Zach Neto Powers Angels to Victory With Two Homers

Los Angeles Angels shortstop Zach Neto set the tone for the struggling Angels on Friday night in Anaheim in their 9-6 victory over the division-rival Texas Rangers. Neto went 2-for-4 at the plate out of the leadoff spot with two solo home runs and a hit-by-pitch to raise his season average to .221 and his OPS to .757. The 25-year-old got the offense going in the bottom of the first inning with a solo shot off veteran right-hander Jacob deGrom. He is hitting just .200 (15-for-75) in 20 games (89 plate appearances) since the beginning of May, but he has added five home runs, two doubles, a triple, nine RBI, 13 runs scored, and two stolen bases over that span as well. Since May 13, Neto has gone 8-for-33 (.242) with four long balls, a double, six RBI, and six runs scored for the Halos. Neto has a weak .213 xBA and a .327 xwOBA, and he's also in just the 38th percentile in hard-hit rate for the season. He's still well on pace for his third straight 20-homer season, but Neto needs to make better and more consistent contact -- he currently leads the league with 73 strikeouts in 239 plate appearances.

Should Fantasy Managers be Buying Low on Zach Neto?

Los Angeles Angels shortstop Zach Neto came close to a 30-30 campaign in each of his first two seasons in Anaheim in 2024 and 2025, which makes his start to 2026 that much more disappointing. He is currently slashing .216/.322/.386 with a .708 OPS, six home runs, 18 RBI, seven stolen bases, and 28 runs scored across a league-high 199 plate appearances over 43 games. Neto has hit .167 (7-for-42) in May, but he just snapped a six-game hitting streak with an 0-for-4 showing in Tuesday night's loss to the Cleveland Guardians. During his six-game hitting streak, Neto went 7-for-24 (.292) with a homer, double, triple, three RBI, and five runs scored for the Halos. Still, there are some reasons to be concerned that Neto won't live up to the lofty expectations that he came into the season with. He currently sits in the 42nd percentile in xwOBA, the 32nd percentile in hard-hit rate, the 42nd percentile in expected slugging percentage, and just the eighth percentile in strikeout rate. Outside of the stolen base department, Neto has been a big disappointment so far in 2026 at the SS position.

Zach Neto Showcasing Improved Walk Rate to Start 2026

Across his first 90 plate appearances of the 2026 season, Los Angeles Angels shortstop Zach Neto is hitting .240/.367/.493 with five home runs, nine RBI, 17 runs scored, and one stolen base. The 25-year-old has not been especially aggressive on the base paths so far this season, but Neto has a track record as a speed asset with 56 stolen bases over the past two seasons combined. Elsewhere in his profile, Neto looks to be on track to provide strong fantasy production. His 12% barrel rate supports his strong power output, and his 15.6% walk rate at the top of the Angels lineup should allow him to continue racking up runs scored. While Neto's 27.8% strikeout rate limits his batting average upside, he makes enough hard contact to avoid crushing fantasy managers in the category. As long as he stays healthy, Neto appears poised to be a high-end fantasy shortstop in 2026.

Zach Neto Fine After Leaving Friday's Game

Los Angeles Angels shortstop Zach Neto (undisclosed) left Friday's Cactus League game against the Chicago White Sox after being hit by a pitch, but he's fine, according to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com. Neto was hit by a pitch in the first inning and stayed in to run the bases before being replaced with a pinch-hitter his next time up. The 25-year-old also suffered a wrist sprain last weekend, which kept him out for a few days. Neto is fully expected to be ready for Opening Day next week as he looks to continue to establish himself as one of the best shortstops in the game. In his third major-league season with the Halos last year, Neto turned in a .257/.319/.474 slash line with career-highs in OPS (.793), home runs (26), and runs scored (82) in 128 games played. It was his second straight 20-20 season for fantasy managers after hitting 23 homers and stealing 30 bases in 2024. Neto is the real deal and is RotoBaller's No. 5-ranked fantasy shortstop.

Zach Neto Making his Return on Tuesday

Updating a previous report, Los Angeles Angels shortstop Zach Neto (wrist) is returning to the starting lineup in the Cactus League game on Tuesday against the Chicago Cubs, according to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com. Neto sprained his left wrist while sliding into home in a spring training game over the weekend, but fortunately, it wasn't a serious injury. The Angels announced on Tuesday morning that they'd push his return back to Wednesday, but they have reversed course and will have him play on Tuesday against Chicago. As long as Neto doesn't have a setback with his wrist in his return to game action on Tuesday, he'll be ready to roll for Opening Day against the division-rival Houston Astros on the road on March 26. For fantasy baseball purposes, Neto is ranked as the No. 5 player at shortstop at RotoBaller because of his power/speed upside. The former first-rounder (13th overall) in 2022 out of Campbell University had his second career 20-20 season in 2025 and is certainly capable of hitting 30 homers and stealing 30 bases.

Zach Neto to Return on Wednesday

Los Angeles Angels shortstop Zach Neto (wrist) did some defensive drills, hit off a tee, and then took batting practice on the field in camp on Monday with no apparent issues, according to Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register. Neto was planning to return to a minor-league game on the back fields on Tuesday, but the Angels have decided to have him wait a day. Instead, Neto is expected to play in a big-league game on Wednesday. It looked like Neto suffered a serious left-wrist injury on a head-first slide in a Cactus League game on Saturday, but he appears to have dodged a bullet and should be ready for Opening Day at the end of the month, barring a setback once he returns to game action. The 25-year-old is one of the rising stars at the shortstop position and is ranked by RotoBaller as the No. 5 fantasy shortstop after he clubbed a career-high 26 home runs and drove in 62 runs with 26 stolen bases in 554 plate appearances in 2025 in his second full season in the big leagues.

Zach Neto Expected to Return to Game Action on Tuesday

Los Angeles Angels shortstop Zach Neto (wrist) will return to game action on Tuesday, according to Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register. It could either be a minor league game or the Angels' Cactus League game against the Cubs. Regardless of which it is, it appears his return from a sprained left wrist is nearly complete, which still puts him on track to be ready for Opening Day. The former first-round draft pick is coming off a strong 2025 campaign in which he produced a .257-26-62-82-26 stat line with a .337 wOBA and 116 wRC+ in 128 games. The 25-year-old is poised for another fantasy-friendly season, currently ranking as the fifth shortstop for fantasy at RotoBaller and No. 29 overall, which is right around his current ADP.

Zach Neto to Take Batting Practice on Monday

Los Angeles Angels shortstop Zach Neto (wrist) hit some balls off a tee in camp on Monday and said he's going to take batting practice on the field later, according to Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register. Neto said "he's feeling good." The 25-year-old suffered a small sprain of his left wrist on a head-first slide in Cactus League action on Saturday and expects to miss just a few days. It's something to watch with Opening Day less than two weeks away, but for now, it looks like Neto dodged a bullet and should be ready for the start of the 2026 regular season at the end of the month. The former first-rounder (13th overall) in 2022 out of Campbell University has hit .241 (7-for-29) with a homer, five RBI, four runs scored, and two stolen bases in 12 spring training games this year. In his first two full major-league seasons, Neto has slashed .253/.318/.458 with a .776 OPS, 49 home runs, 139 RBI, 152 runs, and 56 stolen bases in 283 games. He's RotoBaller's No. 5-ranked fantasy shortstop heading into his third full MLB season.

Zach Neto's Tests Come Back Negative, Dealing With Sprained Hand

Los Angeles Angels shortstop Zach Neto (hand) has been diagnosed with a small sprain in his left hand, according to Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register. Fletcher reports that tests came back negative on Neto's hand, which means he avoided a fracture, and he expects to return to the Halos' lineup within a few days. All in all, this is good news for the Angels and Neto, as it appears the 25-year-old infielder avoided a serious injury. He should be good to go for Opening Day, which is less than two weeks away. Having Neto healthy is pivotal for the Angels and fantasy managers, as he was a prime contributor last year with a .257/.319/.474 slash line, 26 home runs, and 116 wRC+. He currently ranks #4 among shortstops in RotoBaller's latest fantasy baseball rankings for the 2026 season.

Zach Neto is Removed After Suffering Hand Injury

Los Angeles Angels shortstop Zach Neto (hand) was removed from Saturday's Cactus League matchup against the Seattle Mariners. Neto was pulled out of the game in the seventh inning due to a hand injury he suffered while sliding at home plate. Angels' manager Kurt Suzuki said Neto will undergo further testing to determine the severity of the injury. This could be a significant blow to fantasy managers if Neto lands on the injured list to start the season. Neto is a clear top-10 fantasy shortstop heading into 2026, so hopefully it's only a day-to-day type of issue. Fantasy managers will need to check back for another update after the testing is done.
