White Sox Call Up Pitching Prospect Tanner McDougal on Tuesday

With rosters expanding on Tuesday, the Chicago White Sox called up right-handed pitching prospect Tanner McDougal from Triple-A Charlotte, according to the team. The 23-year-old former fifth-round selection in 2021 made his major-league debut for the Pale Hose on Aug. 13 against the Cincinnati Reds and allowed an earned run on three walks in just one-third of an inning. The team's seventh-ranked prospect, per MLB Pipeline, went 1-2 with a 4.57 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, and 47:27 K:BB in 41 1/3 innings pitched across 22 outings (six starts) for High-A Winston-Salem and Charlotte this year. The 6-foot-5, 185-pounder has not exactly been dominant in the minors in 2026, so he is unlikely to have anything more than a low-leverage role out of the bullpen for the White Sox in his return to the Show in the final month of the regular season. McDougal does feature a high-90s fastball that touches triple digits, and he really knows how to spin his breaking pitches. The pure stuff is intriguing, but McDougal still needs plenty of refinement with his command and control.

Pete Fairbanks Throws Off a Mound on Tuesday

Miami Marlins right-handed reliever Pete Fairbanks (hand) got in some mound work on Tuesday, according to Christina De Nicola of MLB.com. Fairbanks is no lock to return to the Marlins' bullpen to close out the 2026 regular season, as the team is clinging to playoff hopes while back four games of the final National League wild-card spot entering play on Tuesday. The 32-year-old Fairbanks was placed on the 15-day injured list with a recurring nerve issue in his right throwing hand, and he required injections to help him move past the issue. The former ninth-rounder by the Texas Rangers in 2015 from the University of Missouri has been a headache to roster this year for saves, closing out 18 games but also sporting a bloated 6.02 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP with 57 strikeouts in 40 1/3 innings pitched. As long as Fairbanks remains out, the Marlins figure to continue rolling with a closer committee that will primarily involve Calvin Faucher and Michael Petersen. Fairbanks is not a must-roster reliever in the final month of the regular season.

Edwin Diaz Approaching a Rehab Assignment

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said on Tuesday that right-handed reliever Edwin Diaz (neck) will likely throw another live bullpen session in the coming week and then head out on a minor-league rehab assignment, according to Jack Harris of The California Post. Diaz has had a disaster of a 2026 season after signing as a big free-agent addition for the Blue in the offseason to serve as their primary closer. The 32-year-old Puerto Rican veteran has only appeared in 16 games and has gone 2-2 with an 11.85 ERA, 2.56 WHIP, seven saves, 19 strikeouts, and 10 walks in 13 2/3 innings pitched. The three-time All-Star has not looked like himself at all and missed most of the season after having surgery to remove loose bodies from his right elbow. It is believed that Diaz's elbow and neck issues stem from a lowered arm slot this year. When Diaz is reinstated from the 15-day injured list, he is expected to be eased back in lower-leverage situations, which means fantasy managers should not expect much from him the rest of the way. Lefty Tanner Scott is the closer to roster in fantasy leagues to close out the 2026 campaign.

Trey Yesavage to Throw a Bullpen Session on Friday

Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider said that right-hander Trey Yesavage (knee) has been throwing on flat ground and will throw his first bullpen session on Friday, roughly three weeks following knee surgery, according to Hazel Mae of Sportsnet. Yesavage had surgery on Aug. 11 to fix a torn meniscus in his knee, but he has made good progress since and is tracking towards a return before the end of the regular season in September. Toronto is last in the American League East division, but they are just 1.5 games back of the final wild-card spot in the AL, so they still have plenty left to play for in 2026. Although the 23-year-old former first-rounder is still hoping to pitch this year, when/if he returns to the Jays' starting rotation, he might only have a start or two to help fantasy managers out. In his first full year in the majors in 2026, Yesavage has gone 5-5 with a 3.65 ERA (4.07 FIP) and 1.14 WHIP with 91 strikeouts and 46 walks in 93 2/3 innings across 18 starts. Yesavage only made one start in August and struggled the most in five starts in July, posting a 4.81 ERA with 15 walks and 30 strikeouts in 24 1/3 innings pitched.

Carlos Estevez to Have Season-Ending Shoulder Surgery Next Week

Kansas City Royals veteran right-handed reliever Carlos Estevez (shoulder) is set to have season-ending right-shoulder surgery next week, according to Anne Rogers of MLB.com. Estevez had been throwing in Arizona, but he was not progressing much. It is very unlikely that he was going to get back to the Royals this year, but this will officially end his 2026 season and likely his time with the Royals with the club option for 2027. The 33-year-old Dominican hurler officially has a strained rotator cuff in his right shoulder. Estevez, a two-time All-Star who had a league-high 42 saves with the Royals last year, appeared in just one game in 2026, allowing six earned runs in one-third of an inning against the Atlanta Braves on March 28 for a blown save and a loss. His issues started way back in spring training, when his velocity was way down. Estevez actually hit the injured list initially after being hit by a comebacker, and then he suffered a shoulder injury while rehabbing. A bounce-back season could be coming with a new team in 2027, but at this point, we have most likely seen the best that Estevez has to offer as a late-inning reliever.

Riley Greene Reinstated and Starting Against Twins

Detroit Tigers outfielder Riley Greene (hamstring) has been reinstated from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday and is starting in left field and batting cleanup for Tuesday's divisional clash at Target Field against the hosting Minnesota Twins and right-hander Andrew Morris, according to MLB.com. Greene is ready to rejoin the big-league starting nine after going 1-for-6 in two minor-league rehab games. The 25-year-old was placed on the IL back on Aug. 12 with a hamstring strain, but now that he is back, he will look to get back on track for the Tigers and fantasy managers in the final month of the regular season. The former first-rounder hit just .214 (6-for-28) with a homer, a double, an RBI, seven runs scored, three walks, and 12 strikeouts in just eight games in August before his hamstring injury. The three-time All-Star's power has been down after he hit a career-high 36 bombs in 2025. He is returning to a .273/.366/.450 slash line with an .816 OPS, 16 homers, 54 RBI, 65 runs scored, and three stolen bases across 117 games played in 2026. Greene is hitless in just one career at-bat versus Morris.

CJ Abrams Returns From Back Injury on Tuesday

Washington Nationals middle infielder CJ Abrams (back) is starting at shortstop and will bat leadoff in Tuesday's contest at home against the division-rival Atlanta Braves and right-hander A.J. Smith-Shawver, per MLB.com. Abrams, who continues to slowly transition over to second base on defense, was scratched from Monday's series opener against Atlanta with back tightness. He is back a day later, though, and fantasy managers need to get him back into their starting lineups as one of the most productive shortstops in the game this year. The 25-year-old left-handed hitter is slashing .267/.343/.506 this year with an .849 OPS, 29 home runs, 92 RBI, 26 stolen bases, and 81 runs scored across his 498 at-bats in his fourth full season in D.C. August was Abrams' worst month of the year, though, batting .173 (17-for-98) with a .519 OPS, one homer, five doubles, a triple, nine RBI, 12 runs scored, seven steals, seven walks, and 38 strikeouts in 24 games. He will try to turn things around over the final month in September. Abrams has hit .286 with an RBI in seven career at-bats against Smith-Shawver.

Eugenio Suarez to Miss Next Two Games for US Naturalization Test

Cincinnati Reds third baseman Eugenio Suarez will miss the team's next two games to close out the series against the visiting San Diego Padres on Tuesday and Wednesday in order to take the US naturalization test, according to Theo DeRosa of MLB.com. Suarez is a Venezuelan native who makes his home in Miami, and he is seeking US citizenship. The 35-year-old is choosing to remain in the US for good after signing with the Detroit Tigers as an international free agent at the age of 17 in 2008. Suarez has played for the Tigers, Reds, Seattle Mariners, and Arizona Diamondbacks during his 13-year major-league career. The Reds recently put Suarez on outright waivers as a way to get out of paying him his remaining salary for the 2026 season, but there were no takers on waivers, so he is set to close out the year in Cincy. He signed a one-year, $15 million deal with the Reds after hitting 49 home runs last season, but he is currently slashing just .206/.298/.410 with 20 homers and 59 RBI in 2026. Suarez still has pop, but his high rate of swings and misses makes him a major drain on average and on-base percentage.

Adley Rutschman Out With Ongoing Elbow Injury

Boston Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy said on WEEI on Tuesday that catcher Adley Rutschman's (elbow) hyperextended elbow is still an issue and probably will be for the rest of the season, according to Tim Healey of The Boston Globe. Rutschman is out of the starting lineup on Tuesday for the second day in a row against the visiting Seattle Mariners as a result. Connor Wong will do the catching for right-handed rookie Jedixson Paez and will bat ninth against Mariners right-hander Bryan Woo. Rutschman hyperextended his elbow on a swing last week and missed two games. It does not sound like it is an injured list situation for the 28-year-old switch-hitter, but it is not going to help him get back on track offensively to close out what has been a frustrating 2026 campaign for the former first overall pick. Since joining the BoSox from the Orioles at the trade deadline, the three-time All-Star has gone just 9-for-53 (.170) at the plate with a homer, a double, four RBI, five runs scored, six walks, and 15 strikeouts in 15 games played. Overall, he is slashing a disappointing .237/.318/.400 with a .718 OPS, nine homers, 51 RBI, and 35 runs scored in 82 total games.

Justin Wrobleski Back From the Injured List

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced on Tuesday that they reinstated left-hander Justin Wrobleski (forearm) from the 15-day injured list. Wrobleski is back with the Dodgers after being placed on the IL on Aug. 16 with inflammation in his left forearm. The 26-year-old southpaw has been a valuable member of L.A.'s starting rotation this year, going 11-5 with a 3.56 ERA (4.24 FIP) and 1.10 WHIP with a career-high 100 strikeouts and 28 walks in 126 1/3 innings pitched across 21 appearances (20 starts) to earn his first All-Star honors. Unfortunately for fantasy managers who have been stashing him, Wrobleski is expected to head to a relief role to close out the regular season, which will strip him of the majority of his appeal. Wrobleski struggled in his last four starts before landing on the shelf, too, allowing 20 runs (19 earned) on 24 hits (11 home runs) while walking seven and striking out 20 in 19 2/3 innings pitched to go 0-3. He is now rostered in under half of Yahoo leagues, with that number likely to continue dropping now that he will be working out of the bullpen.

Dodgers Activate Catcher Will Smith From Injured List

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced on Tuesday that they activated catchers Will Smith (neck) and Dalton Rushing (elbow) from the injured list on Tuesday. Catcher Ben Rortvedt was designated for assignment in a corresponding move. Smith is finally back from a neck injury that cost him three months, and he went 4-for-16 at the plate with two doubles and a home run in five minor-league rehab games. The Dodgers will likely ease Smith back into the fold with both Rushing and Hunter Feduccia on the roster and capable of splitting time behind the dish. The return of the 31-year-old Smith, a three-time All-Star, definitely makes an already strong Dodgers lineup stronger. He will be looking to turn things around offensively after hitting just .249 (43-for-173) with six home runs, 23 RBI, and 23 runs scored in his first 173 at-bats before he injured his neck. Smith did not look great at the plate earlier this year, but he has the potential to make an impact down the stretch in single-catcher fantasy leagues. He is currently rostered in 69% of Yahoo leagues.

Orioles Calling Up Pitching Prospect Luis De Leon on Tuesday

The Baltimore Orioles are calling up left-handed pitching prospect Luis De Leon with rosters expanding on Tuesday, a source told Andy Kostka of The Baltimore Banner. It will be De Leon's major-league debut once he appears in a game. The 23-year-old southpaw has big stuff and was converted from a starting role to a relief role recently. The Dominican hurler, who is considered the O's No. 7 overall prospect at MLB Pipeline, has gone 6-6 this year with a 4.73 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, and 121:53 K:BB in 99 innings across 26 appearances (22 starts) at Double-A Chesapeake and Triple-A Norfolk. In seven outings (three starts) at Norfolk, De Leon has allowed 14 runs (13 earned) with 11 walks and 21 strikeouts in 18 innings pitched, so although he has big stuff on the mound, he has not been dominant by any means. The 6-foot-3, 168-pounder induces plenty of ground balls thanks to a plus sinker. In addition to his sinker, De Leon features a four-seam fastball, slider, changeup, and splitter. His deep arsenal makes him tough to square up, but if his command does not improve, he will struggle mightily in his first taste of the big leagues in September.

Ralphy Velazquez Nearing MLB Debut?

Cleveland Guardians first base/outfield prospect Ralphy Velazquez capped off a scorching August by getting on base three times on Sunday, going 1-for-3 with a single and two walks. The Guardians' second-ranked prospect hit .356 in August with an otherworldly 1.299 OPS and 15 home runs in 23 games. The effort pushed his slash line at Triple-A to .281/.364/.551 with 21 home runs in 75 games for the Clippers while striking out at a better-than-average rate of 20.8 percent. The former first-round draft pick looks ready to put his power on display in the majors, and could give Cleveland a much-needed offensive boost (4.07 runs/per game, third-worst). The left-handed hitter could get his chance now that the calendar has turned to September and rosters expand. With the kind of power in his bat, the 21-year-old is one of the top stashes for home runs and could provide a decent average along with ample RBI as well down the stretch.

Franklin Arias a Late-Season Stash Option With Upside

Boston Red Sox infield prospect Franklin Arias continues to hold his own at Triple-A Worcester, collecting at least one hit in 10 of the last 11 games he's started, going 13-for-45 (.288) over that stretch, including four doubles and a home run while striking out at just a 13.5 percent rate. After hitting .318 with 19 home runs at Double-A, Boston's top prospect is now slashing .290/.350/.467 with four home runs in 28 games at Triple-A, with a low 17.8 percent strikeout rate (76th percentile). The 5-foot-11 Venezuelan has moved all the way up to the No. 3 prospect in all of baseball per MLB.com, and is knocking on the door to the majors with a shot at debuting this season. The right-handed hitter is not on the 40-man roster, which doesn't help his chances, and the return of Trevor Story and Isiah Kiner-Falefa in the last couple of days has made the infield even more crowded, but whether it is this season or next, redraft managers should be familiar with the name. Proactive managers could consider Arias a speculative stash in hopes of a 2026 debut, with plenty of skills to be fantasy-relevant if called up.

Michael Arroyo Could be Next Mariners Prospect to Debut

Seattle Mariners infield/outfield prospect Michael Arroyo cooled after a hot start to his Triple-A campaign, but is heating up again for Tacoma, going 8-for-26 (.308) with a double, a triple, a home run, one stolen base, and a 3:4 BB:K over his last seven games for the Rainiers. It brings the slash line to .271/.349/.481 for the Mariners' top offensive prospect, with eight home runs and three steals in 44 games since being promoted to Triple-A in early July (18 home runs, 16 steals in 109 games including Double-A). The jump to the higher level has not fazed him, with virtually identical strikeout (16.7 percent) and walk rates (8.1 percent), along with a 10-point improvement in OPS (.830). The Mariners have aggressively promoted other top prospects this season, with Colt Emerson, Kade Anderson, and Lazaro Montes all making their debuts in 2026, and Arroyo could be next in line. With solid hit, power, and speed tools, the 21-year-old possesses a solid all-around skill set that could make him a sneaky fantasy option down the stretch if he were to get regular at-bats, making him a stash-worthy option in deeper 12+ team leagues.

San Francisco Giants outfield prospect Bo Davidson closed August with a bang, going 2-for-3 with a walk, a home run, five RBI, and two runs scored on Sunday for Triple-A Sacramento. Since getting promoted in mid-July, the 6-foot-1 slugger has looked quite comfortable, slashing .290/.374/.497 while cutting his strikeout rate from 23.5 percent to 16.8 percent and producing some impressive exit velocity (EV), with his average EV sitting at 91.7 mph, which is good for 91st percentile. The 24-year-old has made the case for a late-season debut, and with 26 home runs on the year across two levels and 19 steals to boot, he could add a bit of power and speed to fantasy managers' teams down the stretch if called upon, making the left-handed hitter a worthy stash option in deeper 12+ team leagues.

Seaver King Stays Hot, Adds Some Positional Versatility

Washington Nationals infield prospect Seaver King homered in his latest game this past Sunday, now hitting .340 with a 1.077 OPS, nine home runs, and five stolen bases in 26 games since his return from the injured list on July 30. The Nats' fourth-ranked prospect is now slashing .304/.378/.536 with 14 home runs and nine steals at Triple-A Rochester in 59 games since earning a promotion to the minors' highest level in mid-May. Impressive as he's been, the organization has already stated that they don't intend to promote him to the big-league club this year, but that hasn't stopped them from preparing him to be with the team next season, as the former first-rounder manned third base for the first time in his career two weeks ago, and did so for a second time last week. The 23-year-old can be left on the waiver wire in redraft leagues, but his dynasty stock has helium, and with multiple pathways to the majors (including shortstop and second base), he could have an impact early next year.

Charlie Condon Remains a Worthy Power Bat to Stash

Colorado Rockies corner infield/outfield prospect Charlie Condon had a productive week last week at Triple-A Albuquerque, going 7-for-19 (.368) with a pair of doubles, four RBI, six runs scored, and a 4:3 BB:K during a five-game hit streak. The Rockies' third-ranked prospect is slashing a solid .271/.390/.506 with 22 home runs this season for the Isotopes, but to date, has yet to earn a call-up to the majors. Though his strikeout rate is a bit on the high side at 24.7 percent (40th percentile), the former first-rounder doesn't chase much (19.6 percent, 91st percentile), which helps him draw walks at a 12.9 percent clip (70th percentile), which is something that should translate to the big leagues. But with a healthy, productive big-league outfield and corner infielders, it seems there has simply been no room for him, especially given that the 23-year-old is not on the 40-man roster. Still, the 6-foot-4 slugger possesses big power, and the team likely wants to see how he handles major league pitching before next season, so in anticipation of an eventual call-up, he remains one of the top stash options for managers looking for some power production down the stretch.

Orioles Call Up Heston Kjerstad With Rosters Expanding

The Baltimore Orioles are calling up outfielder Heston Kjerstad on Tuesday with MLB rosters expanding, a source with direct knowledge told Andy Kostka of The Baltimore Banner. Kjerstad hit .289 with a .799 on-base-plus-slugging percentage at Triple-A Norfolk this year and has hit .301 with an .889 OPS since July. When Kjerstad gets into a game for the O's, it will be his season debut in the big leagues in 2026. The former first-rounder from Arkansas had his development delayed when he was diagnosed with myocarditis in 2024 before suffering a concussion when he was hit in the helmet by a pitch. Kjerstad also missed most of 2025, although the circumstances around that are murky. It is unclear how much Kjerstad will play in his return to Baltimore, but he could be especially valuable against right-handed pitchers. The 27-year-old left-handed-hitting outfielder has combined to hit just .218/.284/.365 with a .649 OPS, 10 homers, 36 RBI, 18 walks, and 88 strikeouts in 106 games across 314 plate appearances in Baltimore since making his major-league debut in 2023.

Nationals Promote Yohandy Morales After Strong Showing at Triple-A

The Washington Nationals called up corner-infield prospect Yohandy Morales from Triple-A Rochester with rosters expanding on Tuesday, Sept. 1, sources told Francys Romero. The 24-year-old former second-round pick in 2023 from the University of Miami gets his first call to the big leagues after hitting .286/.363/.519 with an .881 OPS, 25 home runs, 76 RBI, 82 runs scored, and six stolen bases in 104 games across 455 plate appearances for Rochester this year. Morales is not listed among the team's top-30 prospects at MLB Pipeline, but his strong season could not be ignored with rosters expanding for the final month of the season in September. He has experience at first and third base, and the Nats could also use him as a designated hitter, giving him multiple avenues to playing time to close out the season. Fantasy managers in deeper leagues may want to give Morales a look off the waiver wire for power to see if he can continue his strong 2026 season at the major-league level.
