Shea Langeliers Hot to Begin Season, Hits Grand Slam in Loss on Saturday

Athletics catcher Shea Langeliers is showing his high-end power early in 2026, homering for the third time in just the second game in Saturday's extra-inning loss to the hosting Toronto Blue Jays. Langeliers went 2-for-4 with a grand slam, one walk, and a strikeout in the team's 8-7 loss at the Rogers Centre. In Friday night's 3-2 loss to Toronto, Langeliers hit two solo homers to carry the A's offense. He's feeling it at the plate early on this year after hitting a career-high 31 long balls and driving in 72 in 123 games in 2025 in his third full season in the majors. The 28-year-old also had seven stolen bases and a .277/.325/.536 slash line with an .861 OPS in 523 plate appearances. Langeliers hit 82 home runs and drove in 215 runs from 2023 to 2025 and appears headed for a possible second straight 30-home run season for the A's.

Shea Langeliers Hits Two Home Runs on Opening Day

Athletics catcher Shea Langeliers flexed his muscles in the 3-2 Opening Day loss to the hosting Toronto Blue Jays on Friday, going 3-for-4 with two solo home runs and a strikeout at Rogers Centre. Langeliers was the A's only source of offense on a night where Toronto right-hander Kevin Gausman was nearly unhittable. Gausman only gave up one hit (the homer to Langeliers) and struck out 11 in six innings. Langeliers hit his second home run of the day in the top of the ninth inning off closer Jeff Hoffman to tie the game at two apiece, but the Blue Jays came through in the bottom half of the ninth frame to walk it off. The 28-year-old backstop hit .277/.325/.536 with a career-high .861 OPS, 31 home runs, 72 RBI, 73 runs scored, and seven stolen bases in 523 plate appearances and 123 games in 2025. Langeliers has 82 home runs in his three full MLB seasons and has high-end power for the weak catching position. Coming into the 2026 campaign, Langeliers was an easy top-five fantasy catcher. His two-homer game on Opening Day is further proof.

Can Shea Langeliers Repeat 2025 Breakout in 2026?

Athletics catcher Shea Langeliers took his game to new heights in 2025, hitting .277/.325/.536 with 31 home runs, 72 RBI, 73 runs scored, and seven stolen bases across 523 plate appearances. The 28-year-old had already established himself as one of the better power-hitting catchers in the two years prior, hitting 51 combined home runs between 2023 and 2024. He emerged as a more complete hitter last season by dropping his strikeout rate to 19.7%, a significant improvement from his career average of 26.1%. Langeliers sacrificed a bit of hard contact for the improvement, as his barrel rate dropped from 12.8% to 11%. However, the Athletics' move to Sacramento and the extremely hitter-friendly Sutter Health Park helped offset any negatives for Langeliers. He also should be locked into a prime position in the heart of an improving Athletics lineup, helping him rack up counting stats. Even if Langeliers' batting average regresses a bit towards his career norm in 2026, he should still profile as one of the best hitters at his position for fantasy managers.

Shea Langeliers, A's Avoid Arbitration

The Athletics and catcher Shea Langeliers have agreed to a $5.25 million contract for 2026 to avoid arbitration, according to MLB insider Robert Murray. Langeliers has now posted back-to-back seasons with at least 29 home runs and 70 RBI. In 2025, Langeliers hit a career-high 31 home runs with 72 RBI, 73 runs scored, and seven stolen bases, good for a 132 wRC+. He has also improved his plate discipline, posting a career-low 19.7% strikeout rate. Langeliers ranks among the best offensive catchers in baseball and benefits from playing half of his games at Sutter Health Park, which has a 108 park factor, according to Baseball Savant, making it the second-most hitter-friendly environment in MLB. Over the last month, Langeliers has been the fourth catcher off the board in early drafts with an ADP of 55. Looking ahead to 2026, Langeliers has legitimate 30-home run upside. However, his biggest drawback is his durability. Langeliers has never played more than 137 games in a season, but if he stays healthy, he will be worth his ADP.

Shea Langeliers Resting on Thursday

Athletics catcher Shea Langeliers is not in the lineup against the Boston Red Sox on Thursday. Willie MacIver will take over behind the plate and hit ninth in a meeting with right-hander Brayan Bello. Langeliers is getting a breather after starting eight straight games. The 27-year-old slugger has hit a solid .280/.379/.420 in 12 contests in September, though he has only gone deep once. He has belted 30 homers this season and slashed .263/.316/.524 with 68 RBI, 69 runs scored, and seven stolen bases in 494 plate appearances. Langeliers, Seattle's Cal Raleigh, and Colorado's Hunter Goodman are the only primary catchers who have reached the 30-HR mark in 2025.

Shea Langeliers Has Three-Homer Evening Tuesday

Athletics catcher Shea Langeliers made history in Tuesday's 16-7 win over the Nationals. Batting leadoff for the first time in his career, Langeliers went 5-for-6 with a single, a double, and three solo home runs. The 27-year-old became the second catcher in Major League history to hit three HR in a game while batting leadoff. The former fantasy prospect has come into his own this season, slashing .272/.323/.545 with 22 HR, 48 RBI, and five stolen bases in 341 plate appearances. The Athletics have hit surprisingly well as a team, making Langeliers a solid fantasy option, regardless of where he hits in the lineup.

Shea Langeliers Hits Three-Run Homer In Return From Injured List Monday

Athletics catcher Shea Langeliers (oblique) wasted no time in getting back to contributing offensively in Monday's 6-4 win over the Rays. Langeliers, who returned from the 10-day injured list after dealing with a strained left oblique, went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run. The 27-year-old got things going right away, lining a first-inning Drew Rasmussen fastball over the left-center wall to plate three. Langeliers picked up right where he left off before his IL stint and is now slashing .237/.299/.441 with 11 HR, 30 RBI, and four stolen bases in 234 plate appearances. He won't provide much in terms of batting average but should provide plenty of power, especially in hitter-friendly Sutter Health Park.

A's Reinstate Shea Langeliers From Injured List

The Athletics announced on Monday that they reinstated catcher Shea Langeliers (oblique) from the 10-day injured list and optioned catcher Willie MacIver to Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move. Langeliers will return as the team's starting backstop after missing over three weeks with a strained left oblique. The 27-year-old right-handed-hitting catcher went 8-for-13 with a home run in just three minor-league rehab games with Vegas and will be hoping to keep that hot hitting going when he returns to the A's lineup. Fantasy managers should expect him to start right away in Monday's series opener against the hosting Tampa Bay Rays and right-hander Drew Rasmussen. Langeliers swings and misses too much to be a batting-average asset in fantasy, but he has above-average at the weak catching position and is already in double digits in homers with 10 in 207 at-bats.

Shea Langeliers to Start Rehab Assignment on Wednesday

Athletics catcher Shea Langeliers (oblique) will begin a minor-league rehab assignment on Wednesday with Triple-A Las Vegas, according to MLB.com's Martin Gallegos. Langeliers could be activated from the 10-day injured to return at some point this weekend if he avoids any setbacks with his left-oblique strain after a couple rehab games in the minors. The 27-year-old backstop has been out of action since June 6 with his injury, but he should immediately return to being the team's starting catcher once he's activated. Austin Wynns and Willie MacIver have been splitting playing time behind the dish in Sacramento with Langeliers sidelined. Langeliers isn't going to hit for much of an average for his fantasy managers, but he proved last year he has high-end power at the catching position by hitting 29 balls over the wall in 137 games. He has 10 through his first 56 contests in 2025.

Shea Langeliers Takes Batting Practice

Athletics catcher Shea Langeliers (oblique) was able to take part in batting practice ahead of Saturday's game. Langeliers looked good swinging the bat and was crushing the ball, so it sounds like he's making good progress. He's currently working his way back from an oblique injury that landed him on the 10-day injured list in early June. It's unclear if Langeliers is going to need a rehab assignment. Before going down, Langeliers was slashing .237/.300/.430 with 10 homers and 27 RBI this season. In the meantime, Austin Wynns and Willie Maclver will split up the duties behind the plate for the A's.
