Ian Seymour a High-Upside Starting Pitching Target on the Waiver Wire

After opening 2026 as a reliever, Tampa Bay Rays left-hander Ian Seymour was moved into more of a bulk role in early June. While Seymour has not exclusively operated as a full-time starting pitcher, he's thrown at least three innings in each of his last 10 outings, making six starts in that span. Across those 10 appearances, Seymour has recorded a 3-2 record with a 4.22 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and 53 strikeouts. The 27-year-old has posted an impressive 28.1% strikeout rate and a 19.3% K-BB rate for the season. His inflated ERA is a symptom of his abnormally low 66.5% strand rate, which could regress closer to the mean over a larger sample size of innings. Now that he's a threat to rack up wins on a regular basis, Seymour could be worth targeting on the waiver wire.

Ian Seymour Emerging as a Breakout Candidate to Target on the Waiver Wire

Across 64 2/3 innings (33 games) in 2026, Tampa Bay Rays left-hander Ian Seymour has recorded a 6-2 record with a 4.59 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and 75 strikeouts. The 27-year-old opened the year in a traditional relief role, but he's been operating as a starter or bulk reliever since early June. Seymour has demonstrated intriguing swing-and-miss upside overall this season, posting a 27.8% strikeout rate. He's been even better since moving into his current role, recording a 30.9% strikeout rate over his last seven outings (33 2/3 innings). While Seymour's ERA is a bit elevated, he's been hurt by an abnormally low 66.2% strand rate. If the left-hander can do a better job of getting out of jams in the second half of the season, he could be a major value-add for fantasy managers to target on the waiver wire.

Ian Seymour a Strikeout-Upside Waiver Addition After 12-K Outing?

Tampa Bay Rays left-handed pitcher Ian Seymour is not just a short-term streamer after what he did to the New York Yankees. The 27-year-old is 6-1 with a 4.11 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, 72 strikeouts, and two saves over 61 1/3 innings, and his role has become a lot more interesting after opening the season in the bullpen. Seymour struck out a career-high 12 Yankees on Tuesday, allowing three earned runs over 5 1/3 innings with no walks. The ERA is not pretty enough to make him a safe ratio arm, but the strikeouts are real. Seymour owns a 28.7% strikeout rate, 3.22 xERA, .280 xwOBA allowed, and 36.1% hard-hit rate, which gives the profile more support than the surface ERA shows. Yahoo managers have already pushed him to 51% rostered, but RotoBaller still lists him as an add in 10-team leagues.

Ian Seymour Continues to Impress as a Starter, Fans 12 on Tuesday

Tampa Bay Rays left-hander Ian Seymour had another impressive start on Tuesday against the division-rival New York Yankees after he opened the season in the Rays' bullpen. Seymour allowed three earned runs on five hits (one homer) while walking none and striking out a career-high 12 batters in 5 1/3 innings for his sixth win of the season. The 27-year-old former second-rounder in 2020 out of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University entered Tuesday's appearance with a 4.02 ERA (4.11 FIP) and 1.09 WHIP with two saves, 60 strikeouts, and 21 walks in 56 innings over 31 appearances (four starts) in his second year in the majors with Tampa. All of the runs that Seymour allowed on Tuesday came on a three-run homer by Ben Rice. He also generated 17 swings and misses on 94 pitches. In his four starts and two bulk relief appearances, Seymour has a 2.97 ERA while going at least five innings in his last four outings. Seymour is quickly generating waiver-wire interest in his transition to a starting role, and he's rostered in just under half of Yahoo leagues. His final start of the first half is scheduled to come this weekend against the Seattle Mariners.

Ian Seymour Strikes Out Six in Stellar Bulk Outing

Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Ian Seymour was dominant on the mound during Thursday's outing against the Kansas City Royals. He came into the game after Casey Legumina retired the first four batters of the game. Seymour would toss 6.2 hitless innings while striking out seven batters along the way. Since moving to the bullpen, Seymour owns a 2.84 ERA, 0.84 WHIP, and a 19/5 K/BB ratio in 19 innings. The southpaw figures to remain in this role moving forward. His excellent K/BB numbers in his role make him an appealing fantasy option at the moment. Seymour could be someone worth scooping up in deep leagues at the minimum.

Is Ian Seymour Stepping Up as a Potential Stash Candidate?

Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher/relief pitcher Ian Seymour seems to be moving towards a transition to a spot in the starting rotation after beginning the year in the bullpen. He has a 4.93 ERA and 4.64 FIP in his 38 1/3 innings this season, but his xERA is only 3.54, indicating he has had some below-average contact luck. He has 41 strikeouts in 38 1/3 innings, and his 25% K% is enough to give him an intriguing upside. The 27-year-old lefty started against the Red Sox last Monday and went four innings, giving up just one run. On Sunday, he came in after an opener and worked 3 1/3 innings against the Angels, allowing two runs on two hits and three walks. He'll need to improve his control and efficiency as he stretches back out, but his strikeout upside makes him worth stashing in deep leagues if the Rays continue to position him to pitch as a starter or a predictable primary reliever going forward.

Ian Seymour to Start on Monday

Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Ian Seymour will take the mound for Monday's game against the Cleveland Guardians. The Rays have decided to push back Shane Baz another day in an effort to give him extra rest. Seymour is set to take the vacant rotation spot left by Joe Boyle who was optioned to the minors earlier this week. Seymour has a 3.86 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and a 26/8 K/BB ratio across 12 appearances this season. The southpaw hasn't made any starts in the MLB, but was a full-time starter in Triple-A. He'll offer some low-end streaming appeal for Monday's slate

Ian Seymour, Joe Rock Promoted to Major Leagues

The Tampa Bay Rays promoted left-handed pitching prospects Ian Seymour and Joe Rock to the major leagues. Seymour made his MLB debut earlier this season and was quite effective during his first taste, posting a 1.69 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP through 10 2/3 innings. He has spent most of his time with Triple-A Durham and has flashed high strikeout upside, tallying 104 strikeouts across 86 innings of work. Rock has logged two innings in the major leagues this season and allowed two runs and four hits. Through 81 2/3 innings with the Durham Bulls, Rock posted a modest 4.63 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP. He tallied only 71 strikeouts and allowed 33 walks. With Zack Littell now in Cincinnati, Seymour could have an opportunity to start, while Rock will likely shift to the bullpen.

Ian Seymour Tosses Six Innings of One-Run Ball

Tampa Bay Rays left-handed pitching prospect Ian Seymour tossed six innings of one-run ball en route to picking up the victory over Triple-A Memphis on Thursday evening. In this outing, Seymour struck out five batters and allowed only six hits and no walks. This was Seymour's fourth-straight start earning a victory at Triple-A. During these four outings, Seymour has logged 25 2/3 innings of work to the tune of a 1.78 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP. During this stretch, the left-hander has struck out 21 batters and allowed only five walks. Seymour made his MLB debut earlier in June as well, but only made one appearance. He was deployed in a long relief role and logged two innings of one-run ball (unearned run) en route to earning a victory. Given his elite production in Triple-A this season, Seymour should be in the mix to return to Tampa Bay in the second half.

Ian Seymour Strikes Out Two, Picks Up Win in Debut

Tampa Bay Rays pitching prospect Ian Seymour made his MLB Debut on Monday, coming on in the 10th inning of the team's 10-8 win over the Red Sox in extras. The lefty allowed one unearned run on an error by first baseman Jonathan Aranda, while walking two (one intentional) and striking out two in the two-inning outing. He did not allow a hit in nine batters faced, and because the Rays would take the lead in the top of the 11th and go on to be victorious with Seymour on the mound, the Rays' 19th-ranked prospect would end up as the winning pitcher in the contest. The 26-year-old could be a ratio-enhancer if he ends up sticking around, especially with his strikeout ability, but offers little more fantasy relevance without a closing role.
