George Klassen Recalled To Start Friday Against Marlins

Los Angeles Angels right-handed pitcher George Klassen was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday and will start against the Miami Marlins. The 24-year-old gets another shot after a difficult two-start stint in April, when he allowed six earned runs and walked 10 batters in just 4 2/3 innings. Klassen has been much better since returning to Salt Lake, particularly in July. He posted a 2.48 ERA and 0.99 WHIP with 38 strikeouts across 36 1/3 innings and was named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Month. The strikeouts led the PCL during that stretch. Klassen's first trip to the majors showed how quickly his control can unravel, but his recent run makes this return worth watching. He is a risky streamer for Friday and more of a deep-league option until he shows he can throw enough strikes against major-league hitters.

George Klassen Could Come Through as a Late-Season Stash

Los Angeles Angels pitching prospect George Klassen has had solid success with Triple-A Salt Lake this season, pitching to a 6-6 record with a 3.96 ERA and a 1.42 WHIP to go with 88 strikeouts in 91 innings pitched. Klassen's strikeout rate is a bit underwhelming but he has a decent record and solid ERA and WHIP. The right-hander is ranked as the No. 10 prospect in the Angels' system. The 24-year-old has the experience necessary to pitch at the major league level if given an opportunity. He has a 70-grade fastball with two 55-grade secondary pitches in his curveball and slider. The Angels seem to have an opening in their rotation and could look toward Klassen's power arm to fill that spot. He needs to improve his strikeout rate for fantasy purposes but he is an arm that is worth taking a chance on in deep leagues.

George Klassen Seeing Stash Value Increase as MLB Promotion Approaches

Los Angeles Angels starting pitching prospect George Klassen is emerging as a deep-league stash target. In his most recent outing for Salt Lake, the No. 4-ranked prospect in the system tallied a season-high 11 strikeouts over six innings of one-run ball. This was a nice bounce-back outing from Klassen as he allowed four runs in his previous start against Sacramento. The former sixth-round selection made his MLB debut earlier this season but stumbled, allowing six earned runs (seven total runs) over just 4 2/3 innings. Through 78 1/3 total innings at Triple-A, Klassen has carried a modest 4.25 ERA with a 1.47 WHIP. However, seeing him begin to turn the corner is a positive sign and suggests his second stint in the majors could be far more productive. For now, he is worth monitoring in deeper 12+ team formats.

George Klassen Firmly on Stash Radar After 11-Punchout Effort

Los Angeles Angels pitching prospect George Klassen turned in his best outing of the season on Sunday, punching out 11 of the 23 batters he faced over six innings, yielding just one earned run on two hits and three walks. It comes on the heels of arguably his worst outing of the season, in which he allowed four earned runs on six hits and three walks over 4 1/3 innings of work while failing to strike out a single batter. The up-and-down season has led to a mediocre 4.25 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, and an 8.5 percent K-BB%, but an 11-strikeout performance should put him back on the stash radar for fantasy. If the Angels' fourth-ranked prospect can string together a couple of good performances, he could be back in the big leagues by mid-August, so it's worth monitoring his progress from here.

George Klassen is a Risky Stash to Target Entering Second Half

Los Angeles Angels pitching prospect George Klassen has endured some growing pains over his first two MLB starts. He is saddled with an 0-1 record, a 11.57 ERA, and a 3.64 WHIP. Klassen is doing his best to prove that he is worth another shot with the Angels while pitching with Triple-A Salt Lake. The numbers are much more respectable at Salt Lake with a 4-6 record and a 4.48 ERA and 1.52 WHIP, along with 64 strikeouts in 72 1/3 innings. However, he has shown some progress in July, carrying a 3.06 ERA and a sharp 0.96 WHIP. Should Klassen continue to prove himself at Salt Lake, he could find his way into the Angels rotation. It's a risky play, but a stash could end up being beneficial for fantasy managers looking for a pitching edge. As of now, the former sixth-round selection is best viewed as a risky stash target in deeper leagues.

Is George Klassen a Stash Option Despite Control Issues?

Los Angeles Angels pitching prospect George Klassen's first half ended with a thud after allowing four earned runs on six hits and three walks while failing to strike out even a single batter in his last outing before the break. While the right-hander had been able to limit damage over his previous eight starts, pitching to a 2.27 ERA in 43 2/3 innings pitched, walks still plagued him for much of that run, conceding at least four walks in five of those eight contests. For the season, the Angels' fourth-ranked prospect has recorded a 4.48 ERA, 1.52 WHIP, and a lowly 6.6 percent K-BB% across 16 starts. The 6-foot-2 hurler already debuted with the team earlier this season without much success, yielding six earned runs on seven hits and 10 walks in just 4 2/3 IP (six strikeouts). The 24-year-old will likely get another shot in the majors this season, and if he can get his command under control, his fantasy outlook may improve. Until then, however, he's a risky speculative stash for pitching-needy managers in deeper 12+ team leagues.

George Klassen Getting Back on Track, Will He Return to the Majors Soon?

Los Angeles Angels pitching prospect George Klassen has begun to right the ship at Triple-A, pitching to a 2.67 ERA and 1.38 WHIP over his last six starts. The walk rate remained elevated over that time at 14.5 percent, but the right-hander was able to strand runners at an 85.7 percent rate thanks to an opponent batting average of just .205. The season-long numbers don't look as good, with a 4.94 ERA (5.71 FIP), 1.70 WHIP, opponent batting average of .265, and a lowly 5.9 percent K-BB%, but things look like they are headed in the right direction. The Angels' fourth-ranked prospect debuted with the team back in April of this year, but was roughed up for six earned runs in 4 2/3 innings pitched (11.57 ERA) and he walked more batters (10) than he struck out (six), so the team may want to see some additional development in his command before another promotion. Nevertheless, the 24-year-old should be in the mix for another shot in the second half, and managers in deep 12+ team leagues could begin to consider stashing him ahead of that time.

George Klassen Struggles to Command Pitches in MLB Debut

Los Angeles Angels right-handed pitching prospect George Klassen showed some upside in his MLB debut on Sunday, but struggled to enjoy much consistency. Over a brief 2 2/3-inning outing facing the Mariners, Klassen would allow three hits, two earned runs, and allow a hefty five free passes. However, he would strike out four hitters. Much of his trouble came in the second frame when Leo Rivas hit a two-run single that scored outfielder Randy Arozarena and second baseman Cole Young. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status in the upcoming week, as the Angels may provide him another turn in the MLB rotation. Last summer, he spent most of his time at Double-A, logging 102 2/3 innings to the tune of a 5.35 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP. Given his shaky debut, managers should only consider adding Klassen in deeper 15-team leagues.

George Klassen Called Up to Start on Sunday

The Los Angeles Angels have selected the contract of right-handed pitching prospect George Klassen. He will be the Halos' starting pitcher on Sunday, making his MLB debut against the Seattle Mariners. Klassen was the Phillies' sixth-round pick in 2023, but he made his way to the Angels organization via trade in 2024. He posted an impressive 3.29 FIP and 11.05 K/9 at Double-A last year, but he did have an issue with walks. He was roughed up with a 7.94 FIP over 14 innings in spring training, but he posted a solid 4.2-inning start in Triple-A last week. He'll start for the Angels on Sunday after Ryan Johnson (illness) was scratched. Klassen throws an upper-90s fastball and puts effective break behind both his slider and cutter. It will be interesting to watch how his stuff plays against a star-studded Seattle lineup featuring Julio Rodriguez and Cal Raleigh.

Angels Reassign George Klassen to Minor-League Camp

The Los Angeles Angels announced on Friday that they optioned right-handed pitching prospect George Klassen to minor-league camp. Klassen, the team's No. 5 prospect per MLB Pipeline, allowed five earned runs on nine hits (three homers) while walking five and striking out 10 in 11 2/3 innings over his four Cactus League appearances. At Double-A Rocket City and Triple-A Salt Lake in 2025, Klassen had a 5.22 ERA and 1.46 WHIP with 134 strikeouts and 47 walks in 108 2/3 innings over 25 starts. The 24-year-old right-hander has some intriguing stuff with a dominant fastball and a couple of nasty breaking pitches, but the Angels want to see him have some more success on the farm before they bring him up to the big-league starting rotation. It was encouraging to see Klassen cut his walk rate last year as well. He's a power pitcher with a heater that reaches triple digits. Klassen should make his major-league debut in 2026, but for now, he's a high-upside pitching stash in AL-only and keeper leagues.
