Antonio Gibson News
Washington Commanders running back Antonio Gibson (hamstring) has a slightly pulled hamstring and will sit out of practice on Wednesday, while wide receiver Curtis Samuel will also take a seat after coming in a little sore on Wednesday, according to head coach Ron Rivera. The Commanders are being smart with both players, and Rivera said he's looking forward to seeing Samuel in minicamp next week. Rookie running back Brian Robinson Jr. will see some more repetitions with Gibson sidelined. Gibson should be the team's primary back in 2022, but sharing work with J.D. McKissic and Robinson will make him more of a high-end RB2 target in fantasy. Samuel's years was washed away by injuries last year, but he could be a nice low-cost bounce-back target near the end of drafts.
Washington Commanders running back Antonio Gibson had a productive 2021 season. He ran for over 1,000 yards while totaling 10 touchdowns. He also had a career-high 42 catches for 294 yards. However, head coach Ron Rivera recently stated that the team would utilize a committee approach out of the backfield during the 2022-23 campaign, meaning J.D. McKissic, Jaret Patterson, and rookie Brian Robinson Jr. will get some snaps. While Gibson still figures to be Washington's primary runner, his competition for touches could severely lessen his fantasy impact.
The Washington Commanders envision running backs Antonio Gibson and rookie Brian Robinson Jr. leading their backfield this year. Robinson will provide a little more power and short-yardage success while also helping to keep Gibson fresher over the full season. There's also J.D. McKissic, who has 123 catches over the last two seasons. Gibson rushed for 1,037 in 2021, sixth-most in the NFL, and he showed more patience. Gibson's touches should remain high -- he ranked fourth in the league with 300 last year -- but his weekly usage could vary more with Robinson and McKissic firmly in the mix. "If the game's going to get physical and you have to really grind it out, you want to mix in with somebody else," Rivera said. "They may not get 20 carries, but just to change up the physicality."

Gibson dealt with toe and hip injuries in 2021 that not only affected his playing time, but his production as well. As a rookie, he averaged 4.68 yards per carry on 12 carries per game. Last season, that number dipped to just 4.02 yards per carry on...
