Termarr Johnson Injured In Arizona Fall League

Pittsburgh Pirates infield prospect Termarr Johnson (foot) was injured while playing in the Arizona Fall League on Tuesday night and had to be carried off the field while being unable to put any weight on his right foot. Johnson injured his foot swinging through a pitch. It's unclear exactly what the 20-year-old's injury is, but we should have an update on his status soon. Based on how the injury looked on the field, though, it wouldn't be a surprise if Johnson is shut down for the rest of the AFL season this fall. The former fourth overall pick in 2022 hit a combined .237/.367/.386 with a .753 OPS, 15 home runs, 54 RBI and 22 stolen bases in 124 games with High-A Greensboro and Double-A Altoona during the 2024 season. MLB Pipeline has him listed as Pittsburgh's No. 3 prospect. Depending on the severity of his injury, Johnson has a shot to make his MLB debut in 2025.

Termarr Johnson Promoted To Double-A

Pittsburgh Pirates middle-infield prospect Termarr Johnson, the team's No. 3 prospect per MLB Pipeline, was promoted to Double-A Altoona on Sunday, according to a source. The team's first-round pick in 2022 and the No. 83 prospect in all of baseball has posted a .372 on-base percentage with 13 home runs and 20 stolen bases for High-A Greensboro this year to earn the promotion to Double-A. The 20-year-old has split playing time on defense between shortstop and second base this year, but second base is expected to be where he sticks in the long term down the road at the major-league level. Johnson bats from the left side of the plate and is mostly known for his contact skills on offense, but he also has plenty of power potential. It was a good sign that Johnson dropped his high strikeout rate from last year to this year. A big-league promotion could be coming in 2025 if he continues to excel in the minors.

Termarr Johnson Continues Strong July

Pittsburgh Pirates second base prospect Termarr Johnson continued his strong July by launching his fourth home run of the month and 11th of the season on Friday evening. Since July 1, the former fourth-overall selection in the 2022 MLB Draft has posted a .339/.451/.593 line with 10 RBI, two stolen bases, and a 12:15 BB:K ratio. Johnson has continued to improve every month this season, especially after posting a poor .194 and .205 AVG in April and May. The 20-year-old could get a brief taste of Double-A ball later in the summer if he continues this strong play, which might open the door for a potential 2025 major league debut.

Termarr Johnson Goes Deep To Extend Hitting Streak To Eight Games

Pittsburgh Pirates second base prospect Termarr Johnson went 2-for-5 with a home run on Thursday to extend his current hitting streak to eight games. In this span, the top prospect in the Steel City has posted a stellar .382/.488/.500 slash line with six RBI and 13 total hits. Before this stretch, Johnson was riding a poor.185 AVG in his previous seven games. Overall, through his second look at High-A pitching, the former fourth overall pick has lacked consistency with a .237/.392/.378 line with eight home runs, 34 RBI, 14 swiped bags, and a 60:74 BB:K ratio. Johnson is considered the 76th-best prospect in baseball on MLB.com and should reach the majors next summer.

Termarr Johnson Continues To Struggle In May

Pittsburgh Pirates second base prospect Termarr Johnson continues to face early-season struggles in High-A. He's 3-for-29 in May, good for a .103 batting average. Despite the low average, Johnson has still shown tremendous plate discipline. He's drawn 12 walks, resulting in a .395 on-base percentage in May. In addition, he's only struck out six times. A significant contributor to his low batting average is his .130 BABIP. Although Johnson hasn't been making solid contact, he's suffered from exceptionally bad luck so far. At just 19 years old, he has ample time to develop, with his MLB debut not expected until 2025.

Termarr Johnson Struggling Early On

Pittsburgh Pirates second base prospect Termarr Johnson has been off to a slow start over his first 14 games for High-A Greensboro. Johnson, 19, is coming off a strong season between Single-A and High-A in 2023 that saw him hit a combined .244 with 18 homers, 59 RBI and 10 stolen bases in 105 games. So far in 2024, Johnson has struggled to the tune of a .205 batting average with no homers, seven RBI and two stolen bases. Johnson has a keen eye at the plate and follows that up with plenty of power potential. Although second baseman aren't the biggest power hitters, Johnson can be special offensively and should be held onto in dynasty leagues, even though he may be a few seasons away from contributing at the big-league level.

Termarr Johnson Blasts First High-A Homer

Pittsburgh Pirates second base prospect Termarr Johnson hit his first home run at the High-A level in a 1-for-5 showing for High-A Greensboro. The 19-year-old is off to a rough start with Greensboro, slashing .143/.268/.229 with a 24.4% strikeout rate through nine games. He held a tepid .244 batting average with Single-A Bradenton, but he also managed an incredible 21.8% walk rate, .419 OBP, and .448 SLG in 75 games with Bradenton this season. He is far from the majors, but his high offensive ceiling makes him a must-roster in dynasty leagues.

Termarr Johnson Earns Promotion To Single-A

Pittsburgh Pirates second base prospect Termarr Johnson was promoted to High-A Greensboro on Tuesday. Johnson, 19, has improved every month of the season and was on fire during the month of July where he showed plenty of power. Overall, Johnson hit .244 with 13 homers, 44 RBI and seven stolen bases in Single-A. The fourth overall pick in 2022 has begun his professional career hot out of the gate and earned a promotion due to that. His defense still needs sharpening, but his bat has looked strong enough for him to potentially be a fast riser in the Pirates system. With the ability to hit for power at a tough position in terms of fantasy, Johnson should be rostered in dynasty leagues, but managers in redraft leagues shouldn't expect to hear his name for a couple seasons.

Termarr Johnson Continues Hot Month Of July

Pittsburgh Pirates second base prospect Termarr Johnson went 1-for-3 with two walks and a solo home run for Single-A Bradenton. The 19-year-old has been on an absolute tear in July with six homers and 17 RBI to go along with a .311 batting average. He also improved his numbers every month and overall has hit .256 with 13 homers, 43 RBI and five stolen. Johnson has certainly earned a looked in Double-A before the season ends and remains one of the top prospects in the game. His defense is behind his bat, but it's a very valuable bat and he should be universally rostered in dynasty formats with the potential to offer plenty of power at the keystone position.

Termarr Johnson Homers For Fourth Time In Five Games

Pittsburgh Pirates top prospect Termarr Johnson launched his fourth home run in the past five games. The 2022 fourth-overall draft pick is now slashing .250/.416/.462 with 11 home runs across 63 games this season with Single-A Bradenton. At only 19 years old, Johnson has at least a year or two of development ahead before cracking a major-league roster. Still, he already carries 60-grade power and a 70-grade hit tool, and the expectation is that he will navigate the minor leagues faster than the average high school prospect. Fantasy managers in dynasty leagues should already be familiar with Johnson.
