Reid Detmers Could Lead Angels in Saves?

Los Angeles Angels pitcher Reid Detmers appeared to have finally turned a corner when he became a full-time reliever last season. According to Jeff Passan, he wouldn't be shocked if Detmers leads the Angels in saves in 2026. Detmers was a struggling starter for the first four years of his career before shifting to the bullpen in 2025. He registered a 3.96 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and an 80/25 K/BB across 61 appearances last season. The Angels are giving him another chance in the rotation this spring. However, it's not going well with a 7.27 ERA across three starts. The best route for him could be as a late-inning reliever. Detmers recorded three saves last season, and it sounds like he could be the favorite for the closer role in 2026.

Reid Detmers to Serve as a Starter Next Year

Los Angeles Angels general manager Perry Minasian said over the weekend that left-hander Reid Detmers (elbow) will move back into the team's starting rotation next season, according to Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register. Detmers ended the 2025 campaign on the 60-day injured list due to a left-elbow injury, but he's expected to be recovered by the start of next year and will be stretched out as a starter after spending all of 2024 in a relief role. The 26-year-old southpaw bounced back nicely in 61 relief appearances (63 2/3 innings), posting a 3.96 ERA and 1.30 WHIP with 80 strikeouts, 25 walks, and his first three career saves. It was good to see after Detmers had a bloated 6.70 ERA in 17 starts for the Halos in 2024. The former first-rounder has had trouble with the long ball and has been very inconsistent in Anaheim, but his strikeout upside will make him a starting pitcher sleeper in fantasy drafts next spring.

Reid Detmers Placed on 15-Day Injured List

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Reid Detmers (elbow) was placed on the 15-day injured list on Thursday. This news comes after Detmers was removed from Wednesday's outing due to elbow discomfort. His 2025 season is now basically over, with only a few weeks left in the regular season. He'll finish his year with a 3.96 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and an 80/25 K/BB across 63 2/3 innings of work this season. In a corresponding move, right-hander Chase Silseth has been recalled to take over the active roster spot. Detmers can safely be dropped in all fantasy formats.

Reid Detmers Exits With Forearm Discomfort, Will Undergo MRI

Los Angeles Angels left-handed reliever Reid Detmers (forearm) exited early in a 4-3 win over the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday with forearm discomfort, interim manager Ray Black told reporters. He retired the first two hitters he faced in the top of the eighth inning and then came out after allowing a double to James Outman. Detmers is now scheduled to undergo an MRI on Thursday. After working as a starter from 2021-24, the 26-year-old former first-round pick has been effective out of the Angels' bullpen this season. Over 61 appearances and 63 2/3 innings, Detmers has gone 5-3 with a 3.96 ERA (3.13 FIP), a 1.30 WHIP, 80:25 K:BB, 13 holds, and three saves.

Reid Detmers To Start In The Bullpen

Los Angeles Angels left-hander Reid Detmers will open the 2025 regular season in the bullpen, according to manager Ron Washington. Detmers will be set for a long-relief/swing role to start after losing out on the final starting rotation spot to sinker-baller right-hander Jack Kochanowicz. The 25-year-old southpaw will almost certainly make some starts for the Halos this year, but it won't be early in the season. Detmers, a former first-rounder in 2020, wasn't bad this spring, as he had a 2.79 ERA and 1.09 WHIP while walking four and striking out 17 in 19 1/3 Cactus League innings over six appearances (three starts). He started off last year strong before going 0-6 with an 8.93 ERA in eight starts, which earned him a trip to Triple-A Salt Lake. Detmers has already thrown a no-hitter at the big-league level, but he continues to search for consistency and won't really have much fantasy appeal as long as he's pitching in relief.

Reid Detmers Has Leg Up For Fifth Rotation Spot?

The Athletic's Sam Blum writes that the early pick for the Los Angeles Angels' fifth starter spot is left-hander Reid Detmers. Tyler Anderson, Kyle Hendricks, Yusei Kikuchi and Jose Soriano are effectively locked into the top four spots. Detmers will be on a short leash, though, given how poorly he performed in 2024. It will be a wide-open competition this spring, though, and Detmers has minor-league options remaining. Jack Kochanowicz looked great down the stretch last year, and Chase Silseth, Caden Dana, Samuel Aldegheri and George Klassen will be options. Detmers has thrown a no-hitter for the Angels and has a 26.8% strikeout rate the last two seasons, but he held a 6.70 ERA last year and had trouble keeping the ball in the yard. The southpaw is only 25, but he will need to show more consistency to cement himself into the No. 5 spot.

Reid Detmers Earns Another Quality Start Monday

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Reid Detmers delivered another solid performance in Monday's 6-2 win over the Twins. Detmers pitched six innings, allowing two runs on five hits (including a solo home run) and two walks with eight strikeouts. The 25-year-old was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on September 3 and has allowed four runs in 12 IP with 18 strikeouts in his two starts back. Detmers has shown fantasy promise at times throughout his career but has also been very inconsistent. Fantasy managers may not be willing to trust him, but his next start could be an excellent one against the White Sox. Given the strong matchup and recent performance, he may be worth a fantasy start consideration if he were to make the start.

Reid Detmers Set To Be Recalled From Triple-A

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Reid Detmers is set to be promoted from Triple-A Salt Lake according to Russell Dorsey of Yahoo Sports. Detmers made 12 starts at the major league level this summer but struggled with a 6.14 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP through 63 innings of work. At Triple-A this season, the southpaw has been on an impressive run as he sits with a stellar 1.29 ERA and a 0.86 WHIP across his past three outings. Overall, in 78 frames at Triple-A, the former first-round selection has held a 5.54 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP. Deeper league managers should consider taking a flier on Detmers as he has flashed a high upside at times, but should be careful when deploying him because he has struggled to maintain consistency throughout his professional career.

Reid Detmers Tosses Gem At Triple-A

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Reid Detmers tossed a gem in his most recent outing at Triple-A and could be on his way back to the major leagues. In this start, the southpaw logged eight innings of one-run ball while striking out 11 batters. He allowed just three hits and two free passes. This was the third time he hit the double-digit mark in punchouts at Triple-A this summer. Detmers opened the season in the big leagues but was demoted to Salt Lake in June after carrying a 6.14 ERA through the opening months of the campaign. While his production at Triple-A has not been much better, this start is an excellent way for the 25-year-old to build some momentum. For now, he should remain on all waiver wires but could be an interesting stash candidate in deeper leagues if he continues to find his stride at Triple-A.

Reid Detmers Optioned To Triple-A Salt Lake

The Los Angeles Angels optioned left-hander Reid Detmers to Triple-A Salt Lake following Saturday's 9-0 loss to the Seattle Mariners. Detmers allowed five runs on four hits and four walks while striking out three across 3 2/3 innings in Saturday's loss to Seattle. Most of the damage to Detmers came off a grand slam to Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford. The 24-year-old has struggled this season, posting a 6.14 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, and 70 strikeouts over 63 innings. He has allowed at least five runs in five of his last seven starts. Detmers will look to get back on track in Triple-A and is mainly a stash in deep-league formats.
