Carson Beck Back at Practice After Rib Injury

Arizona Cardinals rookie quarterback Carson Beck (ribs) returned to practice Saturday after sitting out Thursday's preseason win over the Las Vegas Raiders. Bo Brack reported Beck was back on the field two days after Arizona held him out with minor rib discomfort. Beck suffered the injury when he was sacked late in the second quarter of the Hall of Fame Game against Carolina, though he stayed in and opened the third quarter. He was excellent before getting banged up, completing 15 of 19 passes for 188 yards and a touchdown in his NFL debut. Beck is currently third on Arizona's unofficial depth chart behind Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew II, so every preseason rep matters as the rookie works his way into the quarterback room. The Cardinals host Dallas on Aug. 22, giving Beck another chance to get back into game action if the ribs continue to cooperate.

Carson Beck Won't Play in Thursday's Preseason Game Due to Rib Injury

Arizona Cardinals rookie quarterback Carson Beck (rib) will not suit up for Thursday's second preseason contest against the Las Vegas Raiders due to a rib injury that he suffered in last Thursday's Hall of Fame Game against the Carolina Panthers, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. The injury is not considered serious, though, and Beck practiced through the soreness all week. The Cardinals have decided to keep him out as a precaution and to allow for more time to heal. It remains to be seen if Beck will be cleared to participate in the third preseason game on Saturday, Aug. 22, against the Dallas Cowboys. The third-rounder went 15-for-19 passing for 188 yards and a touchdown in the first half last week against the Panthers. Even if veteran starter Jacoby Brissett misses time due to an injury in 2026, the 24-year-old Beck might not be the next man up under center in Arizona, with veteran Gardner Minshew also in the QB room.

Carson Beck Back Working With Third-Team Offense

After an impressive starting debut in Thursday's Hall of Fame Game, Arizona Cardinals rookie quarterback Carson Beck was back working primarily with the third-team offense during Sunday's practice, and he was not particularly sharp, according to team reporter Darren Urban. While he did rally with a pair of touchdown throws late in practice, the offense was reportedly a step behind the defense for much of the day. Beck was a third-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, and there is an expectation that he could see starting work at some point as a rookie. His performance in the Hall of Fame Game offered reassurance to fantasy managers weighing the late-season upside of players like Trey McBride or Jeremiyah Love. However, Beck will still need to establish consistency and show he can run the offense without significant drop-off to remove some of the lingering doubt surrounding his high-profile teammates.

Carson Beck Has Impressive Debut In Hall of Fame Game

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Beck put on a show in the NFL's first preseason game of 2026. Beck operated as the signal-caller for the first half plus the opening drive of the third quarter. He went 15-for-19 for 188 passing yards and one touchdown in the eventual 33-30 loss to the Carolina Panthers. The rookie engineered a 96-yard drive in the first quarter that culminated in a rushing touchdown from running back Corey Kiner. Beck kicked off Arizona's next drive with a 49-yard bomb to receiver Jalen Brooks and three plays later hit Simi Fehoko on a five-yard fade route for a touchdown. Beck's performance added some fuel to the simmering quarterback competition in Arizona. Jacoby Brissett, who signed a one-year, $15.5 million contract in July, is still the presumed starter, but free agent signee Gardner Minshew II's position on the depth chart suddenly looks less secure. Beck's next chance to impress will come on August 13 against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Carson Beck to Start Hall of Fame Game on Thursday

Arizona Cardinals rookie quarterback Carson Beck will start Thursday's Hall of Fame Game against the Carolina Panthers, according to head coach Mike LaFleur. The third-round pick is part of an open competition with Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew for Arizona's regular-season starting job, so the assignment gives him the first live-game opportunity to make his case. Beck completed 72.4% of his passes for 3,813 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions over 16 games during his final season at Miami, helping the Hurricanes reach the national championship game. Arizona selected him with the 65th overall pick in April. A strong performance Thursday would not settle the competition, but it could earn Beck additional preseason work and strengthen his standing with the new coaching staff. His experience and accuracy give him a chance to make the race interesting, though he remains primarily a dynasty and deeper Superflex option until the Cardinals provide more clarity under center.

Cardinals, Rookie QB Carson Beck Agree to Four-Year Deal

The Arizona Cardinals and rookie third-round quarterback Carson Beck agreed to terms on Wednesday, and he will sign his four-year, $7.4 million deal, sources told Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. Beck is one of the last 2026 NFL draft picks to sign before the start of training camp. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound signal-caller will likely open training camp competing with Kedon Slovis for the QB3 job behind veterans Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew. Beck spent five seasons at the University of Georgia before playing for the University of Miami in 2025, where he led the ACC in completions (338) and completion percentage (72.4%) while throwing for 3,813 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions in 16 games. He should have a shorter development window because of his experience, but he lacks high-end talent, and his ceiling in fantasy might be that of a midrange QB2 because of his lack of rushing ability. Fantasy managers in redraft leagues can ignore Beck, while in dynasty formats, he's merely a low-upside stash in 2026.

Carson Beck Carries Stash Appeal for Dynasty Rebuilders

After completing 72.4% of his pass attempts for 3,813 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions across 16 games for the University of Miami in 2025, quarterback Carson Beck was selected in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals. Beck may be entering his rookie season as the QB3 in Arizona behind veterans Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew II. However, neither Brissett nor Minshew II projects as the Cardinals' quarterback of the future, which could put Beck in a position to earn a starting opportunity at some point in 2026 or 2027. Arizona has a strong core of offensive weapons around its quarterbacks in tight end Trey McBride, wide receivers Marvin Harrison Jr. and Michael Wilson, and running back Jeremiyah Love, which could help Beck have success if he gets on the field. For dynasty managers in the midst of a rebuild, taking a shot on Beck in rookie drafts could be a worthy dart throw.

Carson Beck a Worthy Investment in the Later Rounds of Rookie Drafts

In what was considered a weak quarterback class, Miami (FL.) product Carson Beck lasted until the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft, when the Arizona Cardinals made him the third quarterback off the board at pick No. 65. With the Cardinals already in a contract dispute with presumed 2026 starter Jacoby Brissett and fielding one of the weakest rosters in the league, there's a sense the team could have an eye toward the 2027 Draft. If that is truly the case, Beck has one of the best chances to find starting work this season of any of the 10 quarterbacks drafted in April, making him a worthwhile pick in the later rounds of superflex rookie drafts. While his chances of long-term fantasy success are slim, scarcity at the position tends to allow quarterbacks to hold value. With fantasy depth always challenged by year's end, if Beck does indeed close out the season by starting games, a value bump could then allow dynasty managers to flip him for at least what they spent, essentially moving a rookie pick into what projects to be a much stronger 2027 class.

Could Carson Beck Sit on the Bench for his Entire Rookie Season?

The Arizona Cardinals took former University of Miami quarterback Carson Beck with the first pick in the third round of this year's draft because of his big-game experience, arm strength, size (6-foot-4, 220 pounds), accuracy, toughness, and intangibles. Beck enters a QB room in Arizona that already includes veterans Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew. New head coach Mike LaFleur said that "it won't be the worst thing" for Beck if he "ends up sitting for part or all of his rookie season." That won't be anything new for the 24-year-old, who was a backup at Georgia for his first three seasons, including sitting behind current Los Angeles Rams backup QB Stetson Bennett in 2022. "It benefits anyone in any position to be able to sit back," LaFleur said. "Sometimes, guys don't have the choice because you have to put your best 22 out on the field there." The Cardinals have some maneuvering to do with Brissett's contract this year, but that should be taken care of, and he's fully expected to start under center in 2026 after a career season in 2025 in Arizona. Beck has plenty of long-term upside as a dynasty target in fantasy, but he won't be on the redraft radar at all.

Carson Beck Selected 65th Overall by Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals selected University of Miami quarterback Carson Beck with the 65th overall pick to kick off the third round of the 2026 NFL draft on Friday night. The Cardinals were fully expected to take a signal-caller at some point in this year's draft, and it ends up coming with the first pick of the third round. The Cardinals released former first-rounder Kyler Murray (foot) after a disappointing and injury-plagued 2025 campaign. Veteran Jacoby Brissett took over for Murray last year and had a career year in a pass-heavy offense. Beck is the heir apparent in the desert under center now, and he could end up playing in 2026 under new head coach Mike LaFleur. There was a time when Beck was considered a potential first-rounder, but that all changed after he suffered a torn UCL in his right elbow in 2024. Beck is often compared to Jared Goff. The 6-foot-4, 233-pounder had questions about his arm strength after elbow surgery and finished his final collegiate season with a 72.4% completion percentage, 3,813 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions in 16 games played. Beck will most likely head into training camp competing with Gardner Minshew for the backup job, but if Brissett struggles early, there will be plenty of noise for the Cardinals to get the Beck era started.
