Arjun Nimmala Day-to-Day With Hand Laceration

Los Angeles Angels shortstop prospect Arjun Nimmala (hand), who was acquired from the Toronto Blue Jays in the trade involving right-hander Jose Soriano, is day-to-day after leaving Double-A Rocket City's game on Thursday with a left-hand laceration, according to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com. Nimmala, who is considered the Angels' No. 2 prospect by MLB Pipeline, doubled twice for the Trash Pandas before leaving the contest. The 20-year-old former 20th overall selection by Toronto in 2023 spent most of his time this year at Double-A New Hampshire, hitting .279/.355/.451 with an .806 OPS, four home runs, 11 RBI, 21 runs scored, and four stolen bases in only 33 games across 138 plate appearances. Nimmala came into Thursday's game, his second with Rocket City, hitting .261 (59-for-226) with eight homers, 34 RBI, 41 runs, and six stolen bases in 63 minor-league games with five different teams in 2026. The 6-foot, 190-pounder might only be average, at best, at defense at the 6 long-term, but he has intriguing power potential from the right side of the plate. Nimmala isn't expected to be a candidate for his MLB debut until 2028.

Top Prospect Arjun Nimmala Shipped to Angels in Major Trade

The Toronto Blue Jays are trading top infield prospect Arjun Nimmala, along with outfielder Eddie Micheletti and right-handed pitcher Angel Rivero, to acquire starting pitcher Jose Soriano from the Los Angeles Angels, per ESPN's Jeff Passan. Nimmala is the clear top return in this package for the Angels. Per MLB.com, the shortstop currently sits as the No. 46 overall prospect in the sport and was the No. 2-ranked prospect in the Toronto system ahead of the trade. In 2026, the former 20th overall selection has split most of his time between High-A and Double-A. After logging 23 games at High-A, Nimmala was given the green light to join Double-A New Hampshire, where he has posted a sharp .279/.355/.451 line with nine doubles, four home runs and four stolen bases. Dynasty managers should keep a close eye on Nimmala's progression as he should contend for an early call-up to Triple-A in 2027, which could open the door for a second-half MLB debut.

Arjun Nimmala Producing in Injury Interrupted Season

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop prospect Arjun Nimmala has dealt with a right-hamstring strain this season, but he has been able to produce in limited at-bats across four levels of the minors. Back with the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats, Nimmala has racked up three homers and five RBI in just seven games. The 20-year-old shortstop has been hot since rejoining New Hampshire and has found some of his 60-grade power. The Blue Jays' No. 2 overall prospect still has some development to do in the minors before he becomes fantasy relevant, but if he continues to produce at Double-A, he could be looking at a Triple-A promotion before the end of the year. More of a dynasty league play at this point, it is worth tracking Nimmala's development because he has major potential to be an eventual producer at the big league level and thus a fantasy contributor.

Arjun Nimmala Promoted to Double-A

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop prospect Arjun Nimmala has been promoted to Double-A New Hampshire, according to Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com. He had been hitting the ball quite well at High-A so far this season, slashing .241/.360/.482 with four home runs, 19 RBI, and 133 wRC+ as a member of the Vancouver Canadiens. A first-round pick back in 2023, Nimmala has a power-oriented swing but still makes enough contact to avoid being a major strikeout liability. Defensively, he plays well enough to project as a future everyday shortstop in the major leagues. His MLB debut is still a while away, but being promoted to Double-A is certainly a step in the right direction. Nimmala ranks #22 among shortstop prospects in RotoBaller's latest dynasty fantasy baseball rankings.

Arjun Nimmala Adds Weight Ahead of Spring Training

Toronto Blue Jays infield prospect Arjun Nimmala added 15 pounds ahead of the start of camp, according to Mitch Bannon of The Athletic. The young infielder reportedly lost significant weight over the 2025 MiLB season, which contributed to his power slump in the second half. Last summer, Nimmala held a promising .840 OPS in the first half with a .266/.356/.484 slash line. However, in the second half, the former 20th overall pick from the 2023 MLB Draft posted a much lower .179/.267/.271 line with a .538 OPS. Given that the 20-year-old spent the entire 2025 season with High-A, a strong showing in spring training could earn him a promotion to Double-A to begin the regular season. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his development as he remains on track for a 2027 MLB debut.

Arjun Nimmala Earns Invitation to Spring Training

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop prospect Arjun Nimmala will participate in major league spring training as a non-roster invite, according to an announcement from the team. Nimmala peaked at High-A in 2025, but he's regarded as one of the top young players in Toronto's farm system. In fact, he is listed as the Blue Jays' No. 2 prospect in the latest rankings from FanGraphs. The 2023 first-round pick posted an underwhelming .224/.313/.381 slash line with a 10.1% walk rate, 21.4% strikeout rate, and 92 wRC+ across 120 High-A games last year. He also slugged 13 home runs and stole 17 bases. FanGraphs lists power as Nimmala's best attribute, while assigning below-average grades to his speed and hit tools. They project that he'll make his MLB debut in 2028.

Arjun Nimmala Ends First Half in a Slump

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop prospect Arjun Nimmala concluded his first half of the campaign in a bit of a skid at High-A. Over his last 17 games with High-A Vancouver, Nimmala held a low .118/.200/.176 slash line with just four doubles, two stolen bases, and a 19:6 K:BB. However, during his first 61 games with High-A, Nimmala was quite impressive, holding a .270/.358/.484 slash line with 16 doubles, two triples, 11 home runs, and five stolen bases. During this stretch, he held a solid 57:32 K:BB and scored 46 runs. Last season, the top-ranked prospect in Toronto spent the majority of his season with Low-A Dunedin and carried a .232/.313/.476 line. Given his slow finish to the first half, fantasy managers should expect Nimmala to spend the entire second half with High-A.

Arjun Nimmala Earns Northwest Player of the Week Honors

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop prospect Arjun Nimmala had a strong six games last week, going 9-for-25 (.360) with a double, a triple, two home runs, six RBI, six runs scored, two steals, and a 4:3 BB:K. The effort earned him Northwest Player of the Week honors for High-A Vancouver. The 19-year-old is slashing .286/.368/.540 with nine home runs, and after a surge from the 78th-ranked prospect overall per MLB.com before the season began to 59th overall in their May refresh of the list, the right-handed slugger continues to reinforce that sentiment. Look for the Jays to see how he fares at Double-A later this year, however, he may still be a couple of years away from the majors.

Arjun Nimmala Swinging a Hot Bat at High-A

Given his impressive production at High-A, fantasy managers should expect Nimmala to contend for a promotion to Double-A in the coming weeks.

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop prospect Arjun Nimmala went 3-for-3 with a triple, a home run, and a walk during their contest against High-A Eugene on Tuesday evening. Nimmala tallied four RBI in this contest and scored one run. Over his last eight contests, Nimmala has been swinging a hot bat, posting a .333/.405/.700 slash line with three doubles, one triple, two home runs, and a 6:5 K:BB. Overall, through his first 35 games at the High-A level this season, the No. 1-ranked prospect in the Toronto system has held his own, carrying a .288/.365/.554 slash line. He has launched eight long balls, added 11 doubles, and posted a 31:16 K:BB. Last season, Nimmala spent his entire campaign with Low-A.
