Oakland Athletics relief pitcher Domingo Acevedo earned his 18th hold of the season on Sunday in the team's 5-3 win over the Seattle Mariners in the series finale. Acevedo struck out one batter without allowing a hit in his scoreless inning of work. The 28-year-old Dominican right-hander has been strong of late, working four straight scoreless innings. He's allowed just one earned run on four hits while walking none and striking out four in 8 1/3 innings in his eight appearances so far in the month of August. Acevedo is now sporting a 2.93 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, 46 strikeouts and 12 walks in 55 1/3 relief innings for the A's in just his second major league season.
The New York Yankees have demoted pitcher Domingo Acevedo to Double-A. He was recalled prior to the team's game on Saturday but he did not make an appearance before being sent down. Acevedo is currently ranked as the Yankees eighth best prospect by MLB Pipeline and he has shown massive potential in the past. In 2018, he has pitched to a 2-2 record with a 2.84 ERA and a 40/18 K/BB ratio in 11 games and eight starts in Double-A. Acevedo will likely get another opportunity in the big leagues later this year. Whether it comes as a starter or a reliever, as well as how he fares is unknown.
The New York Yankees are calling up starting pitcher Domingo Acevedo, their No. 7 prospect, according to a source. He'll replace Domingo German in the rotation after the Yanks optioned him after his poor start on Friday. Acevedo was 2-2 with a 2.84 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 7.1 K/9 in 11 outings (eight starts) for Double-A Trenton this year in the minors. The 6-foot-7 right-hander throws gas (high-90s fastball) but may profile better as a reliever in the long term. Take a wait-and-see approach with him in mixed leagues for now.
