Termarr Johnson Struggling at Double-A

Pittsburgh Pirates infield prospect Termarr Johnson has posted an underwhelming .176/.263/.306 slash line with one double and two stolen bases. During this stretch, he has struck out eight times and drawn three walks. Through 78 total games with Double-A Altoona this season, the former fourth overall pick from the 2022 MLB Draft has held a .247/.329/.3775 slash line with nine doubles, two triples, eight home runs, and 12 stolen bases. Johnson received a brief taste of Double-A at the end of the 2024 campaign and held a similar .229/.316/.396 line with two long balls across 14 games. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor the 21-year-old's progression as he could be in line to earn a similar taste of Triple-A at the end of this season. However, given his modest production, the Pirates may opt to keep him with Double-A to continue his development.

Termarr Johnson Hits Home Run No. 6

Pittsburgh Pirates infield prospect Termarr Johnson went 1-for-3 with a walk, a home run, two RBI, and two runs scored on Sunday for Double-A Altoona. The home run was his sixth of the year but first since May 10, a period of 17 games without one, and ended a 5-for-29 (.172) skid he was on coming into the game. The former fourth-overall draft pick hasn't quite lived up to expectations yet, owning a .241 career batting average in the minors. However, the left-handed hitter is coming off two consecutive double-digit home run, 20-steal seasons, and boasts a 17.9 percent career walk rate in the minors. If he can continue to produce, he should reach Triple-A by season's end, but an MLB debut is looking more like next year at this point.

Termarr Johnson Struggles on Saturday

Pittsburgh Pirates infield prospect Termarr Johnson finished 0-for-4 with a strikeout in a 10-0 loss to Double-A Akron on Saturday. The performance snapped a 12-game on-base streak for the 21-year-old. While Johnson hasn't yet lived up to the immense hype surrounding him when he went fourth overall in the 2022 draft, he has shown encouraging signs this season in his first extended look at the Double-A level with the Altoona Curve. Thanks partly to an impressive 28:24 K:BB, the 5-foot-8, 190-pounder has posted a strong .262/.370/.418 line with five home runs and eight stolen bases in 166 plate appearances. If Johnson continues to log that type of production, he could ascend to Triple-A or even the majors later this year.

Termarr Johnson Tallies Two Hits In Return

Pittsburgh Pirates infield prospect Termarr Johnson (knee) went 2-for-5 with a double during their contest against Double-A Somerset on Monday. Johnson suffered a minor knee injury on Friday. However, this is a great sign as Johnson was only held out of action over the weekend, which suggests the injury was not very serious. Through the first 12 games of the Double-A regular season, Johnson has held a .245/.351/.347 slash line with two doubles and one home run. Johnson has swiped five bags and held an impressive 9:8 K:BB. Last summer, the former fourth overall pick spent most of the campaign with High-A and held a modest .238/.372/.385 before earning a brief taste of Double-A. Fantasy managers should expect Johnson to spend most of the campaign at Double-A before earning a late-season look at Triple-A.

Termarr Johnson Healthy To Start Double-A Season

Pittsburgh Pirates infield prospect Termarr Johnson (foot) has started in two of the first three games of the Double-A regular season. Johnson suffered an injury during the Spring Breakout game in March but has not missed much time early in the campaign. Fantasy managers should expect the team to continue to monitor his workload, especially early in the campaign. Johnson tallied one hit in each contest, including a double on Sunday. He has swiped one bag and held a 1:1 BB:K. The former fourth overall pick of the 2022 MLB Draft spent most of the 2024 campaign with High-A Greensboro and posted a .238/.372/.385 line with 13 home runs. He then earned a brief taste of Double-A, where he tallied 11 hits across his first 14 games. Johnson will likely spend most of the 2025 season with Double-A.

Termarr Johnson Injured In Arizona Fall League

Pittsburgh Pirates infield prospect Termarr Johnson (foot) was injured while playing in the Arizona Fall League on Tuesday night and had to be carried off the field while being unable to put any weight on his right foot. Johnson injured his foot swinging through a pitch. It's unclear exactly what the 20-year-old's injury is, but we should have an update on his status soon. Based on how the injury looked on the field, though, it wouldn't be a surprise if Johnson is shut down for the rest of the AFL season this fall. The former fourth overall pick in 2022 hit a combined .237/.367/.386 with a .753 OPS, 15 home runs, 54 RBI and 22 stolen bases in 124 games with High-A Greensboro and Double-A Altoona during the 2024 season. MLB Pipeline has him listed as Pittsburgh's No. 3 prospect. Depending on the severity of his injury, Johnson has a shot to make his MLB debut in 2025.

Termarr Johnson Promoted To Double-A

Pittsburgh Pirates middle-infield prospect Termarr Johnson, the team's No. 3 prospect per MLB Pipeline, was promoted to Double-A Altoona on Sunday, according to a source. The team's first-round pick in 2022 and the No. 83 prospect in all of baseball has posted a .372 on-base percentage with 13 home runs and 20 stolen bases for High-A Greensboro this year to earn the promotion to Double-A. The 20-year-old has split playing time on defense between shortstop and second base this year, but second base is expected to be where he sticks in the long term down the road at the major-league level. Johnson bats from the left side of the plate and is mostly known for his contact skills on offense, but he also has plenty of power potential. It was a good sign that Johnson dropped his high strikeout rate from last year to this year. A big-league promotion could be coming in 2025 if he continues to excel in the minors.

Termarr Johnson Continues Strong July

Pittsburgh Pirates second base prospect Termarr Johnson continued his strong July by launching his fourth home run of the month and 11th of the season on Friday evening. Since July 1, the former fourth-overall selection in the 2022 MLB Draft has posted a .339/.451/.593 line with 10 RBI, two stolen bases, and a 12:15 BB:K ratio. Johnson has continued to improve every month this season, especially after posting a poor .194 and .205 AVG in April and May. The 20-year-old could get a brief taste of Double-A ball later in the summer if he continues this strong play, which might open the door for a potential 2025 major league debut.

Termarr Johnson Goes Deep To Extend Hitting Streak To Eight Games

Pittsburgh Pirates second base prospect Termarr Johnson went 2-for-5 with a home run on Thursday to extend his current hitting streak to eight games. In this span, the top prospect in the Steel City has posted a stellar .382/.488/.500 slash line with six RBI and 13 total hits. Before this stretch, Johnson was riding a poor.185 AVG in his previous seven games. Overall, through his second look at High-A pitching, the former fourth overall pick has lacked consistency with a .237/.392/.378 line with eight home runs, 34 RBI, 14 swiped bags, and a 60:74 BB:K ratio. Johnson is considered the 76th-best prospect in baseball on MLB.com and should reach the majors next summer.

Termarr Johnson Continues To Struggle In May

Pittsburgh Pirates second base prospect Termarr Johnson continues to face early-season struggles in High-A. He's 3-for-29 in May, good for a .103 batting average. Despite the low average, Johnson has still shown tremendous plate discipline. He's drawn 12 walks, resulting in a .395 on-base percentage in May. In addition, he's only struck out six times. A significant contributor to his low batting average is his .130 BABIP. Although Johnson hasn't been making solid contact, he's suffered from exceptionally bad luck so far. At just 19 years old, he has ample time to develop, with his MLB debut not expected until 2025.
