Dean Kremer News
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Dean Kremer was sharp during Thursday's 4-0 win over the White Sox by allowing zero runs over 5 2/3 IP for his second win of the year. The right-hander allowed seven hits and one walk while striking out four in the 93-pitch effort to give him a 1.71 ERA and 1.24 WHIP through four starts this season. Kremer has had a good run since getting called up at the beginning of June, but his 4.76 xFIP suggests he's had a bit of luck in this small sample. He's also not missing many bats with 14 K through 21 IP, but he remains a player to keep an eye on with an upcoming road matchup versus the Mariners.
The Baltimore Orioles reinstated right-hander Dean Kremer (oblique) from the 10-day injured list on Sunday and optioned right-hander Denyi Reyes to Triple-A Norfolk in a corresponding move. Kremer will make his first start of the season against the Cleveland Guardians on Sunday. The 26-year-old was lights-out on his minor league rehab assignment, throwing nine scoreless innings while striking out 18 and walking two in three outings. Kremer wasn't very good in his second major league season last year for the O's, going 0-7 with a 7.55 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 47:25 K:BB in 53 2/3 innings over 13 starts, so fantasy managers may want to take a wait-and-see approach with him in deeper leagues.
Baltimore Orioles right-handed pitcher Dean Kremer (oblique) has been on the shelf for the entirety of the 2022 season thus far due to a left oblique strain. However, he is nearing his return to the majors as he's been ramping things up in his minor league rehab outings the past few weeks. Over three starts spread across Double-A and Triple-A, he's pitched nine innings and hasn't allowed a run while recording 18 strikeouts and walking just two batters. Orioles manager Brandon Hyde was asked on Monday about what role Kremer would have upon his return and Hyde said that Kremer "would be an option down the road" for the team's starting rotation.

Kremer entered the 2020 season as a little-known prospect who has spent a fair bit of time on Top 30 prospect lists but was rarely seen within the Top 10. We're one of the few prospect analysts who ranked him as a Top 10 prospect but also keep in mind that Baltimore does not have a strong system. This young hurler has solid stuff with a four-seam fastball that can tickle the mid-90s and a curveball that has shown plus potential. Kremer made four MLB starts during his debut season in 2020 and threw five different pitches including three types of fastballs. Of those five offerings, only the sinker allowed a batting average higher than .222. When things were going well, he was fairly hard to hit. But both his command and control let him down. When his pitches caught too much of the strike zone, he was hit with authority. Nine of his 15 hits went for extra bases and he allowed a Hard Hit rate of 47%. The good news is that Kremer has shown average control in the minors. He'll open the 2021 season on a club that isn't expected to win many games but Kremer could be a cheap source of strikeouts who doesn't allow many home runs.
