Skylar Thompson Serving As Emergency Third QB On Monday Night

Miami Dolphins quarterback Skylar Thompson (ribs) is officially inactive for Monday night's contest at Hard Rock Stadium against the visiting Tennessee Titans and will serve as the team's emergency third QB behind starter Tyler Huntley and backup Tim Boyle. There was some uncertainty as to who would start under center for Miami on Monday night after Thompson injured his ribs in the Week 3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Boyle replaced Thompson in that game, but the Dolphins have decided to pivot to the recently signed Huntley, who will be making the 10th start of his career since entering the league in 2020. Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) is on Injured Reserve and is out indefinitely. If Huntley handles himself well and gives the team a chance to win on Monday against the Titans, he could be in play to make a second straight start in Week 5 against the division-rival Patriots, regardless of Thompson's health.

Skylar Thompson Listed As Questionable For Week 4

Miami Dolphins quarterback Skylar Thompson (ribs) is listed as questionable on the team's final injury report. Thompson got a limited practice in on Saturday to make it three straight limited sessions on the practice field. The team has already named Tyler Huntley as the starting quarterback for Week 4 against Tennessee on Monday night. But Thompson has a shot to get back as the backup QB in this game after suffering a rib injury last week. Thompson has struggled since taking over for Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) and the team will look to Huntley for a spark. Thompson could be available and ready to go off the bench if needed.

Skylar Thompson Limited Again

Miami Dolphins quarterback Skylar Thompson (ribs) was listed as limited in the team's Friday practice. It's the second practice in a row he's been designated as such. While the news that he has been able to participate in some fashion is at least encouraging, reports out of Thursday's practice were not exactly glowing. Thompson was seen with a brace under his pads and did not take many throws. Additionally, head coach Mike McDaniel has yet to be inclined to name a starter for Miami's Week 4 matchup against the Tennessee Titans. His lack of a decision is partly due to his desire to gain a competitive edge, but maybe he is holding off to see if the 27-year-old can make enough progress to suit up. Perhaps this is a pain management issue for the former seventh-round pick. Regardless, he'll have one more chance to positively affect his status ahead of this week's contest in the team's final practice on Saturday. If he cannot play, either Tyler Huntley or Tim Boyle will get the start for the Fins. It is believed Huntley will be named the starter. However, fantasy managers will want to monitor this situation for a few more days.

Skylar Thompson Limited On Thursday

Miami Dolphins quarterback Skylar Thompson (ribs) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, according to Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post. Thompson left last week's game early due to a rib injury and remains in questionable status. The Dolphins do not play until Monday this week against the Tennessee Titans, so Thompson will have an additional day to recover from his injury. Filling in for Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) last week, Thompson completed just 13 of his 19 attempts for 107 yards and no scores. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor Thompson's status throughout the week, as Tim Boyle or Tyler Huntley could be called upon to start Monday's game. Head coach Mike McDaniel told reporters he has an idea of who will start on Monday, but he's not willing to share yet, in part for competitive reasons.

Dolphins Continue To Assess Skylar Thompson

Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said variables are vague with the quarterback decision for Week 4 on Monday night against the Tennessee Titans as Skylar Thompsons' (ribs) health continues to be assessed over the coming 48 hours. "There's a lot of stuff on the table," McDaniel said. Thompson's status for Week 4 is firmly up in the air after he injured his ribs in the Week 3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) is on Injured Reserve and nobody knows when/if he'll play again, so if Thompson doesn't get cleared, the Dolphins will have to decide between Tim Boyle and Tyler Huntley to start on Monday night. Thompson went 13-for-19 for 107 yards against Seattle on Sunday before getting hurt. No matter who is under center for Miami in Week 4, it's going to be more bad news for running back De'Von Achane and receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

Skylar Thompson Dealing With Rib Injury

Miami Dolphins quarterback Skylar Thompson (rib) has been diagnosed with a rib injury he picked up in the team's 24-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. It's unclear when exactly he sustained the injury, but a hit by Dre'Mont Jones early in the third quarter is what eventually took him out of the game. Head coach Mike McDaniel told reporters that the injury is "pretty painful" and that Thompson lobbied to stay in the game. However, the pain was ultimately too much. Tests will undoubtedly be done on the 27-year-old over the coming few days. Fortunately for Miami, their Week 4 matchup against the Tennessee Titans is on Monday night, so the veteran QB will be afforded a few extra days of rest. If Thompson is too hurt to play, Tim Boyle will again slot in as the Fins' starter. Additionally, seeing the team inquire about veteran help at the position wouldn't be surprising.

Skylar Thompson Won't Return On Sunday

Miami Dolphins quarterback Skylar Thompson (chest) won't return to the Week 3 meeting with the Seahawks. With Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) sidelined, Thompson has been under center for the Dolphins. Unfortunately, the Fins' issues continued, as the signal-caller took a hit that sent him to the locker room. Thompson will finish Week 3 by throwing for 107 yards off 13-for-19 passing, with veteran Tim Boyle taking over in relief. The Dolphins won't play again until Monday night in Week 4, so Thompson has more time to recover, assuming the injury isn't severe. If he misses time, the Dolphins may need to sign someone, with veteran Ryan Tannehill likely to draw interest from the organization.

Skylar Thompson Taken To The Locker Room

Miami Dolphins quarterback Skylar Thompson (undisclosed) exited Sunday's meeting with the Seahawks. It's unknown what's ailing the signal-caller. But he took a tough shot in the second half. Starting for Tua Tagovailoa (concussion), Thompson should be considered questionable to return. If he doesn't make it back to the field, he'll finish with Week 3 by throwing for 107 yards off 13-for-19 passing. Tim Boyle, recently elevated from the practice squad, is in under center, possibly for the remainder of the contest.

Skylar Thompson Not Recommended In Week 3

Miami Dolphins quarterback Skylar Thompson will not be a viable fantasy option when the team faces the Seattle Seahawks on the road in Week 3. He will man the helm in Miami for at least the foreseeable future, with starter Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) on injured reserve. Thompson saw extended play this preseason and regularly hooked up with the tight ends and running backs in the passing game. However, not much can be gleaned from his rapport with the wideouts, as Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle did not appear in preseason action. The Dolphins' offensive skill players will get a downgrade across the board, with the 27-year-old under-center. That's reflected in the 41-point combined-point total in their tilt against Seattle. The former Kansas State quarterback is not a suggestion outside of a desperation play in 2QB formats with passing numbers down league-wide thus far in 2024.

Skylar Thompson Will Start In Week 3

Updating a previous report, CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones reports that Miami Dolphins quarterback Skylar Thompson will start in Week 3 against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. The Dolphins are taking it "day by day" with Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) after he suffered another scary concussion in last Thursday night's loss to the division-rival Buffalo Bills. If the Dolphins place him on Injured Reserve, he would miss a minimum of four games, pending him passing the league's concussion protocol. A previous report suggests that Tagovailoa hasn't been ruled out for Week 3 yet, but that seems like only a matter of time. Tagovailoa is back with the team, but his health and well-being are of utmost concern right now. Fantasy managers relying on him in one- or two-QB leagues should have already made alternate plans for the upcoming weeks. Thompson is only worth a waiver pickup as a bench stash in superflex formats.
