Jaylen Wright Impressing Bobby Slowik During OTAs

Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik said running back Jaylen Wright is showing a greater comfort level this season and "has some speed," per David Furones of the Sun Sentinel. Wright missed time early in the 2025 season with a knee injury, but finished the year with 332 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns on 75 touches across 10 games. As long as star Dolphins running back De'Von Achane remains healthy, it will be difficult for Wright to earn enough touches to provide fantasy-relevant production. However, Wright may be on his way to firmly seizing the RB2 role in Miami away from fellow Dolphins back Ollie Gordon II. If Wright emerges as the clear backup to Achane, he would profile as one of the better handcuff running back options for fantasy managers entering 2026.

Jaylen Wright the Dynasty Handcuff Running Back to Own in Miami?

Miami Dolphins running back Jaylen Wright's 2025 season got off to a slow start, as he missed the first six weeks while recovering from a knee injury. However, the 23-year-old was fairly productive in a reserve role upon his return, finishing the year with 332 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns on 75 touches across 10 games played. Wright's path to regular playing time in Miami is blocked by star Dolphins running back De'Von Achane, whom the team recently signed to a four-year, $68 million extension. Still, Wright passed fellow Dolphins back Ollie Gordon II on the team's depth chart last season and projects to open 2026 as Miami's RB2. If Achane were to suffer an injury, Wright's fantasy value would immediately skyrocket. In dynasty formats, managers should consider buying low on Wright and stashing him in a bench spot for his handcuff appeal.

Jaylen Wright a Buy-Low Candidate as a Handcuff?

Make no mistake about it, Miami Dolphins running back De'Von Achane's four-year, $68 million contract extension that he signed on Wednesday is bad news for Jaylen Wright's fantasy stock in dynasty leagues. In Wright's second NFL season in 2025, he had nearly identical numbers to his rookie campaign while playing in five fewer games, although he was a bit more efficient with his touches and got more done after contact. The 23-year-old former fourth-round selection in 2024 out of the University of Tennessee saw 70 carries for 288 yards (4.1 yards per carry) and two touchdowns while adding five catches on nine targets for 44 yards as a pass-catcher in 10 games -- he missed the first six weeks while recovering from knee surgery. Wright was the RB2 behind Achane and ahead of short-yardage back Ollie Gordon II, and that should be the pecking order again going into Week 1 of the 2026 season. RotoBaller has Wright ranked as the No. 69 dynasty RB, but managers in those formats who have Achane rostered may want to consider buying low on Wright for insurance. If anything were to happen to Achane, Wright would be Miami's clear RB1 and would be a weekly fantasy starter in all formats.

Jaylen Wright Remains an Appealing Handcuff Option Following NFL Draft

Across 10 games in 2025, Miami Dolphins running back Jaylen Wright recorded 332 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns on 75 touches. Wright got off to a slow start to the year after suffering a leg injury that caused him to miss time. However, he gradually worked his way past fellow Dolphins back Ollie Gordon II on the depth chart and finished the year as Miami's primary RB2 behind De'Von Achane. The Dolphins did not add any notable competition to the running back room in the 2026 draft, but they did add offensive lineman Kadyn Proctor with a first-round pick. As long as Achane is in Miami, Wright's path to consistent fantasy production is largely blocked. Still, Wright offers clear handcuff appeal to fantasy managers heading into 2026, provided he can stay in front of Gordon II on the depth chart.

Jaylen Wright's Role Could Be Secure for Foreseeable Future

Dolphins running back Jaylen Wright finished 2025 with 70 carries, trailing only De'Von Achane in Miami's running back room despite missing seven games. With the Dolphins clearing house on the offensive side of the ball and all but declaring 2026 to be a rebuilding year, running back would seem to be a low-priority position for them in the upcoming NFL Draft. Ollie Gordon II will have his own role in keeping Achane fresh, especially with Miami likely to face an influx of loaded boxes, but he was inefficient as a rookie, and Wright is more adept at handling some of the vacated targets in the passing game. While Miami's offense is unlikely to produce multiple fantasy contributors in 2026, Wright still maintains some dynasty value as the more direct handcuff to Achane.

Jaylen Wright a Handcuff Option With Upside Going into Year 3

Miami Dolphins running back Jaylen Wright only appeared in 10 games (one start) in his second year in the NFL with the Dolphins in 2025, carrying the ball a career-high 70 times for 288 yards (4.1 yards per carry) and two touchdowns on the ground. He added five catches on nine targets for 44 yards through the air. The 22-year-old fourth-rounder in 2024 out of Tennessee stands at 5-foot-10 and 208 pounds. Wright has plenty of game-changing speed to break big plays, but the problem is his volume will likely continue to remain limited in Miami's backfield behind do-it-all back De'Von Achane. The Dolphins will have a new offensive system under new head coach Jeff Hafley and with new quarterback Malik Willis in 2026, but with Achane still expected to see the lion's share of snaps and touches, Wright won't be much more than an upside handcuff option for those who draft Achane early. In addition to fighting for touches with Achane, the Dolphins also have second-year back Ollie Gordon II. In his two years, Wright has only had 537 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground on 138 rushing attempts.

Jaylen Wright Set for Expanded Role in Week 18

Miami Dolphins running back Jaylen Wright will likely move into the lead-back role for the upcoming Week 18 matchup versus the New England Patriots. The Dolphins have decided to play it safe and ruled out De'Von Achane (shoulder) for the regular-season finale. His absence should mean an extended look for Wright and Ollie Gordon II during Sunday's game. Wright has shown he's capable of making plays when he's given increased touches in the backfield. The 22-year-old rushed for 107 yards on 24 carries with a touchdown against the New York Jets in Week 14. The Pats have a much better defense, but Wright should still get a ton of chances. Fantasy managers with championship games in Week 18 needing a FLEX spot, or looking for a cheaper option in DFS contests, might want to consider Wright with an increased workload.

Jaylen Wright Emerging as the Clear RB2 in Miami?

Across nine games in 2025, Miami Dolphins running back Jaylen Wright has recorded just 292 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns on 60 touches. However, the 22-year-old has played some of his best football in the month of December. Over his last four games, Wright has racked up 200 rushing yards and two scores on 39 carries. Wright's production upside is limited by the presence of star Dolphins running back De'Von Achane, who remains the clear lead back in Miami. However, Wright could be overtaking Ollie Gordon II for the team's RB2 role, as Wright has out-snapped Gordon II 26 to 11 over the past two weeks. In fantasy leagues with 14 or more teams, Wright could be worth targeting on the waiver wire heading into his Week 18 matchup against the New England Patriots.

Jaylen Wright Looking for Another Opportunity

Miami Dolphins running back Jaylen Wright seems to have taken over as the team's primary backup behind De'Von Achane. He played 18 snaps last week compared to just three for rookie Ollie Gordon II, and Wright added a garbage-time touchdown while taking his nine carries for 35 yards and catching one of his two targets for 18 yards. Wright had a massive game in Week 14 against the Jets after Achane left with an injury, racking up 107 yards and a touchdown. He has that kind of potential if a similar situation were to develop, but his role is limited behind Achane when he's healthy. He is only the RB61 in RotoBaller's rankings this week, indicating that he's best left on the bench or waiver wire against the Buccaneers in Week 17.

Jaylen Wright Scores Late Touchdown

Miami Dolphins running back Jaylen Wright scored his second touchdown of the season in the last five minutes of the team's 42-21 loss to the Bengals. After breaking out with a monster game in Week 14 against the Jets, he only had one carry and one target last week against the Steelers, but he was more involved on Sunday against Cincy. He finished with nine carries for 35 yards and one catch for 18 yards to go with his touchdown, while fellow backup Ollie Gordon II only had one carry for -1 yards. Wright seems to be the better option behind De'Von Achane at this point, but Achane will likely handle most of the work next week against the Bucs, with Wright mixing in a few times as a change-of-pace option.
