It's unclear how long he'll stay in the majors, but he doesn't project to make a difference in fantasy lineups as of now.

The 23-year-old hadn't been receiving regular at-bats with New York, garnering just 19 total plate appearances in June, and had been limited mostly to serving as a pinch runner or late-game defensive replacement. At Syracuse, the right-handed hitter should get regular at-bats in order to stay fresh for when there is a need for him on the big league club. For the season, Acuna hit .241 with six doubles, no home runs, and 11 steals in 145 at-bats. A solid 79.3 percent contact rate and better than better-than-average 18.4 percent strikeout rate bode well for him in his next turn with the Mets, which will likely be sometime later in the year, however, there is no need to hold onto him in fantasy leagues.

Given his experience and the fact that he hits from the left side, Baty figures to open the year on the strong side of a platoon at the keystone in Queens with Acuna. The 25-year-old has deserved playing time to open the season, as he's currently hitting .343 (12-for-35) with two home runs and three doubles in Grapefruit League action. The former 12th overall pick in 2019 has yet to find much success at the big-league level in three seasons, though, hitting .215/.282/.325 with 15 homers and 55 RBI in 169 games. Acuna, 23, has hit just .226 in spring training, although he did go 12-for-39 (.308) with three homers and six RBI in his first 14 big-league games in 2024.

Earlier in the week, infielder Nick Madrigal (shoulder) underwent surgery to repair his fractured shoulder which will keep him sidelined for the entire season. Acuna is expected to have a more significant role in camp with Madrigal's injury, but Acuna now may have to remain sidelined for a period of time.
