Bud Dupree Files Grievance Hoping To Be Paid As DE

Pittsburgh Steelers pass-rusher Bud Dupree has filed a grievance in hopes that he will be paid as a defensive end instead of as a linebacker for the 2020 season. The Steelers placed the franchise tag on Dupree earlier in the offseason, designating him as a linebacker. The franchise tag for a linebacker pays roughly $15.8 million, while the franchise tag for a defensive end will pay around $17.8 million. There was talk of Dupree signing a long-term deal with the Steelers this offseason, but the two sides are not currently close to a deal, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Dupree racked up 11.5 sacks for the Steelers in 2019.

Bud Dupree Signs Franchise Tender

Pittsburgh Steelers pass-rusher Bud Dupree signed his franchise tender on Thursday morning. The linebacker will earn just over $15.8 million for the upcoming 2020 season. Dupree is coming off his best season as a pro, finishing with 11.5 sacks, 16 tackles for a loss, four forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. There is a possibility that the Steelers try to get Dupree locked up with a long-term contract but at the very least he will be around in 2020 to anchor Pittsburgh's pass rush.

Bud Dupree Hit With Franchise Tag

The Pittsburgh Steelers placed the franchise tag on linebacker Bud Dupree on Monday. This move doesn't come as a big surprise, as standout pass-rushers rarely hit the open market. Dupree had a career-high 68 tackles (49 solo), three passes defensed, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries over a full season for the Steelers in 2019. He's started at least 15 games each of the last three seasons and has really helped to solidify the team's interior defense along with standout linebacker T.J. Watt. Pittsburgh's defense should be owned in all formats next season, while Dupree will also be a solid IDP target as an up-and-comer.
