Ian Seymour to Start on Monday

Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Ian Seymour will take the mound for Monday's game against the Cleveland Guardians. The Rays have decided to push back Shane Baz another day in an effort to give him extra rest. Seymour is set to take the vacant rotation spot left by Joe Boyle who was optioned to the minors earlier this week. Seymour has a 3.86 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and a 26/8 K/BB ratio across 12 appearances this season. The southpaw hasn't made any starts in the MLB, but was a full-time starter in Triple-A. He'll offer some low-end streaming appeal for Monday's slate

Ian Seymour, Joe Rock Promoted to Major Leagues

The Tampa Bay Rays promoted left-handed pitching prospects Ian Seymour and Joe Rock to the major leagues. Seymour made his MLB debut earlier this season and was quite effective during his first taste, posting a 1.69 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP through 10 2/3 innings. He has spent most of his time with Triple-A Durham and has flashed high strikeout upside, tallying 104 strikeouts across 86 innings of work. Rock has logged two innings in the major leagues this season and allowed two runs and four hits. Through 81 2/3 innings with the Durham Bulls, Rock posted a modest 4.63 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP. He tallied only 71 strikeouts and allowed 33 walks. With Zack Littell now in Cincinnati, Seymour could have an opportunity to start, while Rock will likely shift to the bullpen.

Ian Seymour Tosses Six Innings of One-Run Ball

Tampa Bay Rays left-handed pitching prospect Ian Seymour tossed six innings of one-run ball en route to picking up the victory over Triple-A Memphis on Thursday evening. In this outing, Seymour struck out five batters and allowed only six hits and no walks. This was Seymour's fourth-straight start earning a victory at Triple-A. During these four outings, Seymour has logged 25 2/3 innings of work to the tune of a 1.78 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP. During this stretch, the left-hander has struck out 21 batters and allowed only five walks. Seymour made his MLB debut earlier in June as well, but only made one appearance. He was deployed in a long relief role and logged two innings of one-run ball (unearned run) en route to earning a victory. Given his elite production in Triple-A this season, Seymour should be in the mix to return to Tampa Bay in the second half.

Ian Seymour Strikes Out Two, Picks Up Win in Debut

Tampa Bay Rays pitching prospect Ian Seymour made his MLB Debut on Monday, coming on in the 10th inning of the team's 10-8 win over the Red Sox in extras. The lefty allowed one unearned run on an error by first baseman Jonathan Aranda, while walking two (one intentional) and striking out two in the two-inning outing. He did not allow a hit in nine batters faced, and because the Rays would take the lead in the top of the 11th and go on to be victorious with Seymour on the mound, the Rays' 19th-ranked prospect would end up as the winning pitcher in the contest. The 26-year-old could be a ratio-enhancer if he ends up sticking around, especially with his strikeout ability, but offers little more fantasy relevance without a closing role.

Ian Seymour Called Up from Triple-A Durham

Tampa Bay Rays pitching prospect Ian Seymour has been called up from Triple-A Durham in order to provide some relief to a heavily taxed bullpen. The Rays' 19th-ranked prospect is a logical option due to the fact that he is already on the 40-man roster, and although he has been working as a starter in the minors, the lefty has superb strikeout stuff that has helped him to 84 punchouts in only 61 innings pitched. The 84 strikeouts are the most of any minor league pitcher, coming with a 2.95 ERA and 1.20 WHIP. Not being a closing option or a starter and without any certainty how long he'll be with the team, there's little reason to roster the southpaw on most fantasy squads, but if a rotation spot were to open up, Seymour would be a solid add on his strikeout upside alone in deeper leagues. Cole Sulser was optioned to Durham in a corresponding move.

Ian Seymour Strikes Out Six on Tuesday

Tampa Bay Rays pitching prospect Ian Seymour got back on track on Tuesday for Triple-A Durham, allowing one earned run on six hits and no walks while striking out six batters over six innings of work. The former second-round draft pick hit a rough patch over his last three starts before Tuesday, allowing 10 earned runs in 13 2/3 IP (6.59 ERA), although there were still strikeouts aplenty, tallying 23 of them during that stretch. The southpaw leads all minor league pitchers in strikeouts with 84 on the season, and after Tuesday's outing, the 26-year-old owns a 2.95 ERA with a 1.20 WHIP through 61 innings. Seymour could be in the big leagues within the next couple of months, and would be a worthy waiver add in deeper and AL-only leagues for the strikeout upside.

Ian Seymour Leading Triple-A In Strikeouts

Tampa Bay Rays pitching prospect Ian Seymour allowed two earned runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out nine in his latest start at Triple-A Durham this past Saturday. The southpaw leads Triple-A pitchers in strikeouts with 55 on the season, good for a 32.5 percent strikeout rate. Paired with good command -- walking batters at just a 5.9 percent rate -- the 26-year-old boasts a 26.6 percent K-BB% with a 1.96 ERA and 1.09 WHIP through seven starts (eight appearances, 41 1/3 IP). Owning a 2.42 career ERA in the minors with ever-present strikeout stuff (career 31.2 percent), the lefty appears to be closer than ever to a major league debut. Managers looking for ratio help should consider picking up the Rays' 19th-ranked prospect whenever he gets the call.

Ian Seymour Punches Out Eight In Latest Start

Tampa Bay Rays left-handed pitching prospect Ian Seymour struck out eight batters across five innings of two-run ball in his start on Sunday against Triple-A Jacksonville. In this outing, Seymour allowed just two hits, two runs (zero earned), and did not allow a free pass. This was the fourth time this season that the southpaw struck out at least eight batters in a given start. The Virginia Tech product has enjoyed an impressive start to the Triple-A regular season and is knocking on the MLB door. Through his first 36 1/3 innings of work, Seymour has struck out 46 batters, allowed just eight walks, and posted a strong 1.73 ERA with a 0.99 WHIP. Last summer at Triple-A, Seymour posted a 2.33 ERA with a 1.15 WHIP across 54 innings. Given his current production, he is worth stashing in deeper 12+ team formats due to his strikeout potential.

Ian Seymour Strikes Out Nine Across Five Innings

Tampa Bay Rays left-handed pitching prospect Ian Seymour continued his impressive start to the Triple-A campaign as he logged 5 1/3 innings of one-run ball on Tuesday in his outing against Nashville. In this start, Seymour allowed just four hits and three walks. He struck out nine batters. This was his third time this season tallying at least eight punchouts in a single start. Through 25 1/3 innings of work (five starts), the former second-round pick has held a 2.49 ERA with a 1.18 WHIP. Seymour has posted an impressive 35:7 K:BB but has struggled to keep the ball in the yard, as he has allowed four long balls. Seymour made his Triple-A debut last season and held a similar 2.33 ERA with a 1.15 WHIP across 54 innings of work. Fantasy managers in deeper AL-only formats should consider stashing Seymour, as he appears to be nearing his MLB debut given his increasing strikeout production.

Ian Seymour Strikes Out 10 In Loss

Tampa Bay Rays pitching prospect Ian Seymour matched a career-high as he struck out 10 batters during Thursday's contest against the Sugar Land Space Cowboys. However, Seymour took a hard-luck loss as he served up just one run and three hits. His lone blemish came on a Brice Matthews RBI triple in the second frame. Last season, he posted two 10-strikeout performances, one with Double-A Montgomery and the other with Triple-A Durham. Through his first two outings of the campaign, Seymour is enjoying a strong start at Triple-A as he has tossed 10 innings of one-run ball with a stellar 1:15 BB:K. Last summer, the Virginia Tech product made his Triple-A debut and logged 54 innings at that level with a 2.33 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP. He is a name to closely monitor as he could be approaching his MLB debut, especially if Shane McClanahan (triceps) misses an extended period of the regular season.
