Trevor Story Opts in for Remaining Two Years on his Contract

Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story has opted into the remaining two years and $50 million left on his deal with the team, a source told Chris Cotillo of Mass Live on Tuesday. Story will make $25 million in each of the next two seasons and has a $25 million club option for 2028 that includes a $5 million buyout. The 32-year-old two-time All-Star had his best year in Boston in his fourth year with the team in 2025, slashing .263/.308/.433 with a .741 OPS, 25 home runs, 96 RBI, 91 runs scored, and a career-high 31 stolen bases in 157 games played and 654 plate appearances. It was the first time in his four years in Beantown that he managed to stay healthy, which resulted in his best season since his final year in Colorado in 2021. He might have had the opportunity to make more on the open market, but he chose security with the BoSox. Expecting another strong season like the one he just had is probably foolish, given his age and lengthy injury history.

Trevor Story Blasts Home Run No. 24

Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story continued his strong second half of the season with another two-hit game in his team's series opener in Sacramento. He hit his 24th homer of the year in the first inning to get the scoring started and added a double and another run scored later in the game to finish 2-for-4 with two runs scored, an RBI, and six total bases. Story started the season slowly but has picked things up in his latest chapters. He's hitting .315 with 11 doubles, nine homers, and 10 stolen bases since the end of July and has a .406 wOBA and 45.2% hard-hit rate over his last 37 games. He's moved to the heart of the order for the Sox and will continue to be a key contributor down the stretch. The veteran has an opt-out of his contract after the season, which will be a fascinating factor to watch in the upcoming offseason.

Trevor Story Leads Offensive Outburst in Win

Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story was the leader of an offensive outburst in an 11-2 blowout of the Washington Nationals on Friday. Story finished 4-for-5 with a homer, four RBI, three runs scored, and a stolen base in his fourth multi-hit game since last Saturday. While Story was the owner of a dreadful .585 OPS at the end of May, the 32-year-old has enjoyed a significant turnaround over the past month-plus. In 29 games since June 1, Story has hit .324 (36-for-111) with six homers, 27 RBI, and 19 runs scored. He's still slashing an underwhelming .252/.293/.404 in 349 plate appearances, but the two-time All-Star has amassed 13 HRs, 51 RB1, 42 runs, and 14 steals. Story looks likely to post his first 20/20 season since 2021.

Trevor Story has Three Hits, Drives in Five

Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story had his fourth three-hit game of the season in the team's 10-7 win over the division-rival New York Yankees in the Bronx on Saturday. Story went 3-for-5 in the contest with a double, run scored and a season-high five RBI out of the seven-hole in the batting order. It was nice to see from the 32-year-old veteran shortstop in what hasn't been a very productive season to this point at the plate. The two-time All-Star and two-time Silver Slugger came into Saturday's game with just a .217 average (50-for-230) with seven home runs, 26 RBI, 25 runs scored and nine stolen bases in 60 games played. Story has 77 strikeouts and only 12 walks in 246 trips to the plate and is swinging and missing far too often. He's been hitting the ball hard when he does make contact, but he's not lifting the ball like he did back in his heyday.

Trevor Story Sitting Against Twins

Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story will take a seat on the bench for Sunday's series finale at Fenway Park against the visiting Minnesota Twins. With Story sitting, David Hamilton will start at shortstop and bat seventh against Twins right-hander Chris Paddack. It will be Story's first game sitting since April 20. The 32-year-old veteran has tailed off a bit offensively of late, going 9-for-50 in the last 12 games. The former first-rounder by the Colorado Rockies in 2011 is now hitting .267/.308/.393 on the season with a .700 OPS, five home runs, 16 RBI, 16 runs scored and seven stolen bases. As long as he stays healthy, which is a big if, Story should be a decent middle-infield contributor in deep-mixed fantasy leagues. Hamilton represents a low-upside DFS sleeper near the bottom of the lineup without much power. He's gone 7-for-41 (.171) in a bench role in 2025 with a homer, three RBI and five stolen bases.

Trevor Story Mashes Pair Of Three-Run Homers

Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story had a monster day at the dish on Friday, going 3-for-4 with a pair of homers, three runs scored, and six RBI. He started his day with a three-run bomb in the first inning, and then put a capper on it with another three-run shot in the seventh. Don't look now, but Story has a very impressive .321 AVG and .876 OPS to go along with 10 runs, five homers, 14 RBI, and six swipes. Fantasy managers have gotten all they could ask for and more from the late-round pick, and if he can stay healthy he should be a steal this season. He should be owned and started in all leagues at this point.

Trevor Story Homers In Three-Hit Day

Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story carried the offense on Sunday, going 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, and three RBI in a 3-1 win over the White Sox. It was his third home run of the season, and he's now slashing .308/.328/.477 on the year. He's also shown great success on the base paths, collecting six steals thus far. He's struggled to stay healthy over the past few years, but he clearly still has that 20-20 upside that made him an elite shortstop for all those years in Colorado. He's worth an add in fantasy leagues as a solid middle infield option.

Trevor Story Picks Up Two Hits, Two Steals In Walk-Off Win Over Blue Jays

Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story went 2-for-5 with two singles, an RBI and two stolen bases in the team's 4-3 walk-off win against the division-rival Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday at Fenway Park, but it was his squibber off the end of the bat to second base with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th inning that ended up being the difference. Toronto second baseman Andres Gimenez bobbled the exchange to get the force out at home plate, allowing the winning run to score for the Red Sox. The 32-year-old Story is now hitting .264 on the season with a below-average .687 OPS in 14 games played, but he has turned it around since picking up only two hits in his first 15 at-bats. The two-time All-Star is trying to fend off shortstop prospect Marcelo Mayer this year and hasn't played in over 100 games since 2021 due to injuries. Story's high strikeout rate will continue to be a problem if he can stay healthy.

Trevor Story Homers In Wednesday's Win

Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story turned in a big game in a 3-0 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday. Story went 3-for-4 with a solo homer to help power Boston to the victory over their division rivals. The veteran shortstop took Baltimore starter Zach Eflin deep in the second inning on a blast that traveled 394 feet with an exit velocity of 102.2 MPH. Story has been off to a slow start this season as he had just two hits coming into the game. He will hope his three-hit performance on Wednesday jump-starts his bat going forward.

Trevor Story Sitting On Sunday

Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story is not in the starting lineup on Sunday when the Red Sox conclude a series against the Texas Rangers. Story has started each of the past three contests at shortstop. At the plate, Story went 1-for-11 with two runs, two stolen bases, and a 1:3 BB:K. As a result, David Hamilton will cover shortstop and bat eighth against Texas right-hander Jacob deGrom. Fantasy managers should expect Story to return to the starting nine on Monday when the team travels to Camden Yards to face the Baltimore Orioles. Story has battled numerous injuries over the past few seasons, but has performed well through the start of the season. He is a viable depth middle infielder in category formats, given his ability to steal bases and hit for power.
