CJ Daniels Enjoys Another Big Game as Receiver Room Gets More Crowded

Los Angeles Rams wide receiver CJ Daniels caught five of his six targets for 42 yards during Thursday's preseason finale against the Los Angeles Chargers. The Rams' receiver room is a fluid situation right now, mostly because Puka Nacua could be facing a suspension soon. To prepare for his potential discipline, the Rams traded for Tutu Atwell on Thursday. Daniels will still make the 53-man roster, but the addition of Atwell adds more competition for him in the middle tier of the depth chart. He's now fifth or sixth in the receiving pecking order, whereas he had been making a case for the No. 4 role before the trade. Nevertheless, Daniels is much more of a long-term option for the Rams than Atwell, so dynasty managers shouldn't be too worried. The Miami product finished his first NFL preseason with an encouraging 15 catches and 128 yards, both of which led the Rams.

CJ Daniels Breaks Out in Second Preseason Game

Los Angeles Rams wide receiver CJ Daniels caught eight of his 13 targets for 68 yards during Saturday's preseason win over the New Orleans Saints. A sixth-round pick from Miami, Daniels' big preseason showing could help him push for a larger role on offense this season. However, his path to a starting role faces several obstacles. Puka Nacua and Davante Adams are locked in as the top two receivers, and it's hard to imagine one big preseason game would vault Daniels ahead of Jordan Whittington or Konata Mumpfield. Presumably, he'll open the year as the No. 5 receiver on the depth chart, and if he wants to carve out a more consistent role, he'll have to capitalize on every opportunity that comes his way. There's certainly a track record for production here, as Daniels caught 50 passes for 557 yards and seven touchdowns during his sixth and final year of college football. He's off the redraft radar, but he ranks as the overall WR111 in dynasty leagues.

CJ Daniels a Low-Priority Dynasty Stash

No strangers to bundling draft picks in pursuit of the players they covet, the Los Angeles Rams sent two additional seventh-round picks to the Philadelphia Eagles to move up 10 spots in the 2026 NFL Draft and select wide receiver CJ Daniels in the sixth round. While many expected the Rams to use an earlier pick at the position, Daniels was the only offseason addition to a room topped comfortably by one of the league's most dynamic duos in Puka Nacua and Davante Adams. Behind that pairing, the number three role is less decided, with a potential training camp battle expected to sort out a rotation between Daniels, Jordan Whittington, Konata Mumpfield, and Xavier Smith. Unfortunately, whoever claims the Rams' third receiver spot will hold very little fantasy relevance in an offense at the forefront of the tight end revival. That said, Adams is 33 years old, and Nacua plays a physical brand of football that has caused him to miss seven games over the past two seasons, so if Daniels can earn himself a roster spot, he has the size and versatility to handle an expanded role as an injury fill-in for either. At RotoBaller's dynasty WR117, he is by no means a player who needs to be targeted as aggressively as he was by the Rams in April, but he's worthy of an end-of-bench or taxi squad stash in deeper leagues.

CJ Daniels a Developmental Stash in Dynasty Leagues

Los Angeles Rams wide receiver CJ Daniels might not make an immediate impact in his rookie season, but he has the potential to contribute as a fantasy-relevant receiver long-term. Daniels is a sixth-round pick out of Miami, catching 50 passes for 557 yards and seven touchdowns en route to the Hurricanes' national championship berth. He's shown that he can contribute at a high level, but he's also on the older side for a prospect. Daniels played six seasons of college football, and he now heads to the NFL at 24 years old. The Rams' wide receiver room is top-heavy with Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, leaving very few targets for players like Daniels, Jordan Whittington, Konata Mumpfield, and Xavier Smith. With that being said, Nacua and Adams are both in contract years, and it seems unlikely that the latter will return to the Rams in 2027. That means that Daniels could be competing for the opportunity to start alongside Nacua long-term. With high upside in dynasty leagues, Daniels is worth targeting as an early fifth-round pick in 2026 rookie drafts.

Rams Select CJ Daniels with 197th Pick

The Los Angeles Rams have selected Miami (FL) wide receiver CJ Daniels with the 197th overall pick in the sixth round of the 2026 NFL Draft. A 24-year-old prospect, Daniels spent six seasons at three different schools, topping 1,000 yards once in a career-best 2023 season at Liberty that he was unable to replicate at either LSU or Miami. Lacking any truly elite traits, he proved himself to be a crafty route runner and an important piece of the Hurricanes' deep playoff run. He projects most comfortably as a big slot at the next level, and while the Rams have found recent success with a Day 3 pick of a similar archetype, Daniels is more likely to make his mark on special teams than as an impactful fantasy option.
