Andres Gimenez Reinstated and Starting on Tuesday

The Toronto Blue Jays announced on Tuesday that they reinstated infielder Andres Gimenez (ankle) from the 10-day injured list and designated infielder Buddy Kennedy for assignment in a corresponding move. Gimenez will return to second base and bat ninth in Tuesday's series opener against the visiting Chicago Cubs and right-hander Javier Assad, who will be making his season debut. The 26-year-old won't carry much DFS appeal at all at the bottom of Toronto's batting order. He's gone 1-for-3 against Assad in his career. Gimenez went 7-for-18 with a steal and three runs scored in five minor-league rehab games, but he's mostly a glove-first guy that doesn't do much for fantasy managers in mixed leagues. He's returning to a .218/.300/.322 slash line with five home runs, 23 RBI, 26 runs scored and 10 stolen bases on the season in 61 games played.

Andres Gimenez Nearing Rehab Assignment

Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Andres Gimenez (ankle) is expected to begin running the bases by Friday in Toronto, according to Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet. Gimenez could begin a minor-league rehab assignment shortly after that if all goes well. The 26-year-old infielder has been out since early July with a sprained left ankle, but if he doesn't have any setbacks, he could be cleared to come off the 10-day injured list by the middle of next week. When fully healthy, Gimenez is the regular starting first baseman for Toronto, although he's a better defender than he is on offense. The Venezuelan left-handed hitter is batting just .218 (46-for-211) on the year with five home runs, 23 RBI, 26 runs scored and 10 stolen bases, making him mostly a middle-infield depth piece for his modest speed in AL-only fantasy formats.

Andres Gimenez Begins Running

Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Andres Gimenez (ankle) began a running progression on Thursday. This is a positive step forward for Gimenez who has been sidelined since early July due a sprained left ankle. There doesn't appear to be a timetable for his return right now. Jays' manager John Schneider said the first day of running went better than expected for Gimenez. It's unclear if Gimenez will require a minor league rehab assignment before getting back into the mix in Toronto. Gimenez has struggled this season, slashing .218/.300/.322 with five home runs, 23 RBI, and 10 steals in 61 games. He's only worth a look in deep leagues at the moment.

Andres Gimenez Doing Baseball Activities

Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Andres Gimenez (ankle) is with the team in Toronto for the start of the second half of the season while doing some defensive work and hitting, according to Shi Davidi of Sportsnet. Gimenez landed on the 10-day injured in early July due to a sprained left ankle, and he was expected to be in a walking boot for five to seven days. The 26-year-old has since ditched the walking boot and is doing some baseball activities, which suggests he could be close to embarking on a minor-league rehab assignment. Ernie Clement got the nod at the keystone in Friday's series opener against the San Francisco Giants, but Leo Jimenez, Will Wagner and Davis Schneider could all see work there until Gimenez returns. Gimenez is more of a defensive asset to Toronto than a fantasy one, as he's hitting just .218 with five homers, 26 runs and 10 steals in 2025.

Andres Gimenez Week-to-Week with Ankle Injury

Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Andres Gimenez (ankle) is undergoing treatment on his ailing left ankle and remains "week-to-week," according to manager John Schneider. Gimenez has been on the 10-day injured list since July 5 with a sprain. The glove-first 26-year-old hit .218/.300/.322 with five homers, 23 RBI, 26 runs scored, and 10 stolen bases in 238 plate appearances before suffering the injury. The surging Jays have turned to a combination of Ernie Clement and Leo Jimenez at the keystone in Gimenez's absence.

Andres Gimenez Hits 10-Day Injured List

Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Andres Gimenez (ankle) was placed on the 10-day injured list before their contest on Sunday against the Los Angeles Angels. Gimenez suffered a left ankle sprain during their contest on Wednesday. He eventually returned to the starting nine on Friday but faced a setback during that game. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status as the team has not provided a definitive timeline. In a corresponding move, the Blue Jays promoted outfielder Joey Loperfido from Triple-A Buffalo. Over his last 11 games, Gimenez has been very productive at the plate, posting a .342/.390/447 slash line with a double and a home run. While Gimenez is sidelined, fantasy managers should expect Ernie Clement and Davis Schneider to see most of the opportunities at the keystone.

Andres Gimenez Sidelined on Saturday

Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Andres Gimenez (ankle) is not in the starting nine on Saturday when the Blue Jays continue a series against the Los Angeles Angels. Gimenez suffered an ankle injury during the contest against the Yankees on Wednesday. While he was able to return to the starting nine on Friday, Gimenez was eventually lifted from that game. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status, as he could be in danger of sitting out on Sunday as well. Over his last 11 contests, Gimenez has been one of the most productive hitters in the sport, posting a .342/.390/.447 slash line with one double, one home run, and nine RBI. Through 61 total games this season, Gimenez has held a .218/.300/.322 line. This afternoon, Davis Schneider will cover the keystone and bat in the nine-hole.

Andres Gimenez Undergoes MRI on Ankle

Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Andres Gimenez will undergo an MRI on his ankle after reaggravating an injury that originally occurred on Wednesday. He reaggravated it running the bases in Friday's 4-3 extra-innings win over the Angels. For now he's considered day-to-day, but depending the results of the MRI, a trip to the injured list is possible. The 26-year-old already missed a month earlier this season due to a quad injury, so hopefully this new injury won't keep him out long. The left-handed hitter is having a rough year, slashing .218/.300/.322, but had been hitting well recently, going 10-for-21 (.476) over his last six games, including a home run, nine RBI, four runs scored, and a stolen base.

Andres Gimenez Exits Early on Friday

Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Andres Gimenez (ankle) made his return to the lineup on Friday, but sadly it didn't last too long. Gimenez tweaked his ankle on Wednesday and as a result sat out on Thursday. He appears to have re-aggravated the injury while running the bases in the sixth inning on Friday. Gimenez attempted to talk his way into staying on the field, but ultimately exited the contest. The expectation is that the Blue Jays will have Gimenez undergo further testing to determine the severity of the injury. Before exiting, Gimenez went 1-for-3 with a single and an RBI. Leo Jimenez figures to see increased playing time if Gimenez doesn't play this weekend.

Andres Gimenez Back in Action Versus Angels

Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Andres Gimenez (ankle) is back at second base and batting leadoff for Friday's series opener against the visiting Los Angeles Angels and right-hander Kyle Hendricks. Gimenez left Wednesday's win over the New York Yankees early with a minor ankle injury and was held out of the series finale on Thursday, but he'll return to the field atop the batting order for Friday's series opener. Although the 26-year-old doesn't feature much power at the plate, he'll be in play as a DFS sleeper at the second base position out of the leadoff spot against a soft-tossing pitcher. He has a solo home run in two career at-bats against Hendricks. The Venezuelan infielder is hitting a weak .216/.299/.322 with a .621 OPS, only five home runs, 22 RBI, 26 runs scored and 10 steals in 208 at-bats on the year.
