Javon Kinlaw Agrees With Commanders On Three-Year Deal
The Washington Commanders signed free-agent defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw to a three-year, $45 million deal on Monday that includes $30 million guaranteed, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Kinlaw moves to the NFC East after spending last year with the New York Jets, where he posted career-highs in tackles (40) and sacks (4.5) while recording five tackles for loss, five QB hits, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in 17 starts for Gang Green. The 27-year-old will slot in inside on Washington's defensive line alongside Daron Payne and Jer'Zhan Newton. Kinlaw was the 14th overall selection in the 2020 NFL draft by the San Francisco 49ers out of South Carolina. He's never been on the IDP radar with 9.5 career sacks in five NFL seasons, but he'll provide experience and depth on the interior in 2025 and beyond for the Commanders' D-line.
According to Matt Barrows of The Athletic, the 49ers are unlikely to exercise the fifth-year option on defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw, which would pay him over $10 million in 2024-25. The 25-year-old was taken with the No. 14 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Since then, he's totaled 45 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and 1.0 interceptions in three seasons. However, he's appeared in only 24 games during his career, including missing most of last season because of a knee issue. Nevertheless, it will be a make-it-or-break-it year for Kinlaw, who may have one more chance in San Francisco to prove he can stay healthy.
The San Francisco 49ers officially activated defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw (knee) from Injured Reserve on Friday, giving an already dominant defensive line even more help heading into the postseason. Kinlaw played the first three games of the season before landing on Injured Reserve. The 25-year-old tore his ACL last season and wasn't quite ready to make his return. Hopefully, he'll be good to go for the final three regular season games and for the postseason. Kinlaw has only played 21 games (19 starts) so far in three NFL seasons, but his presence the rest of this season will surely be a boost for the Niners D. Start San Fran's defensive unit with confidence on Saturday against the Washington Commanders.
Javon Kinlaw Designated To Return From Injured Reserve
The San Francisco 49ers designated first-round defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw (knee) to return from Injured Reserve on Tuesday, opening his 21-day practice window and for the team to officially activate him from Injured Reserve. If Kinlaw looks good at practice this week, he'll have a shot to make his return in a Week 16 matchup versus the Washington Commanders on Saturday. The 25-year-old had two solo tackles in the first three games of the season before getting hurt and landing on Injured Reserve. One of the best defensive lines in football is about to get another excellent player back. Fantasy managers should continue to start San Fran's defensive unit with plenty of confidence, including this weekend against Washington.
San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw (knee) recently underwent a successful ACL reconstruction on his injured right knee to fix chronic changes in his knee. The 49ers are hoping that the 24-year-old first-round pick in 2020 can return to full health for the start of the 2022 campaign. Kinlaw was working through knee issues in training camp and managed to play in four of the team's first five games before the injury just became too much. San Francisco will be hoping that the procedure takes care of his knee issue and he can move forward in 2022 and beyond as a big part of their defensive line.
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said that former first-round defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw (knee) underwent season-ending right knee surgery. "They think they solved the problem," Shanahan said. The 24-year-old played in only four games in his second season in the NFL and finished with eight tackles and no sacks. Kinlaw already had some concerns about his knee when he was taken 14th overall in the 2020 draft, and he missed the final two games of his rookie season with knee issues. The Niners are expected to activate Kevin Givens (ankle) from Injured Reserve once they place Kinlaw on IR. Defensive tackle Maurice Hurst (calf) has already been ruled out for Week 8 against the Chicago Bears, and defensive end Dee Ford (concussion) is doubtful.
San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw (knee) is currently in Los Angeles being evaluated, and he could need season-ending surgery. The 14th overall pick last year has missed two games with a knee injury that required multiple offseason surgeries after he initially injured it on Dec. 20 last year. Kinlaw has yet to practice in full this year and could miss the rest of the season, depending on the results of his testing in LA. In four games in his second NFL season, Kinlaw has just eight tackles. The 24-year-old missed the season opener and also sat out of the Week 7 loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday night.
The San Francisco 49ers will be without defensive lineman Javon Kinlaw (knee) for Week 16 against the Cardinals on Saturday. Cornerback Emmanuel Moseley (hamstring), who was questionable, will play. Cornerback Richard Sherman (calf) also will not play for San Francisco's defense. The Niners defense hasn't been terrible this year, but they just haven't had a ton of upside ever since losing All-Pro pass-rusher Nick Bosa to a season-ending injury early in the year. Not having veteran cornerback Sherman in the fold is also bad news against an offense featuring quarterback Kyler Murray and leading receiver DeAndre Hopkins. Fantasy managers shouldn't be looking to the 49ers Defense for league-winning upside this week.
The San Francisco 49ers placed rookie defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw on the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Wednesday. The first-round has recorded 22 tackles (10 solo), three quarterback hits, three passes defensed and 1.5 sacks in 10 games (eight starts) to begin his NFL career. Even if Kinlaw actually tested positive for COVID-19, he should have plenty of time to clear the league's protocols and play in Week 12 against the division-rival Rams. The 49ers are currently on their bye in Week 11, so the timing is good for Kinlaw and San Francisco's defensive line. The Niners defense was an attractive fantasy unit coming into the season, but they've been decimated by injuries and won't be a strong consideration against LA.
The San Francisco 49ers moved back a spot from No. 13 and selected South Carolina defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw with the No. 14 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft on Thursday. Kinlaw reminds some of Richard Seymour with a long and powerful frame, but he'll need to play with leverage in the NFL to be successful for the Niners. He showed great pass-rushing ability with his long arms and create havoc on the interior. Kinlaw should help replace DeForest Buckner on the defensive line for a San Francisco defense that was already one of the best units in the league in 2019. They just got a lot better. The Niners defense should be one of the top defensive units drafted in the later rounds.
