Josh Sweat, Cardinals Agree On Four-Year Deal

Free-agent linebacker Josh Sweat and the Arizona Cardinals reached an agreement on Monday on a four-year deal worth $76.4 million, including $41 million guaranteed, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The deal was negotiated by agent Drew Rosenhaus. Sweat will head to the desert after seven seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. The former fourth-round pick (130th overall) in 2018 out of Florida State was a Pro Bowler in 2021 and had a career-high 11 sacks in 16 starts in 2022. In 2024, Sweat finished with 41 tackles (27 solo), eight sacks, nine tackles for loss, 15 QB hits and two pass breakups in 16 regular-season games (15 starts). The 27-year-old pass-rusher added 2.5 sacks in the Super Bowl victory over the Chiefs and has six-plus sacks in five straight seasons. It is a much-needed addition to a Cardinals pass rush that didn't put much heat on opposing quarterbacks in 2024.

Josh Sweat Auditioning For Other Teams In 2024?

Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman began the offseason by essentially placing edge rusher Josh Sweat on the trade block in an apparent effort to reset the position group in terms of age and salary cap. The Eagles traded Haason Reddick to the Jets and restructured Sweat's contract to spread out his cap hit with $10 million guaranteed. Sweat will remain in Philly for an age-27 contract year, but it remains to be seen if he can perform well enough to earn a major contract with another team, or if he proves himself too valuable for the Eagles to let walk. The Eagles drafted Nolan Smith at No. 30 overall in 2023 and added Jalyx Hunt in the third round of this year's NFL draft. Sweat saw a dip in production last year but was still useful for Philly, registering 43 total tackles and 6.5 sacks while appearing in all 17 of the team's regular-season games.

Josh Sweat Staying With Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles agreed to terms with pass-rusher Josh Sweat on a restructured contract on Friday to keep him in Philadelphia, according to sources. Sweat was drawing interest from other teams for what likely would have been a pay increase, but he'll instead stay with the team in 2024. With the restructure, the 26-year-old has a chance to make $13 million this season with $10 million guaranteed. The former fourth-round pick of the Eagles in 2018 out of Florida State was a Pro Bowler for the first time in his career in 2021, but his production dipped slightly last season. In 17 regular-season starts, he had 43 tackles (30 solo), 6.5 sacks, seven tackles for loss, 23 QB hits and two forced fumbles a year after recording a career-high 11 sacks in 16 starts. Sweat won't be on the IDP fantasy radar in most leagues in 2024.

Josh Sweat Taken To Hospital Sunday

Philadelphia Eagles defensive lineman Josh Sweat (neck) exited Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints with a serious injury. He was carted off the field and taken to a local hospital as a precaution. Fortunately, Sweat has movement in all extremities, according to an announcement from the team.

Josh Sweat Won't Play After Life-Threatening Situation

Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Josh Sweat (illness) will not play in Sunday's wild-card game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after overcoming a "life-threatening" situation this week. Sweat was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday night and underwent an emergency procedure, but he will not be able to take the field on Sunday. The 24-year-old missed the Week 18 regular season finale and had continued to deal with abdominal pain due to his illness, but no further details are known at this time. It's a blow to the Eagles pass rush going up against quarterback Tom Brady, as Sweat had career-highs in tackles (45), QB hits (13) and sacks (7.5) in 16 games this year. It's unclear if he'd be available in the Divisional Round next week if the Eagles pull the upset on Tampa on Sunday.

Eagles Sign Josh Sweat To Three-Year Extension

The Philadelphia Eagles signed defensive end Josh Sweat to an undisclosed three-year contract extension through the 2024 season on Saturday. The extension comes exactly a week after the Eagles signed left tackle Jordan Mailata to a four-year extension through the 2025 season, so Philly is making sure to lock up their rising young talent. Sweat, a fourth-round pick in 2018, had 38 tackles (24 solo), 12 QB hits and a career-high six sacks in 14 games (three starts) for the Eagles last season. He wasn't able to record a sack in the season-opening win over the Atlanta Falcons, but he did have six combined tackles in the victory. Sweat drew rave reviews in training camp and is in line for a much bigger role moving forward on Philly's defensive line.

Josh Sweat Heads To Locker Room

Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Josh Sweat (undisclosed) has been taken to the locker room in the first quarter of Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals. The nature of his injury hasn't been released yet. He should be considered questionable to return. Losing Sweat would be costly for the Eagles Defense as Sweet's been coming on strong lately. In Week 14, he tallied five tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble.
