Gleyber Torres Clear to Return on Monday

Detroit Tigers second baseman Gleyber Torres (back) "will be good to go" for Monday's Grapefruit League contest against the Colorado Rockies, according to Rogelio Castillo of Tigers ML Report. Torres had been scratched from the Tigers' lineup on Saturday due to lower back tightness, but it sounds like the injury isn't serious and won't require him to miss any additional time. All in all, this bodes well for Torres' availability on Opening Day against the San Diego Padres. He has been a productive hitter for the entirety of his MLB career, including 2025, when he slashed .256/.358/.387 with 16 homers, a 13.5% walk rate, a 16.1% strikeout rate, and 113 wRC+. In addition to being the Tigers' starting second baseman, Torres projects as the club's No. 2 hitter this year.

Gleyber Torres Scratched From Lineup on Saturday With Lower-Back Tightness

Detroit Tigers second baseman Gleyber Torres (back) has been scratched from the team's lineup for its Saturday matchup against the New York Yankees due to lower-back tightness, per Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic. While the team could just be playing it safe, it's not a great sign that Torres is dealing with an ailment this close to Opening Day. The 29-year-old logged 628 plate appearances with the Tigers in 2025, hitting .256/.358/.387 with 16 home runs, 74 RBI, 79 runs scored, and four stolen bases. However, Torres' production dropped off in the second half of the year, as he logged a .659 OPS in the second half while playing through an injury that required sports hernia surgery after Detroit was eliminated from the postseason. Even if Torres can avoid missing time with this back issue, his performance could be something for fantasy managers to closely monitor early in 2026. Should Torres require a stint on the Injured List, Javier Baez and Zach McKinstry could be the favorites to cover second base, and top infield prospect Kevin McGonigle could be assured of an Opening Day roster spot.

Gleyber Torres Should be Good to Go for Opening Day

Detroit Tigers second baseman Gleyber Torres (groin) should be ready to go on Opening Day this year after the Detroit Free Press' Evan Petzold reported in December that Torres had been cleared for all baseball activities. The 29-year-old had sports-hernia surgery in October after playing injured in the final month of the regular season and into the playoffs. He accepted the team's one-year, $22.025 million qualifying offer for the 2026 campaign and will reprise his role as the team's starting second baseman as they look to get back to the postseason. In his first year in Motown, the Venezuelan infielder was named an All-Star for the third time in his career while hitting .256/.358/.387 with a .745 OPS, 16 home runs, 74 RBI, 79 runs, and four stolen bases in 145 regular-season contests. Torres doesn't have a high ceiling in fantasy, but he should have a stable floor in an improved Tigers lineup. RotoBaller has him ranked as the No. 22 fantasy second baseman.

Gleyber Torres Accepts Tigers Qualifying Offer

Second baseman Gleyber Torres has accepted the Detroit Tigers' one-year, $22.025 million qualifying offer, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. It's a pretty decent and deserving raise for Torres after he made $15 million in his first year in Motown in 2025. The 28-year-old had sports hernia surgery last month, but he's expected to be ready for the start of spring training in February. Plate discipline was Torres' specialty this year, and it helped him to the third All-Star selection of his career, and the first since his second year in the big leagues with the New York Yankees. In 145 regular-season games, he slashed .256/.358/.387 with a .745 OPS, 16 home runs, 74 RBI, 79 runs scored, and four stolen bases in 628 plate appearances. Torres was a nice fit for the Tigers this year, but he's now had back-to-back seasons of fewer than 20 homers, and fantasy managers definitely shouldn't count on him ever returning to the 30-homer mark like he did back in 2019.

Gleyber Torres Undergoes Sports-Hernia Surgery

Detroit Tigers second baseman Gleyber Torres (hernia) had surgery on Friday to fix a sports hernia on his left side, according to Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press. Torres is expected to be cleared for baseball activities in four weeks, so he'll be ready to go for the start of spring training in February and the regular season in 2026. The 28-year-old Venezuelan infielder played through his sports hernia in the final month of the regular season and during the playoffs. Torres was an All-Star for the third time in his career in 2025 in his first year in Motown, slashing .256/.358/.387 with a .745 OPS, 16 home runs, 74 RBI, 79 runs scored, and four stolen bases in his 628 plate appearances. He only signed a one-year deal with the Tigers last offseason, though, so he might be one and done with the Tigers, unless they decide to re-sign him.

Gleyber Torres Will Undergo Surgery to Repair Sports Hernia

Detroit Tigers second baseman Gleyber Torres (hernia) is planning to undergo sports-hernia surgery now that his team's season has come to a close, per Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic. Torres reportedly said he had been playing through the injury for the past month. The 28-year-old is entering free agency this winter after posting a .256/.358/.387 slash line with 16 home runs, 74 RBI, 79 runs, and four stolen bases across 628 plate appearances this season for Detroit. He hit just .209/.317/.314 over his final 101 plate appearances of the regular season, so this injury was likely impacting his performance. Sports hernia surgeries do not usually require an extended recovery timeline, so Torres should be ready to go by the time 2026 Spring Training rolls around.

Gleyber Torres Back in Lineup

Detroit Tigers second baseman Gleyber Torres (forearm) is back in the lineup Wednesday and hitting second against Minnesota Twins right-hander Pierson Ohl. Torres missed the Tigers' 6-3 loss to the Twins on Tuesday with a forearm issue, and manager A.J. Hinch said afterward that he's dealing with "some general soreness." It won't be enough to keep Torres out of the lineup for a second straight day, though. The three-time All-Star is hitting .273/.370/.426 with 13 homers, 55 RBI, 58 runs scored, and four steals in 430 plate appearances.

Gleyber Torres Scratched from Tuesday's Lineup

Detroit Tigers second baseman Gleyber Torres (forearm) was scratched from the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Minnesota Twins. This seems like a precautionary decision considering there was no word of Torres dealing with any injuries coming into this game. There should be more information on his status later. For now, fantasy managers should consider Torres as day-to-day. Zach McKinstry will slide over to second base and bat seventh versus right-hander Zebby Matthews. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups accordingly.

Gleyber Torres Available to Pinch-Hit Sunday

Detroit Tigers second baseman Gleyber Torres (neck) is out of the lineup against the Cleveland Guardians on Sunday. Torres left Saturday's 1-0 win early with a neck contusion. The good news is that it's not a significant injury, as Torres expects to be available to pinch-hit Sunday if the Tigers need him. The former Yankee, 28, has been a key part of Detroit's lineup in his first year with the team. He's slashing .279/.387/.424 with nine homers, 44 RBI, 46 runs scored, and four stolen bases over 331 plate appearances. Colt Keith will take Torres' place at the keystone on Sunday.

Gleyber Torres Dealing with Neck Contusion

Detroit Tigers infielder Gleyber Torres (neck) was forced to make an early exit from Saturday's game against the Cleveland Guardians. Torres was removed from the game after getting elbowed in the neck while sliding into second base. The Tigers are calling it a neck contusion, but Torres might get evaluated for a concussion. For now, Torres is considered day-to-day, which means he might miss a game or two. Before exiting Saturday's game, Torres was hitless and walked in his lone at-bat. Trey Sweeney took over for Baez and figures to see more playing time if Baez misses any time.
