Patrick Corbin News
Washington Nationals starting pitcher Patrick Corbin threw a bullpen session on Tuesday. Nationals manager Davey Martinez stated that the team wanted to make sure he was fine after the session before officially declaring him good to go for his next start. He has indeed been cleared by the team and he will make his next start on Thursday against the Miami Marlins. The 32-year-old is off to a nightmarish start to the 2022 season. Through four starts, he's gone 0-3 with an 11.20 ERA and a 2.56 WHIP.
Washington Nationals pitcher Patrick Corbin will be the team's Opening Day starter when they host the Mets on Thursday, April 7. Coming off a truly horrendous season in which he led the majors in losses (16), earned runs (111) and home runs allowed (37), the 32-year-old southpaw is looking to bounce back in 2022. He's had an excellent spring so far, posting a 0.00 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 10:2 K:BB through nine innings (two starts) of Grapefruit League play. He's a low-risk dart throw in fantasy, considering it shouldn't take much to improve on his ugly 5.82 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 143:60 K:BB over 171 2/3 innings from last season.
Washington Nationals starting pitcher Patrick Corbin (finger) won't pitch again in 2021. He is dealing with a blister on his finger. The injury news came up after his start against the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday. He would have lined up to pitch in the team's final game of the season on Sunday, but manager Davey Martinez told the media that he didn't want to push it. Corbin had a rough season overall, going 9-16 with a 5.82 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP. At least he ended the year on a high note as he recorded a pair of quality starts in his last two outings.

Washington Nationals starting pitcher Patrick Corbin had a phenomenal performance in 2019, but 65 innings in 2020 is causing everyone to seek life jackets. Before they jump off the ship, you can hear them screaming "Velocity is dropping," as it dropped two mph from the second half of 2019. Corbin finished the year with a 4.17 FIP, but history and bad luck indicate a bounce-back could be in the future. This isn't the first time his velocity sat near 90.2 mph in the first half of the season (90.4 mph in 2018 and 91 mph in 2019). Though he got hitters to chase at his routine rate (37.8%), Corbin didn't get his normal level of strikeouts as batters made more contact than normal leading to a .362 BABIP. His slider, for example, incited the same chase frequency (46%), but it didn't have the expected dominating results. Batters were able to make 18% more contact outside the zone (47%) than in 2019. Many players are getting a mulligan for 2020, but Corbin's current ADP of 149 show he's not getting similar treatment. Though he'll be 32 years old during the 2021 season, Corbin has shown he can improve his velocity during the season. It is not much of a risk to see if he can do it again, considering where he's currently being drafted.
