Deebo Samuel News
According to Sports Illustrated senior NFL reporter Albert Breer, the 49ers have no plans on dealing wide receiver Deebo Samuel. There were rumors that the wideout could be on the move, with the Patriots emerging as a potential suitor. However, per Breer, who spoke with "somebody who'd absolutely know on this," San Francisco isn't trading Samuel to New England. In fact, the team isn't trading him at all. The 27-year-old had a down season in 2022, finishing with 632 receiving yards and two touchdowns off 56 catches. He also had 232 rushing yards and three touchdowns off 42 carries. With that said, despite his dip in production, Samuel should draw interest from fantasy managers heading into the 2023-24 campaign. Yet, a healthy George Kittle and Brandon Aiyuk may not help Samuel improve his numbers from last season. In addition, uncertainty at the quarterback position is also another cause for concern regarding Samuel's outlook.
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel caught three passes for 33 yards in the Niners' 7-31 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game. The 27-year-old also lost nine yards on six carries. The 49ers were desperately trying to get anything going after both their quarterbacks got injured. Samuel was used on more rushes than he has in any playoff game this year, but the Eagles were expecting runs. Only three of Samuel's runs went for gains. He also took a fourth quarter kickoff out of the end zone for a 37-yard return, his only kickoff return of the season.
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel will have a tough matchup against the league's No. 1 passing defense. The Eagles are allowing the fewest passing yards per game and the fewest per attempt. They also lead the league in sacks and are in the top five for interceptions, so the 49ers offense likely will not produce much through the air. Samuel could have some upside as a rushing threat. The Eagles run defense is no better than average, allowing 4.7 yards per rush. Samuel is a mid-range starter for people betting on some explosive plays this weekend.
