Jalen Tolbert Becomes Miami's WR1 After Most Recent Trade

The Miami Dolphins are in full-on rebuild mode after trading away top wide receiver Jaylen Waddle to the Denver Broncos on Tuesday in exchange for three draft picks, including a first-rounder this year. The Dolphins have already cut All-Pro receiver Tyreek Hill (knee), so free-agent addition Jalen Tolbert is now at the top of the team's receiving depth chart. The 27-year-old signed a one-year deal with Miami last week after spending the first four years of his NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys. Tolbert was a third-round pick in 2022 out of South Alabama. He had 1,093 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns on 91 catches over his four seasons, with his best season coming in 2024, when he had 49 catches, 610 receiving yards, and seven touchdowns in 17 games. Tolbert reportedly is a close friend of new Dolphins quarterback Malik Willis, too, so even if Miami addresses the position in the upcoming draft, he should have a pretty strong target floor in his first year in South Beach. Tolbert's redraft and dynasty/keeper value arrow is pointing upward.

Jalen Tolbert the New WR2 in Miami?

Wide receiver Jalen Tolbert could be the Miami Dolphins' new No. 2 wideout after they signed him to a one-year deal last Friday. The Dolphins also added former Los Angeles Rams receiver Tutu Atwell in free agency, but Tolbert will be the favorite to take over as Miami's WR2 after the team released Tyreek Hill (knee). The 27-year-old former third-round pick (88th overall) by the Dallas Cowboys in 2022 out of South Alabama had a career-best 49-610-7 line in 17 regular-season games with Dallas in 2024, but he regressed in 2025 for an 18-203-1 line in 13 games after the addition of wideout George Pickens. With a reportedly strong relationship with new quarterback Malik Willis, Tolbert could be in store for a breakout campaign if he opens the 2026 season as the team's WR2 behind Jaylen Waddle. In his four seasons in Dallas, Tolbert racked up 1,093 yards and 10 touchdowns. Miami could add to the WR position in April's draft, but as of right now, Tolbert is looking like a potential under-the-radar sleeper at the position for fantasy football.

Jalen Tolbert Signing One-Year Deal With Dolphins

Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Jalen Tolbert is signing an undisclosed one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins on Friday, sources told Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports. Miami's new quarterback, Malik Willis, was Tolbert's QB at the Senior Bowl when they were entering the league, and they are close friends. The versatile 27-year-old pass-catcher had over 1,000 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns with Dallas in his four seasons with the team. Tolbert's big season came in 2024 before George Pickens arrived, when he caught 49 of his 79 targets for a career-high 610 yards and seven touchdowns in 17 regular-season games. The former third-rounder in 2022 out of South Alabama only had 18 grabs last year for 203 yards and one touchdown on 34 targets. With Tyreek Hill leaving South Beach, Tolbert will have a prime opportunity to become the Dolphins' new WR2 behind Jaylen Waddle, barring any additions to the WR room in the draft. Tolbert could be shaping up as a late-round sleeper target in fantasy football, especially if his chemistry with Willis is strong.

Jalen Tolbert Falls Down Depth Chart in Contract Year

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Jalen Tolbert ended up getting buried on the depth chart during a crucial contract year in 2025. Tolbert opened the year as the presumptive No. 3 receiver behind CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, but he fell down the picking order as Ryan Flournoy and KaVontae Turpin took on larger roles. Pickens' breakout in Dallas also reduced Tolbert's volume. Tolbert ultimately finished the year sixth on the team in receiving yards (203) and seventh in receptions (18). Both represented a major step backward from 2024, when he had 49 catches, 610 yards, and seven touchdowns while finishing as the WR45 in PPR leagues. Tolbert's strong 2024 season will generate some interest in free agency, but the fact that he was essentially reduced to a non-factor in 2025 really hurts his stock. Plus, at 26 years old, teams will be looking to round out their depth chart with younger upside receivers. Tolbert can be dropped in most dynasty leagues. In very deep formats, he can be held for now, then traded when he signs somewhere this offseason.

Jalen Tolbert and Jaydon Blue Remain Inactive for Week 16

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Jalen Tolbert (coach's decision) and running back Jaydon Blue (coach's decision) are both healthy scratches for Sunday's Week 16 contest against the Los Angeles Chargers. Tolbert is now headed for his third consecutive absence, and he hasn't logged a catch since Week 8. Ryan Flournoy, KaVontae Turpin, and Jonathan Mingo have offered more value in their depth roles behind CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, leading to Tolbert being inactive. He can be dropped in all fantasy leagues. Meanwhile, Blue remains the odd man out from the Cowboys' backfield and is inactive for the seventh game in a row. Dallas' backfield will continue to feature just two running backs -- Javonte Williams and Malik Davis -- as well as fullback Hunter Luepke. Blue can be dropped in redraft leagues, but he remains an intriguing dynasty stash.

Jalen Tolbert, Jaydon Blue Won't Suit Up Against Eagles

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Jalen Tolbert (coach's decision) and running back Jaydon Blue (coach's decision) are healthy scratches for Sunday's Week 12 contest against the Philadelphia Eagles. Both players will be inactive. Tolbert had not previously missed a game this season, but his demotion is not necessarily a surprise, given that his snap share has been below 20% in each of the Cowboys' last three games. He has just 14 catches for 172 yards and one touchdown on offense, plus five kick returns on special teams. Ryan Flournoy and KaVontae Turpin should earn more opportunities in his absence. Meanwhile, Blue has been active for just four games during his rookie campaign, averaging 2.95 yards per carry. Dallas is carrying just two running backs (Javonte Williams and Malik Davis) into Sunday's game, as well as fullback Hunter Luepke.

Jalen Tolbert's Playing Time in Dallas Trending Downwards?

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Jalen Tolbert has been a modest producer so far this season, recording 14 catches for 172 yards and a touchdown on 24 targets across eight games played. Tolbert's playing time and target share have been trending downwards in recent weeks. After earning 18 targets over his first four games of 2025, Tolbert has been targeted just six times over his four most recent contests. Tolbert was always projected to be behind star wideouts CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens on the Dallas depth chart. However, Tolbert was also out-snapped by both Ryan Flournoy and KaVontae Turpin in the Cowboys' Week 8 loss to the Denver Broncos. When Lamb was sidelined by an ankle injury from Weeks 4-6, Tolbert was largely outplayed by Flournoy. Even if Lamb or Pickens were to get injured, Tolbert may now still find it difficult to get on the field. He should remain off the radar of fantasy managers in redraft leagues.

Jalen Tolbert No Longer Reliable After Losing Snaps to Teammate?

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Jalen Tolbert is not a reliable fantasy option for Week 6 against the Carolina Panthers. While Tolbert experienced a short stint of fantasy relevance with CeeDee Lamb (ankle) sidelined, he has lost significant allure after seemingly being supplanted by Ryan Flournoy. Last week, Tolbert had one target and zero catches on a 77 percent snap share while Flournoy had nine targets, six catches, and 114 yards on a 57 percent snap share. The latter has earned additional snaps going forward, while Tolbert is seemingly no longer a dependable target in Dak Prescott's offense. Tolbert should drop to third on the depth chart this week behind Flournoy and George Pickens, keeping him off the fantasy radar in most leagues. Managers can drop him to waivers and find a different receiver with a more consistent role and greater upside.

Jalen Tolbert In Line for Increased Opportunity in Week 6?

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Jalen Tolbert was targeted just once and held without a catch in Week 5 against the New York Jets. With Cowboys wideouts CeeDee Lamb (ankle) and KaVontae Turpin (foot) both sidelined, Tolbert appeared to be in line to serve as the team's WR2 alongside George Pickens. Instead, it was second-year wide receiver Ryan Flournoy who had a breakout game against the Jets, hauling in six of nine targets for 114 yards. Both Lamb and Turpin appear headed towards being out for Dallas' Week 6 matchup against the Carolina Panthers, so Tolbert will have another chance to make an impact. Still, given his subpar production in Week 5, Tolbert remains tough for fantasy managers to trust. At best, he profiles as a low-end flex option in deep leagues in Week 6 against Carolina.

Jalen Tolbert Offers Low-End Flex Appeal

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Jalen Tolbert has been seeing an increased role in the offense over the last few weeks. In the last two games, Tolbert has hauled in seven of his 12 targets for 85 yards. The 26-year-old has played over 80 percent of the offensive snaps during those games. The absence of CeeDee Lamb (ankle) has helped Tolbert, but it hasn't given him great fantasy value. Tolbert is worth a stash in deep leagues at the minimum. He should be considered a low-end flex option for the upcoming Week 5 matchup against the New York Jets.
