Washington Commanders right guard Sam Cosmi (knee) has been diagnosed with an ACL injury and will not return during the playoffs, head coach Dan Quinn announced Sunday. Cosmi suffered the injury during Saturday's Divisional Round victory over the Detroit Lions. The 25-year-old was an anchor on the offensive line this season, playing essentially every snap while providing impressive protection and leadership. When confirming Cosmi's injury, Quinn noted, "That's a big deal, the ballplayer and the man." Trent Scott is expected to operate as the Commanders' primary right guard going forward.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Washington Commanders right guard Sam Cosmi (knee) is set to undergo an MRI on his right knee. The 25-year-old sustained this knee injury during their victory over the Detroit Lions on Saturday evening. Cosmi suffered this injury during the second quarter and needed assistance to leave the field. He was replaced by Trent Scott. Fantasy managers should continue monitoring his status, but he will likely face an uphill battle to be ready for the NFC title game next weekend. Scott would continue to see starting opportunities on the offensive line while Cosmi is sidelined. Despite the Commanders scoring 45 points on Saturday evening, Cosmi's absence will be felt in the conference championship.
According to the team, Washington Commanders offensive guard Sam Cosmi (knee) is questionable to return to Saturday's playoff game against the Detroit Lions. Cosmi sustained this injury on Brian Robinson Jr.'s touchdown run in the second quarter. Cosmi needed assistance leaving the field. While sidelined, Trent Scott and Cornelius Lucas should see increased snaps. Update: Sam Cosmi has been ruled out for the remainder of the game
With the 51st pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Washington Football Team has drafted Texas offensive tackle Sam Cosmi. Washington still hasn't addressed their quarterback position, so for now, it looks like Cosmi will be pass blocking for veteran QB Ryan Fitzpatrick in 2021. Cosmi has all the physical tools needed to be a high-end tackle, but he never seemed to put it all together in Austin. He could crack this starting lineup at some point this upcoming season.
