Thomas Harrington Goes on Injured List at Triple-A

Pittsburgh Pirates pitching prospect Thomas Harrington (undisclosed) has been placed on the Triple-A 7-day injured list with an undisclosed injury. The Pirates' fifth-ranked prospect made a start for Indianapolis on August 8 and left in the fifth inning with the trainer, but no diagnosis has been provided. The former 36th-overall draft pick had put up solid numbers in the minors prior to this year, but has recorded an ugly 5.40 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and a 13.6 percent K-BB% through 19 starts (95 innings pitched) at Triple-A this year. The righty even received three appearances in the majors, one as recently as August 1, but with even less success, allowing 15 earned runs on 18 hits and seven walks while striking out seven in 8 2/3 innings pitched. Hopefully the injury is nothing serious, but he likely won't get a chance in the majors again this season.

Thomas Harrington Recalled from Triple-A

The Pittsburgh Pirates have recalled right-handed pitcher Thomas Harrington from Triple-A Indianapolis before their contest on Friday against the Colorado Rockies. Harrington made his MLB debut earlier this season and appeared in just two games. Through eight innings of work, Harrington allowed nine runs with eleven hits. The No. 4-ranked prospect in the system struck out seven hitters and allowed five walks. He has spent most of the campaign with Triple-A Indianapolis and has struggled to find success there as well, posting a 5.48 ERA and a 1.53 WHIP across 90 1/3 innings of work. During this stint, Harrington has tallied just 84 strikeouts. Fantasy managers should expect him to have a role as a long reliever, which will give him minimal fantasy upside.

Thomas Harrington Fans 10 in Latest Start at Triple-A

Pittsburgh Pirates pitching prospect Thomas Harrington allowed two earned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out 10 batters in six innings of work at Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday. It's the third straight quality start for the 23-year-old, pitching to a 2.50 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and an 18:8 K:BB over 18 IP over that time. With some earlier struggles, including one outing in which he allowed nine earned runs, the righty owns a 5.46 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, and a 12.2 percent K-BB% through 11 starts (56 IP). The Pirates' third-ranked prospect (MLB No. 80) made two starts with the big league club in early April, and while they didn't go well, the 6-foot-2 hurler surely will get another shot at some point this season. Until then, however, he is not worth stashing in season-long leagues.

Thomas Harrington Sent Back To Triple-A

Pittsburgh Pirates pitching prospect Thomas Harrington was optioned to Triple-A on Thursday. The Pirates promoted Harrington on April 1 but were only able to appear in two games during his first brief taste of the major leagues. He was given the starting nod in his first outing on April 1 and allowed seven hits and six earned runs across four innings to the Tampa Bay Rays. In his other appearance, Harrington was deployed out of the bullpen and tossed four innings of three-run ball en route to earning a save. In this game, he held a 1:5 BB:K and allowed four hits. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his production at Triple-A as he should be in the mix to return to the big leagues later in the season, when the Pirates need additional pitching depth. Last season at Triple-A, Harrington posted a 3.33 ERA with a 0.93 WHIP across 46 innings of work.

Thomas Harrington Hit Hard In MLB Debut Tuesday

Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitching prospect Thomas Harrington had a less-than-ideal MLB debut in Tuesday's 7-0 loss to the Rays. Harrington pitched four innings, allowing six runs on seven hits (including a two-run home run) and four walks with two strikeouts. The 23-year-old is the No. 3 prospect in the Pirates' system and is the No. 78 overall prospect, per MLB Pipeline. He was competing for a rotation spot this spring and compiled a strong 2.61 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, and 25.1% strikeout rate across three levels in the minors in 2024. It remains to be seen if Harrington earned another turn in the rotation, as the Pirates have Carmen Mlodzinski on their roster and also have No. 14 overall prospect Bubba Chandler waiting at Triple-A Indianapolis. Even if Harrington does make another start, fantasy managers may want to sit him until they see more promising results.

Thomas Harrington Making MLB Debut On Tuesday

The Pittsburgh Pirates are promoting right-handed pitching prospect Thomas Harrington to the majors to make his MLB debut on Tuesday evening against the Tampa Bay Rays. Harrington was competing for a spot on the Opening Day roster but fell short. However, Harrington did not need to wait long before receiving the call to the big leagues. He is considered to be the 79th best prospect in baseball on MLB.com. In spring training, Harrington tallied seven punchouts and held a 5.59 ERA with a 1.14 WHIP across nine 2/3 innings. Last season, he opened the campaign at Double-A and eventually reached Triple-A. Across 68 1/3 innings with Double-A, Harrington posted a strong 2.24 ERA with a 1.00 WHIP. At Triple-A, the 23-year-old held a 3.33 ERA with a stellar 0.93 WHIP in 46 innings of work. Harrington is worth adding in all 12+ team formats as he could earn a permanent spot in the rotation if he has an impressive MLB debut.

Thomas Harrington Won't Make Opening Day Roster

Pittsburgh Pirates manager Derek Shelton said on Monday that right-handed pitching prospect Thomas Harrington will not be on the team's Opening Day roster. Harrington was an option to open the year as the team's fifth starter with Jared Jones (elbow) injured, but that job will go to right-hander Carmen Mlodzinski early on. Harrington, the Pirates' No. 3 prospect per MLB Pipeline, will begin the 2025 season at Triple-A Indianapolis with Bubba Chandler, the club's top prospect. Going into his final spring outing on Monday, the 23-year-old Harrington had a 2.70 ERA and 0.90 WHIP with five K's and three walks in three Grapefruit League appearances. When Harrington does eventually make his big-league debut (likely this year), he'll be overshadowed by the likes of Paul Skenes and Chandler, but he has excellent command and good stuff and could quickly become relevant in deep-mixed fantasy leagues.

Thomas Harrington Allows One Run On Tuesday

Pittsburgh Pirates right-handed pitching prospect Thomas Harrington tossed 3 2/3 innings of one-run ball during his start on Tuesday. Harrington's lone blemish came off a solo shot by Phillies outfielder Nick Castellanos. Harrington tallied three punchouts and allowed just one free pass. Through 6 2/3 innings this spring, Harrington has held a 2.70 ERA with a strong 0.90 WHIP. Across this stint, he has tallied five strikeouts while serving up three walks. The Campbell University product is still on the major-league roster and is competing for a spot on the Opening Day roster. Last summer, Harrington made his Triple-A debut and posted a 3.33 ERA with a 0.93 WHIP across 46 frames. He tallied 38 strikeouts while allowing just eight free passes. Fantasy managers should continue monitoring his status, as he could make the Opening Day roster.

Thomas Harrington Thriving At Triple-A Indianapolis

Pittsburgh Pirates pitching prospect Thomas Harrington has been sharp since being promoted to Triple-A and was just named International League Pitcher of the Week. In three starts for the Indianapolis Indians, the Pirates' No. 5 prospect is 1-1 with a 3.63 ERA and 0.87 WHIP. He has 11 strikeouts in 17 1/3 innings pitched at Triple-A. In his latest start, Harrington went seven scoreless, allowing just two hits with no walks and two strikeouts. The 23-year-old right-hander features plus pitches with his fastball, slider, and changeup and is known for having good command of his arsenal. He has adjusted nicely to Triple-A and could be looking at a big-league debut by next season.

Thomas Harrington Sharp At Double-A In First Half

Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitching prospect Thomas Harrington has performed very well at Double-A through the first half of the season. Across 56 innings, the 2022 draft pick holds a strong 2.54 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and a near-perfect 8:59 BB:K ratio. This is a significant improvement when comparing this production to his 3.87 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and 29:106 BB:K ratio he held across 88 innings at High-A last summer. In his most recent start on July 10, the right-hander tallied a season-high 11 punchouts across seven innings of one-run ball. The Campbell University product is a name to keep a close eye on, as he could earn a promotion to Triple-A later this summer.
