Bailey Ober Officially Activated and Starting on Thursday

The Minnesota Twins officially announced that they reinstated right-hander Bailey Ober (elbow) from the 15-day injured list and placed left-hander Connor Prielipp (finger) on the 15-day IL with a left middle-finger blister in a corresponding move. Ober will return to the starting rotation on Thursday to face the division-rival Cleveland Guardians at Target Field. He has recovered from a right flexor strain in his elbow that put him on the IL on May 30. The 30-year-old veteran is returning to a 6-3 record, 4.59 ERA (4.98 FIP) and 1.21 WHIP with 46 strikeouts and 18 walks in 66 2/3 innings across his 12 starts in his sixth year in the big leagues. The Guardians make for a pretty good matchup with an OPS (.677) that ranks 29th in baseball this season, but the soft-tossing Ober still won't be a recommended streamer in his first start back with the Twins. He had a 5.97 ERA (6.08 FIP) with 17 strikeouts and five walks in 28 2/3 frames in his five starts in May and has a career-low 16.4% strikeout rate so far in 2026.

Bailey Ober Expected to be Activated and Start on Thursday

The Athletic's Dan Hayes reports that it sounds as if right-hander Bailey Ober (elbow) will be activated from the 15-day injured list to start on Thursday against the division-rival Cleveland Guardians. It will be Ober's first start for the Twins since going on the IL in late May with a right flexor strain in his elbow. In his two minor-league rehab starts on the farm, Ober gave up seven runs with six strikeouts and no walks in 8 1/3 total innings. He got up to 76 pitches in his final rehab outing, so he shouldn't be faced with a pitch-count limit in his return to Minnesota's starting rotation this week. The 30-year-old veteran lacks considerable fantasy upside because of his decreased velocity and career 23.2% strikeout rate. In his 66 2/3 innings pitched with the Twins in 2026, Ober has a career-low 16.4% strikeout rate while going 6-3 with a 4.59 ERA (4.98 FIP), 1.21 WHIP, and 46:18 K:BB in 12 starts. In five starts in May, Ober went 3-2 with a rough 5.97 ERA (6.08 FIP), 17 strikeouts, and five walks in 28 2/3 innings. Nobody should be in a rush to scoop him up off the waiver wire or start him on Thursday against Cleveland.

Bailey Ober Allows Four Runs in Five Innings in Rehab Start

Minnesota Twins right-hander Bailey Ober (elbow) made his second minor-league rehab start on Saturday with Triple-A St. Paul and allowed four earned runs on six hits while walking none and striking out five in five innings of work against Triple-A Buffalo. The 30-year-old veteran threw 3 1/3 innings with High-A Cedar Rapids in his first rehab start on June 28 as he works his way back from a right-elbow injury. Ober's elbow felt fine after the outing, and he was able to throw 50 of his 76 pitches with the Saints for strikes. It's unclear what his next step is, but the Twins may reinstate him from the 15-day injured list so that he can start this weekend in an excellent matchup against the Los Angeles Angels. The soft-tossing right-hander doesn't have a very high fantasy ceiling because he doesn't induce many swings and misses, especially with a drop in velocity, but he can still be useful as a fantasy streamer in the right matchups. Before going on the IL, Ober was 6-3 for the Twins this year with a 4.59 ERA (4.97 FIP) and 1.21 WHIP with 46 strikeouts and 18 walks in 66 2/3 innings across his 12 starts. Ober has excellent command of the strike zone, but his strikeout rate in 2026 is down to a career-low 16.4%.

Bailey Ober to Throw Another Bullpen on Tuesday

Minnesota Twins right-hander Bailey Ober (elbow) threw a 25-pitch bullpen session on Saturday and is scheduled to throw another bullpen on Tuesday, according to Theodore Tollefson. Ober's bullpen over the weekend was his first time throwing off the mound since he landed on the 15-day injured list on May 31 with a mild flexor strain in his right elbow. He's making progress, but we won't have a better read on when he might be able to rejoin Minnesota's starting rotation until he faces live hitters. It's unclear if Ober will need to go on a minor-league rehab assignment before returning. If the 30-year-old veteran only needs one rehab start in the minors, he will have a shot to return to the big leagues before the All-Star break next month. The former 12th-rounder in 2017 out of the College of Charleston has gone 6-3 this year with a 4.59 ERA (4.96 FIP) and 1.21 WHIP with 46 strikeouts and 18 walks in 66 2/3 frames across 12 starts. Ober isn't a hard thrower and has a career-low 16.4% strikeout rate so far in 2026, so his fantasy ceiling remains limited. He's currently rostered in under 20% of Yahoo leagues while he rehabs.

Bailey Ober Expects to Throw Off a Mound This Weekend

Minnesota Twins right-hander Bailey Ober (elbow) thinks he will throw off a mound this weekend in Arizona, according to The Athletic's Dan Hayes. It would be the first time that Ober has set foot on a mound since he was placed on the 15-day injured list in early June with a flexor strain in his right elbow. Ober could need a couple of bullpen sessions before being cleared for a short minor-league rehab assignment, so he could have time to rejoin the Twins' starting rotation before the All-Star break in mid-July, barring a setback. The 30-year-old veteran won't be a priority addition off the waiver wire for fantasy managers in mixed leagues, though, after he posted a 4.59 ERA (4.96 FIP) and 1.21 WHIP with 46 strikeouts and 18 walks in 66 2/3 innings pitched across his 12 starts before landing on the shelf. Ober still has above-average command, but with a drop in velocity this year and a career-low 16.4% strikeout rate, his fantasy upside has diminished as a starting option. While on the IL, Ober is rostered in only 18% of Yahoo leagues.

Bailey Ober Avoids UCL Damage, Diagnosed with Mild Flexor Strain

Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Bailey Ober (elbow) has been diagnosed with a mild flexor strain and will be shut down for 10-14 days. On the bright side, his "UCL is intact," per Dan Hayes of The Athletic. Ober was placed on the 15-day injured list on Sunday due to elbow inflammation, but appears to have avoided the worst-case scenario. Still, it will be at least mid-June before he resumes throwing, making a return to the Twins rotation this month unlikely. Before getting injured, Ober posted a 6-3 record with a 4.59 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and 46 strikeouts across 66 2/3 innings (12 starts). The 30-year-old's average fastball velocity had dipped to a career-worst 89.1 miles per hour, which may have been a symptom of his elbow discomfort. Twins right-hander Mike Paredes was recalled to take Ober's place on the active roster and could be in line to take his place in the Minnesota rotation as well.

Bailey Ober Placed on 15-Day Injured List Due to Elbow Inflammation

Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Bailey Ober (elbow) has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to right elbow inflammation. It's a tough break for Ober, who gave up seven earned runs across 4 2/3 innings of work in his start on Saturday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Across 66 2/3 innings (12 starts) overall this season, Ober has recorded a 6-3 record with a 4.59 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and 46 strikeouts. While the 30-year-old owns a strong 6.4% walk rate, his average fastball velocity is down to 89.3 miles per hour, and he's struck out just 16.4% of the batters he's faced in 2026. The long ball continues to be a major issue for Ober, as he owns a 1.62 HR/9 after allowing a 1.85 HR/9 in 2025. The Twins recalled right-handed pitching prospect Mike Paredes on Sunday to take Ober's place on the active roster and possibly, his place in the starting rotation.

Bailey Ober Picks Up Second Straight Win, Worth a Look on Waivers

Minnesota Twins right-hander Bailey Ober wasn't nearly as good on Sunday against the Milwaukee Brewers as he was his last time out on May 12, when he threw a complete-game shutout with only two hits allowed and seven strikeouts against the Miami Marlins. Ober didn't even have a quality start on Sunday in the team's 5-4 win, but he did earn his fifth win of the year by limiting the Brewers to three earned runs on six hits (two homers) while walking two and striking out one. The damage that the 30-year-old allowed came on long balls to outfielders Garrett Mitchell and Christian Yelich. Ober doesn't throw hard and has limited long-term fantasy upside because of his lack of swing-and-miss stuff, but you can't ignore the fact that he's given up two runs or less in four of his last six appearances for the Twins. Overall, he's 5-2 with a 3.63 ERA and 1.07 WHIP with just 40 punchouts in 57 innings across his 10 starts. Ober is worth a look on the waiver wire -- he's rostered in just under 50% of Yahoo leagues -- and will be a streaming option in his next outing against a Boston Red Sox team that ranks second-to-last in OPS (.666).

Bailey Ober Bounces Back With Complete-Game Shutout Over Marlins

Minnesota Twins right-hander Bailey Ober went the distance in a marvelous performance on Tuesday night in a 3-0 shutout win over the visiting Miami Marlins. Ober went all nine innings to win his fourth game of the season, allowing only two hits, walking none, and striking out seven batters. It was quite the bounce-back performance from the soft-tossing right-hander after he gave up a season-high five earned runs in five innings in a loss to the Washington Nationals his last time on the bump. His efficient and dominant outing on Tuesday now has the 30-year-old at 4-2 on the year with a 3.46 ERA (3.85 FIP) and 1.02 WHIP with 39 strikeouts and 15 walks in 52 innings of work over his nine starts. Ober needed just 89 pitches to finish off the complete-game shutout, and he retired the last 16 batters he faced against a Miami squad that was overly aggressive, leading to lots of quick innings. It was Ober's third complete game of his career. So far, Ober has done a fine job of reinventing himself in 2026 with a drop in velocity.

Bailey Ober's Velocity Continues to Tumble

Minnesota Twins right-hander Bailey Ober's average fastball velocity was down even more in his Grapefruit League start on Tuesday against the Philadelphia Phillies, according to Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic. Ober averaged 89.9 mph in his first spring training start, then 88.8 mph in his second start, and now he's down to 88.2 mph. None of the 58 pitches that Ober threw on Tuesday cracked 90 mph, and he also failed to record a strikeout and generated just three swings and misses. The 30-year-old veteran only has three strikeouts in 8 2/3 innings pitched so far this spring, and his low velocity is a concerning trend that fantasy managers must pay attention to. In 2025, Ober barely averaged over 90 mph on his fastball and career-worst 5.10 ERA and 1.29 WHIP with 120 strikeouts and 31 walks in 146 1/3 innings over 27 starts. Ober missed some time with a hip injury in the second half, which could have contributed to him falling apart after a decent start. He's trending down ahead of the 2026 season and is currently ranked as RotoBaller's No. 97 starting pitcher in fantasy.
