually coming against left-handed pitchers. The 23-year-old is hitting a decent .267 (31-for-116) on the year with 10 stolen bases, but he's still searching for his first homer. McNeil got a late start in 2025 due to injury and has gone 13-for-58 (.245) with two homers and eight RBI in his first 21 games played. Baty won't be a great DFS sleeper on Friday. He's gone 2-for-11 against southpaws so far in 2025 and has never faced Kershaw in his career.

Luisangel Acuna Tallies Two Hits, Swipes A Bag On Monday

New York Mets infield prospect Luisangel Acuna went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs, and a stolen base during their 5-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins. In the third inning, Acuna would reach first via a base-on-balls and then steal second base. This was his fourth stolen base of the young season. He would then score on a Pete Alonso single. In the fifth, Acuna would hit a double to right field. He would end his evening with a single in the seventh and would eventually score his second run on a Juan Soto home run. The 23-year-old has now tallied a hit in each of his last four contests. During this stretch, he has swiped three bags and held a .571 slugging percentage. With Brett Baty holding an underwhelming .139 average through the first two weeks of the season, Acuna could eventually become the top option at the keystone. If he continues to see stable opportunities, he would be worth adding in all standard leagues given his ability to steal bases.

Luisangel Acuna Getting The Start At Second Base On Opening Day

New York Mets infielder Luisangel Acuna is making the start at second base on Opening Day on Thursday against the Houston Astros and left-hander Framber Valdez at Daikin Park in Houston. With Jeff McNeil (oblique) opening the season on the injured list, the Mets are expected to go with a platoon at the keystone between Acuna and the lefty-hitting Brett Baty. The 23-year-old Acuna, the younger brother of Braves All-Star Ronald Acuna Jr., had a .966 OPS in his first 14 major-league games a season ago, but he went 13-for-52 (.250) with a double, five RBI, three steals, seven runs and eight strikeouts in 56 plate appearances over 21 Grapefruit League games this spring. Acuna will have a role to open the 2025 season, but Baty is expected to see most of the playing time at second, and Acuna could head back to the minors when McNeil makes his return from the IL.

Luisangel Acuna Makes Mets Opening Day Roster

New York Mets infielder Luisangel Acuna has made the team's Opening Day roster, sources tell ElExtraBase's Daniel Alvarez-Montes. Acuna's chances of making the roster out of camp increased dramatically when Jeff McNeil went down with an oblique injury. The 23-year-old Venezuelan middle infielder, who is the younger brother of Atlanta Braves superstar Ronald Acuna Jr., made his major-league debut last year and went 12-for-39 (.308) with three home runs and six RBI in just 14 regular-season games played. He hit .250 (13-fo-52) with a double, five RBI, three stolen bases and seven runs scored in 21 Grapefruit League games this spring. To begin the 2025 regular season, Acuna, who bats right-handed, figures to be on the short side of a platoon at second base with Brett Baty. When McNeil returns from his injury, Acuna could be ticketed for a trip back to the minors.

Brett Baty, Luisangel Acuna Could Platoon At Second Base

It sounds like New York Mets infielders Brett Baty and Luisangel Acuna will both make the Opening Day roster out of camp and platoon at second base until Jeff McNeil (oblique) is able to return. Given his experience and the fact that he hits from the left side, Baty figures to open the year on the strong side of a platoon at the keystone in Queens with Acuna. The 25-year-old has deserved playing time to open the season, as he's currently hitting .343 (12-for-35) with two home runs and three doubles in Grapefruit League action. The former 12th overall pick in 2019 has yet to find much success at the big-league level in three seasons, though, hitting .215/.282/.325 with 15 homers and 55 RBI in 169 games. Acuna, 23, has hit just .226 in spring training, although he did go 12-for-39 (.308) with three homers and six RBI in his first 14 big-league games in 2024.

Luisangel Acuna Exits Early On Saturday

New York Mets infield prospect Luisangel Acuna (arm) exited Saturday's contest after being hit by a pitch on his left arm. He was hit by Tampa Bay Rays left-handed pitcher Shane McClanahan in the second frame. The young infielder was able to swipe second base before being pulled from the contest. Fantasy managers should monitor his status as the team could have removed him out of precaution. Earlier in the week, infielder Nick Madrigal (shoulder) underwent surgery to repair his fractured shoulder which will keep him sidelined for the entire season. Acuna is expected to have a more significant role in camp with Madrigal's injury, but Acuna now may have to remain sidelined for a period of time. Last season, Acuna made his MLB debut and posted a strong .308/.325/.641 line across 14 games. When healthy, he will compete for starts at the keystone alongside Jeff McNeil.
