Guardians Sign Anthony Banda, Dom Nunez To Minor-League Deals
The Cleveland Guardians have signed left-hander Anthony Banda and catcher Dom Nunez to minor-league deals. Both players will receive an invitation to big-league spring training. Banda, 30, made 10 appearances with the Nationals in 2023, posting a 6.43 ERA while walking 14.3% of the 35 hitters he faced across just seven innings of work. He also struggled to a 7.58 ERA across 33 outings (10 starts) at Triple-A a season ago. Nunez, 29, didn't appear in the big leagues in 2023 but rather spent the season at Triple-A between the Pirates and Cubs organizations. He combined to hit just .187 with five home runs and a .637 OPS across 63 games. In the big leagues, he has hit .180 with 12 home runs and a .653 OPS across 111 appearances, all with the Rockies in parts of three seasons from 2019-2022.
Colorado Rockies catcher Dom Nunez has been optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque on Sunday. Colorado needed to clear a space on the roster following Elias Diaz's (hand) activation from the 10-day injured list. Nunez is slashing just .121/.244/.152 across 33 at-bats in the majors this season. Diaz and Brian Serven will split duties behind the plate for the Rockies the rest of the way.
Colorado Rockies catcher Dom Nunez went 1-for-3 with a double, two RBI, one run scored, a walk, and two strikeouts in a 5-4 loss to the Diamondbacks on Sunday. Nunez put the Rockies on the board in the top of the second inning with a two-run double. He would go on to score later that inning. He also reached base later in the contest with a walk. The 26-year-old backstop got off to a hot start back in April but fell off a cliff the rest of the way. He was outperformed by Elias Diaz for most of the season and finished with a .189 batting average, .692 OPS, 10 home runs, and 33 RBI over 228 at-bats.
Colorado Rockies catcher Dom Nunez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a 7-5 win over the San Diego Padres on Wednesday. Nunez gave the Rockies a temporary lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when he took Jake Arrieta deep for a solo home run to make the score 5-4. It was his eighth homer of the season and his only hit of the ball game. The 26-year-old backstop is now batting a meager .176 with a .662 OPS, eight home runs, and 28 RBI across 182 at-bats this season. Elias Diaz is the catcher to roster in Colorado but he's more of a two-catcher league option.
Colorado Rockies catcher Dom Nunez went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in a 13-8 win over the Miami Marlins on Sunday. Nunez parked his seventh home run of the season in the second inning, a two-run blast, to put the Rockies up 5-1. He swatted one of six Colorado home runs in the high-scoring affair. Nunez has had his bright spots this season but he hasn't been able to hit with any consistency. The 26-year-old is batting .173 with a .656 OPS, seven home runs, and 27 RBI over 173 at-bats. If you want to roster a Colorado catcher then Elias Diaz is your man, not Nunez.
Colorado Rockies catcher Dom Nunez went 1-for-4 with a home run and two strikeouts in a 6-2 loss to the Los Angeles Angels on Monday. Nunez was locked into a battle with starting pitcher Shohei Ohtani in the top of the fifth inning. He fouled off three pitches and worked three balls before he swatted the seventh pitch over the wall in right field. It was Nunez's sixth home run of the season and his first since way back on May 1. The 26-year-old catcher is batting .173 with a .648 OPS, six home runs, 25 RBI, and 70 strikeouts across 162 at-bats. Elias Diaz is the backstop to roster in two-catcher leagues, no Nunez.
Colorado Rockies catcher Dom Nunez went 1-for-2 with a double, three RBI, and a walk in a 6-3 win over the Mariners on Wednesday. Nunez delivered the big hit in the ball game as he smacked a bases-loaded double off of opener Keynan Middleton in the first inning. The double, his 10th of the year, would put the Rockies up 5-0. He would reach base again later in the ball game with a walk as well. The 26-year-old backstop has been thoroughly outplayed by his counterpart, Elias Diaz, over the last month but he's collected five hits over his last seven games. Nunez is slashing .173/.282/.359 with five home runs and 24 RBI across 156 at-bats for the year. There are betters catcher options to choose from if you need help.
Colorado Rockies catcher Dom Nunez produced three hits, including two doubles, as his club avoided being swept in a 9-3 victory over the Diamondbacks. Nunez is now batting .173 with five home runs and 21 RBI. In his last seven games played the catcher has five hits. However, despite having a great game, Dom Nunez is pretty much a non-factor for fantasy baseball players in 2021.
Colorado Rockies catcher Dom Nunez went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored, an RBI, and a walk in a 9-3 win over the Diamondbacks on Thursday. Nunez put Colorado on the board in the top of the second inning with an RBI double. He would pick up two more hits, including another double, and reach base with a walk later in the contest. This was Nunez's first three-hit game of the season and his first multi-hit performance since May 21. The 26-year-old backstop hasn't homered since May 1 and has been outplayed by fellow catcher Elias Diaz over the last month. He's got a .174 batting average and .637 OPS to go along with five home runs and 21 RBI on the season.
Colorado Rockies catcher Dom Nunez went 1-for-2 with a double, an RBI, a run scored, and a walk in a 3-1 win over the A's on Sunday. Nunez hit his sixth double of the season off of James Kaprielian in the third inning and came around to score via a Raimel Tapia single. He picked up his RBI with a sacrifice fly off of Yusmeiro Petit in the eighth inning as well. Nunez has been slumping at the dish over the last month, he hasn't homered since May 1. Neither he nor Elias Diaz has been able to assert themselves as the everyday catcher so they'll continue to split time. He's slashing a suboptimal .168/.269/.389 with five home runs and 20 RBI across 113 at-bats. There's no fantasy value in either player right now.
