Washington Nationals starting pitcher Patrick Corbin took advantage of a favorable matchup in Tuesday's 6-2 win over the Marlins. Corbin pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and three walks with eight strikeouts. The 35-year-old veteran has put together a modest three-game win streak in which he has allowed three total runs in 17 2/3 IP with 22 strikeouts. However, he still owns a poor 5-12 record on the season with a 5.41 ERA, a 1.52 WHIP, and a 7.12 K/9 rate in 28 starts and 153 IP. His next start will be another favorable one at the Pirates, but fantasy managers may want to avoid starting him given his low floor.
Patrick Corbin Shuts Down Yankees In Tuesday's Win
Washington Nationals starting pitcher Patrick Corbin improved to 4-12 on Tuesday, pitching a gem against a tough Yankees lineup in a 4-2 win. Corbin pitched six scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and two walks with six strikeouts. The 35-year-old veteran has strung together two consecutive quality starts, but his overall season numbers are still poor with a 5.50 ERA, a 6.90 K/9 rate, and a 2.93 BB/9 rate in 27 starts and 147 1/3 IP. His next start will be a much more favorable matchup at the Marlins. Even so, fantasy managers may not want to trust Corbin so close to fantasy playoffs.
Washington Nationals starting pitcher Patrick Corbin earned his seventh quality start of the season on Thursday versus the Colorado Rockies. The veteran earned it by going six innings with four hits, one run, one walk and eight strikeouts. The veteran has been a rollercoaster all season and is now 3-12 with an ugly 5.73 ERA in 26 starts. Next up for the left-hander will be a date against the New York Yankees on Tuesday. Corbin should be avoided in that matchup and in general moving forward with his inconsistencies on the mound.
Despite a nice performance on Thursday, Washington Nationals starting pitcher Patrick Corbin fell to 2-10 on the season. Corbin tossed seven innings, allowing four hits, three runs, three walks and striking out seven, but it would not come close to his opponent, Dylan Cease's no-hitter. Despite the loss, Corbin has been put together back-to-back quality starts and it will be interesting to see if the Nationals are able to move the veteran at the upcoming trade deadline. Regardless of where he is pitching, Corbin is nothing more than a streaming option in the most favorable matchups. Next up for Corbin will be a date on the road against his former team, the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday.
Washington Nationals left-hander Patrick Corbin took a hard-luck loss in a 7-1 defeat at the hands of the Cleveland Guardians on Friday. Corbin turned in a quality start, allowing just two runs on six hits over six innings while striking out five and walking three. Despite the solid start, the veteran southpaw saw his record drop to 1-6 on the season, to go along with a 5.83 ERA, 1.67 WHIP, and 41 strikeouts over 66 1/3 innings of work. Corbin's recent track record suggests that he should not be trusted in fantasy leagues moving forward.
Patrick Corbin Looking To Get Straightened Out Friday
Washington Nationals left-hander Patrick Corbin will look to get straightened out on Friday when he toes the rubber against the visiting Toronto Blue Jays. The 34-year-old yielded seven runs his last time out against the Miami Marlins, and while only four were earned, it's the fifth time in six starts this season in which he had yielded at least four earned runs. He coughed up eight hits, including a homer, alongside a pair of walks in just four innings his last time out. The ugly outing raised his ERA to 6.82 through six starts this season after he tossed a 5.20 ERA across 32 starts last season. He will take on a Jays team that sports a .314 wOBA versus left-handed pitching this season, good for a share of 13th league-wide.
Washington Nationals left-hander Patrick Corbin looked better in his second Grapefruit League outing on Thursday while incorporating more of his newest pitch, a cutter. He needed 49 pitches to complete 1 2/3 innings last Saturday, but on Thursday he cruised through three innings on 41 pitches (32 strikes) and didn't allow a run or walk a batter while scattering three hits and striking out four. One of his K's came on his new cutter. Corbin induced swings on six of the seven cutters he threw (three whiffs). The 34-year-old southpaw plans to continue using the cutter to complement his traditional fastballs-slider combo that he has struggled with in recent seasons. It's something to keep an eye on, but most fantasy managers are avoiding Corbin this year after he had a weak 15.7% strikeout rate last year.
Washington Nationals pitcher Patrick Corbin will be in search of a bounce-back effort Tuesday night when he takes on the New York Mets at Nationals Park. The veteran left-hander was touched up for six earned runs on 10 hits and one walk across five innings against the Blue Jays his last time out. He has largely been plagued by inconsistency again this season but previously went four straight starts allowing three earned runs or fewer before his latest hiccup. For the season, Corbin sports a 4.90 ERA across 27 starts, his best mark since the shortened 2020 season. The southpaw will take on a Mets offense that is tied for 22nd with a .306 wOBA versus left-handed pitching this season.
The Washington Nationals placed left-hander Patrick Corbin on the paternity list on Friday and recalled right-hander Paolo Espino from Triple-A Rochester in a corresponding move. Corbin was not scheduled to pitch this weekend against the St. Louis Cardinals in the first series of the second half of the season, so he's unlikely to miss his first start of the second half. The 33-year-old southpaw continues to be tough to trust in fantasy leagues, as he gave up a league-high 135 hits in the first half of the season while also recording a 4.89 ERA (4.92 FIP), 1.55 WHIP, 33 walks and only 74 strikeouts in 108 2/3 innings over his 19 starts. Corbin also leads the league with 10 losses. Things continue to go downhill for him after coming over from Arizona in 2019.
The Washington Nationals announced on Friday that left-hander Patrick Corbin will take the hill on Opening Day on Thursday, March 30, to face the division-rival Atlanta Braves. Corbin will get the nod despite going 6-19 with a career-worst 6.31 ERA (4.83 FIP), 1.69 WHIP and career-low 18 percent strikeout rate in 152 2/3 innings pitched and 31 starts for the Nationals in 2022. The 33-year-old has pitched better in Grapefruit League action this spring, but there shouldn't be too many fantasy managers in deeper leagues that should feel bold enough to roll the dice on Corbin in their starting lineups on Opening Day against the National League East defending-champion Braves next week.
