Chargers Acquire Odafe Oweh From the Ravens

The Los Angeles Chargers acquired edge rusher Odafe Oweh from the Baltimore Ravens on Tuesday, sources told Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Chargers safety Alohi Gilman and a fifth-round pick in the 2026 draft to Baltimore, and also received a 2027 seventh-round draft pick. The Chargers will hope that Oweh can pick up some of the pass-rushing slack in Los Angeles with Khalil Mack (elbow) currently on Injured Reserve. The 26-year-old former first-rounder had a career-best 10 sacks and 39 tackles (25 solo) with the Ravens in his fourth NFL season in 2024. However, despite getting consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks through five games this year, Oweh has yet to record a sack. Gilman will give the Ravens a much-needed healthy body for their banged-up secondary as they head into a Week 6 game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Odafe Oweh Adds 20 Pounds Ahead of Fifth NFL Campaign

Baltimore Ravens outside linebacker Odafe Oweh has gained 20 pounds this offseason, according to team reporter Jamison Hensley. The Penn State product weighed in at 245 pounds last season before bulking up to 265 pounds ahead of his 5th NFL season. Oweh enjoyed the best season of his career last year, compiling 39 tackles (25 solo), 10 sacks, one forced fumble, and one pass deflection. While his added mass could slow him down by a step, it could give him the ability to take on blocks as a run-stopper and pass-rusher more effectively. The 26-year-old figures to start opposite Kyle Van Noy once again on the outside of the strong Baltimore front seven.

Odafe Oweh Has Surgery, Morgan Moses Considering Going Under The Knife

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said that outside linebacker Odafe Oweh (thumb) recently had surgery on his thumb, while offensive tackle Morgan Moses (shoulder) is debating whether he'll have offseason surgery. Oweh, who also missed four games with an ankle injury in 2023, is expected to be out for six to eight weeks while recovering from his thumb surgery, so the 2021 first-rounder should be ready for training camp this summer and the start of the 2024 season. The 32-year-old Moses dealt with his shoulder injury for the last four months but still managed to play in 16 of the team's 19 games. The shoulder injury obviously wasn't too serious, but it's unclear how much time he'd have to miss this offseason if he eventually ends up going under the knife. Oweh tied his career-high of five sacks set in his rookie season and also had 23 tackles (20 solo) and 12 QB hits in his third NFL season.

Jayson Oweh Becomes Ravens Second First-Rounder

The Baltimore Ravens selected Penn State linebacker Jayson Oweh with the 31st overall pick of the first round of the 2021 NFL draft on Thursday night. The Ravens took Minnesota wide receiver Rashod Bateman with their first first-round pick at No. 27 overall. Oweh compares to Danielle Hunter physically and production-wise in college. He did not record a single sack in 2020 but tested as a physical freak with excellent speed, strength and length. He played the run pretty well, but questions remain as to whether he can be a legitimate pass-rusher in the NFL. Oweh's talent jumps off the page, though, so the Ravens are drafting him based on pure talent and athleticism here. They will be hoping to develop him and teach him some pass-rushing moves as a rookie.

Jayson Oweh Generates Buzz At Pro Day

Penn State edge rusher Jayson Oweh generated major buzz and boosted his draft stock at his school's Pro Day on Thursday, even though he didn't record a sack last season. The 6-foot-5, 257-pounder ran a 4.36-second 40-yard dash. Even though Oweh had high expectations for his speed numbers, he did not disappoint on Thursday. His arms measured 34.5 inches and he also showed explosiveness with a 39.5-inch vertical jump and a broad jump of 11 feet, two inches. Oweh's Pro Day confirmed that he is one of the biggest height-weight-speed freaks of the pre-draft process. NFL.com's Daniel Jeremiah has Oweh ranked at No. 33 in his top-50 draft prospect list.
