Jose Quintana Activated and Starting on Wednesday

The Colorado Rockies announced on Wednesday that they activated left-hander Jose Quintana (hamstring) from the 15-day injured list. Quintana will make the start on Wednesday against the Houston Astros. It will be his second start of the year for Colorado after allowing two earned runs with four walks and two strikeouts in a no-decision in 4 1/3 innings of work against the Miami Marlins on March 29. The 37-year-old veteran southpaw didn't make any minor-league rehab starts, so he will most likely be on a pretty short leash and won't be in play for a win or quality start for fantasy managers. Quintana is in his 15th major-league season and doesn't have much upside, especially with a 20.6% career strikeout rate. The Astros offense is second in team OPS (.802), so it's a bad matchup for Quintana to be returning to. For now, he'll take the rotation spot of left-hander Kyle Freeland, who landed on the IL on Wednesday with shoulder inflammation.

Jose Quintana Gets Placed on Injured List

Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Jose Quintana (hamstring) was placed on the 15-day Injured List on Thursday, retroactive to Monday. The veteran southpaw allowed two earned runs across 4.1 innings of work during his season debut on Sunday. He appears to have suffered a right hamstring strain during that start, which will knock him out for a few weeks. The severity of the injury is unknown right now, so it's unclear if Quintana will need any longer than the 15 days on the IL. In a corresponding move, right-hander Valente Bellozo has been recalled to take Quintana's spot in the starting rotation. Neither pitcher figures to offer much upside in terms of fantasy value, so Quintana can likely be dropped for a healthy arm.

Jose Quintana Signs One-Year Contract With Rockies

According to Robert Murray of FanSided.com, the Colorado Rockies have signed veteran left-handed pitcher Jose Quintana to a one-year contract worth $6 million. Quintana was one of the top remaining starting pitchers on the market ahead of spring training. Last summer, the 37-year-old spent his 14th MLB season with the Milwaukee Brewers. Across 131 2/3 innings, the southpaw held a 3.96 ERA with a 1.29 WHIP. He struck out hitters at a low 16.0% rate and generated a hefty 5.20 xERA under the hood, suggesting he may face some regression in the upcoming campaign. He also allowed walks at a high 9.0% rate. The 37-year-old is not expected to hold much fantasy value outside of a low-end streaming option in NL-only formats, given his minimal strikeout potential and that he is now pitching in a hitter's paradise, Coors Field.

Brewers Decline Option on Jose Quintana on Tuesday

The Milwaukee Brewers declined their $15 million mutual option on left-hander Jose Quintana on Tuesday, making him a free agent, per ESPN's Jeff Passan. Quintana will be given a $2 million buyout and will be free to sign with any MLB team this offseason. The 36-year-old veteran southpaw only struck out 89 hitters in 131 2/3 innings in 2025 with the Brew Crew, but he managed to go 11-7 with a decent 3.96 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and 50 walks over 24 starts during the regular season. Quintana's 4.81 FIP indicates he was very fortunate to have an ERA under 4.00, though, and his market most likely won't be very robust this winter. At best, he's a back-end starter for a big-league rotation at this stage of his career, and his lack of strikeout upside makes him pretty unattractive for fantasy purposes outside of deep leagues.

Jose Quintana to Start Game 4 of NLCS Against Dodgers

Milwaukee Brewers veteran left-hander Jose Quintana will start Game 4 of the National League Championship Series on Friday at Dodger Stadium against the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com. Quintana was pushed back to Friday's game after Milwaukee used left-hander Aaron Ashby as the opener and rookie right-hander Jacob Misiorowski as their bulk reliever in the Game 3 loss on Thursday. The 36-year-old soft-tosser will now be tasked with keeping the Brewers' playoff hopes alive and to avoid a four-game sweep in the best-of-seven series. This will be Quintana's second playoff appearance this year after he held the Chicago Cubs scoreless over three innings in the NL Division Series. Quintana faced the Dodgers in back-to-back outings on July 9 and 20 during the regular season and allowed a combined five earned runs on six hits (two homers) while walking four and striking out nine in 12 innings. The Brewers won both of those games.

Jose Quintana or Quinn Priester Could Start Game 2 of NLDS

Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Jose Quintana and Quinn Priester are both being considered as candidates to start Game 2 of the NLDS, according to manager Pat Murphy. The Brewers have already named Freddy Peralta as Saturday's Game 1 starter against the Chicago Cubs. Quintana has been sidelined with a calf strain, but appears to be healthy now. He posted a 3.97 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and an 89/50 K/BB ratio across 24 starts this season. Priester came out of seemingly nowhere and registered a 3.32 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and a 132/50 K/BB ratio in 24 starts. Both pitchers have been viable options for the Brewers and figure to both be used during this series.

Jose Quintana Heads to 15-Day Injured List

Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Jose Quintana (calf) was placed on the 15-day injured list on Wednesday. Quintana was able to play catch on Tuesday without any issues. However, Quintana doesn't appear to be feeling good enough to take the mound right now. The left-hander will miss basically the rest of the regular season, but is eligible to return on September 30. Quintana was forced to exit his latest outing due a mild calf strain. The Brewers are hopeful that Quintana will be back in time for the postseason. Fantasy managers can safely drop Quintana in redraft formats. In a corresponding move, right-hander Nick Mears has been activated off the injured list.

Jose Quintana has Mild Calf Strain

The Milwaukee Brewers are saying that left-hander Jose Quintana (calf) is dealing with a mild left-calf strain, according to Jack Stern of Brewer Fanatic. Quintana will be re-evaluated when he plays catch on Tuesday to determine his availability for his next outing. Manager Pat Murphy said Quintana suffered the injury while covering first base in his last start on Sunday against the St. Louis Cardinals, and he will undergo an MRI exam. Even if the 36-year-old veteran's MRI results come back encouraging, he could land on the injured list as a precaution so the Brewers can get him fully healthy for the start of the postseason in October. Quintana's next scheduled start comes this Saturday against St. Louis. The soft-tossing left-hander has only 89 K's in 131 2/3 innings, but he also has an ERA under 4.00 with a 1.29 WHIP in 24 starts for the Brew Crew.

Jose Quintana Exits with Calf Injury

Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Jose Quintana (calf) left Sunday's start after suffering a calf injury, reports Todd Rosiak of The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The injury occurred while he was running to cover first base, and he was removed after four innings and 67 pitches. He underwent an MRI after the game, but the results and the severity of the injury have not yet been disclosed. Expect an update tomorrow on the extent of the injury, but this would be a blow to a Brewers team that is already thin at pitching heading into a playoff run. They have Erick Fedde and Chad Patrick in the bullpen, who could both potentially step back into the rotation if needed.

Jose Quintana Back in the Win Column

Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Jose Quintana fired six shutout innings in Saturday's 9-0 win over the Minnesota Twins. The Colombian native allowed three hits and struck out one while issuing four free passes to improve to 5-2 through ten starts. Quintana landed just 52 of 90 pitches for strikes, but was the beneficiary of plenty of soft contact in his longest start since Apr. 22. It was his first win in nearly two months. The veteran sports a strong 2.98 ERA over his first 54 1/3 innings. However, his 1.40 WHIP is more indicative of his performance and underlying metrics (4.63 xFIP). He'll get a favorable matchup in the visiting Colorado Rockies his next time out.
