Twins
Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Zebby Matthews picked up his first victory in his big-league debut on Tuesday versus the Kansas City Royals. The rookie tossed five innings and allowed five hits, two runs, zero walks and struck out five. Overall, a solid performance for Matthews, who has rocketed up through the Twins system this season. The 24-year-old has had incredible command on the farm this system, walking just seven batters in 97 innings between High-A and Triple-A and if that can continue, he could be a good piece for managers down the stretch. Matthews figures to remain in the rotation with Joe Ryan (shoulder) sidelined and is worth consideration in deeper mixed leagues. Next up will be a date on the road against the Texas Rangers.

Zebby Matthews Making MLB Debut Against Royals
Minnesota Twins right-handed pitching prospect Zebby Matthews was officially recalled from Triple-A St. Paul and will make his major-league debut in a start on Tuesday against the visiting division-rival Kansas City Royals. The Twins' No. 6 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, has an opportunity to stick around in Minnesota's starting rotation for a bit if he pitches well, with both Joe Ryan (shoulder) and Chris Paddack (forearm) on the injured list. The 24-year-old stands at 6-foot-5, 225 pounds and comes with plenty of swing-and-miss stuff. The former eighth-rounder in 2022 out of Western Carolina dominated at Double-A Wichita this year before posting a 5.68 ERA and 1.32 WHIP in four starts for St. Paul. Matthews fanned 114 with just seven walks at three minor-league levels, though. His first MLB matchup against KC isn't ideal, but Matthews could be worth a look as a deep-league streamer if he sticks around in the Twins' rotation.

Twins Calling Up Zebby Matthews
The Minnesota Twins are calling up pitching prospect Zebby Matthews, ESPN's Jeff Passan reports. Matthews, the No. 6 prospect in the Minnesota system, is 6-3 this season across three levels of the minors with a 2.60 ERA and 0.87 WHIP. The 24-year-old right-hander rapidly rose through the minors this year and will now get his big-league debut. He has a 55-grade fastball and cutter in his pitch mix and boasts 65-grade control. He has elite command with 114 strikeouts and just seven walks in 97 innings this season. He is an intriguing waiver-wire option in all leagues but it might be worth seeing how he performs in his debut.

Zebby Matthews Promoted To Triple-A
The Minnesota Twins promoted right-handed pitching prospect Zebby Matthews to Triple-A St. Paul on Tuesday. Matthews has risen quickly through the team's minor-league system, going all the way from High-A Cedar Rapids with his stuff continuing to play up without sacrificing his impeccable control (91 strikeouts and only six walks in 78 innings pitched). The 24-year-old was drafted in the ninth round in 2022 out of Western Carolina University and is now on the doorstep of his MLB debut. The club's No. 19 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, posted a sparkling 1.95 ERA and 0.76 WHIP with 63 punchouts and six walks in 55 1/3 innings over 10 outings (nine starts) at Double-A Wichita to receive his latest promotion. The 6-foot-5, 225-pounder's stuff doesn't really stand out on its own, although his cutter may be his best offering. Matthews' command is exceptional, but he has a limited ceiling at the big-league level.

Zebby Matthews Allows Two Walks For The First Time In 2024
Through his first 13 starts of the 2024 season (75 innings), Minnesota Twins starting pitching prospect Zebby Matthews had allowed just four walks. However, in his most recent start, he walked two batters in just three innings of work. He also allowed two hits and a run, striking out four. Most young pitchers consider two-walk starts an accomplishment. But for Matthews, who's shown otherworldly control between High-A Cedar Rapids and Double-A Wichita, this was a surprise. Overall, the Twins' No. 19 prospect (per MLB.com) has a 1.85 ERA, 0.76 WHIP, and 91:6 K/BB. With such an impressive season, he could make his MLB debut this year.

Zebby Matthews Issues First Walk Of Season
Minnesota Twins pitching prospect Zebby Matthews' streak of not allowing a walk came to an end on Wednesday evening in Double-A Wichita's loss. Matthews still had a beautiful night on the mound in six innings and allowed three hits, two runs (one earned), one walk and eight strikeouts in the no-decision. The big moment of the night came in the fifth inning, when Matthews issued his first walk of the season. Before issuing his walk, Matthews had struck out 49 batters on the season. Only closer Kenley Jansen in 2017 and Corbin Burnes in 2021 had longer streaks since 1893. It has been an impressive year for the Twins' No. 20 prospect, as he also owns a miniscule 1.02 ERA for Wichita. Matthews has shown unbelievable control but still needs to fine tune his pitch mix before making another jump. Matthews is unlikely to reach the big leagues in 2024, but he could be an option in 2025.

Zebby Matthews Shines In Double-A Debut
Minnesota Twins starting pitching prospect Zebby Matthews made his Double-A debut on Thursday and tossed 6 2/3 innings of two-run ball (zero earned runs). He allowed just three hits and matched a season-high of nine strikeouts. After posting a dominant 1.59 ERA and 0.75 WHIP through 22 2/3 innings at High-A to open the season, the 23-year-old was moved up to Double-A and has yet to slow down. The 20th-ranked prospect in the Minnesota pipeline is not projected to reach the major leagues until 2025 but could be worth adding in dynasty leagues if he continues to silence Double-A bats.
