Tyler Allgeier Currently in a Dynasty Buy Window Amid Rollercoaster Offseason

Arizona Cardinals running back Tyler Allgeier has had one of the most turbulent offseasons in recent memory from a dynasty valuation standpoint. After spending the past three seasons backing up Bijan Robinson in Atlanta, Allgeier hit free agency for the first time in his career with a chance to find a lead back role similar to the one he thrived in as a rookie. With the market not as high on him as some may have expected, his landing spot with Arizona was viewed as lukewarm at best, particularly with Trey Benson and James Conner both returning from injury, and the latter having specifically reworked his deal to stick with the team. As the dust settled, Allgeier again saw his dynasty value slowly creep up as the fit between him and new offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett started to make more sense. With the Cardinals spending the third overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft on Jeremiyah Love, however, Allgeier saw his consensus dynasty ranking plummet from a high-end RB3 to the low-end RB4 range. With him bottoming out at RotoBaller's dynasty RB47, he again finds himself in a buy window. Even while playing behind arguably the best running back in the league, who has never missed a game in his professional career, Allgeier has had weekly finishes as the RB21 or better 11 times over the past three seasons. At worst, he will spend his time with the Cardinals as one of the most valuable insurance backs in the league, but he will not be without his own standalone value.

Tyler Allgeier One of the Biggest Losers After NFL Draft

ESPN's Adam Schefter considers new Arizona Cardinals running back Tyler Allgeier as one of the biggest losers after the 2026 NFL draft last week. Allgeier left the Atlanta Falcons to sign a two-year, $12.25 million deal with the Arizona Cardinals so that he could finally be a lead back in the NFL. Then on draft night, the Cardinals took Notre Dame RB Jeremiyah Love with the third overall pick, thrusting Allgeier right back into a backup role. ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. says that the Cardinals could accommodate Allgeier a bit by putting Love out wide as a slot receiver in the offense this year. Love is a dynamic threat out of the backfield as both a receiver and runner, so he will give the Cardinals flexibility and versatility in the backfield, but the bottom line is that the addition of the Fighting Irish star RB is a major threat to Allgeier having a much bigger role than he saw in Atlanta behind Bijan Robinson. That's especially true since the Cardinals also have James Conner (foot) and Trey Benson (knee) as backfield options in 2026 (if they aren't traded). Allgeier could open the season as the primary back in Arizona, but before long, Love should take over.

Is Tyler Allgeier Again Doomed to Backup Duty?

Arizona Cardinals running back Tyler Allgeier signed a two-year, $12.5 million deal in the opening hours of free agency, and even if the landing spot featured somewhat of an ambiguous backfield, many called for a year-five breakout as he was finally able to escape the shadow of RotoBaller's dynasty RB2, Bijan Robinson. Having never taken an NFL snap, Notre Dame prospect Jeremiyah Love enters the league as RotoBaller's RB4, and with the Cardinals spending the third overall pick to bring him to the desert, Allgeier looks to again be relegated to change-of-pace duty behind a young bellcow. He has already shown he can have moderate success in the role, finishing as the RB34, RB42, and RB38 across the past three seasons while providing the occasional spike week and serving as the game's most valuable insurance back; however, Allgeier managers who were unable to sell on his free agency bump are likely frustrated to find him back in a similar situation. Allgeier topped out as the dynasty RB28 heading into draft weekend, but he will be 28 by the time he next has a chance to look for a larger role. He is still a must-roster player on the strength of the injury insurance he provides, but the hopes that he could become anything more in his second home went up in smoke only three picks into the NFL Draft.

Tyler Allgeier's Familiarity with System Could Give Him an Early Edge

Cardinals running back Tyler Allgeier appears to have been hand-selected for Arizona's new offensive system. First-time head coach Mike LaFleur landed in the desert with a plan and wasted no time in naming Nathaniel Hackett as his offensive coordinator. The two will presumably marry Hackett's classic West Coast scheme to philosophies from the McVay-Shanahan system, with a run game dominated by outside-zone looks. Arriving in Arizona, though, they inherited a running back room of James Conner and Trey Benson, two backs who have spent the past two years in a more North-South man/gap system. Allgeier's two-year deal with the team was one of the first announced at the start of free agency, after spending the past two seasons in Atlanta with another McVay disciple, Zac Robinson. While the transition in Arizona may be more nuanced for the team's offensive linemen than its backs, Allgeier's past experience can not be discounted, as more than 76% of his career carries have come on some variant of zone run, while that number sits at a combined 42% for Conner and Benson. The most likely outcome for fantasy is that all three backs will eat into one another's workload, making all of them unreliable as weekly plays, but with Conner about to turn 31 and coming off a severe foot injury, and Trey Benson yet to deliver up his early third-round draft capital, Allgeier could be the early front-runner for a leading role in a system with which he should have some familiarity.

Tyler Allgeier Joins a Crowded Backfield in Arizona

The Arizona Cardinals are setting up to be a run-heavy offense in 2026 under new head coach Mike LaFleur. Running backs James Conner (foot) and Trey Benson (knee) will both be returning from season-ending injuries early in 2025, and the team also signed former Atlanta Falcons RB Tyler Allgeier to a two-year, $12.25 million contract in free agency. The 25-year-old Allgeier could never truly reach his ceiling in Atlanta while working behind stud RB1 Bijan Robinson, and now he could be part of a three-headed RB attack in the desert, depending on the health of both Conner and Benson. Allgeier had a 1,000-yard rushing season in his rookie campaign in 2022 on 210 carries and then regressed each season after that in terms of yardage, although he did have a career-high eight TDs in 17 games in 2025. He's been durable in his four NFL seasons, missing just one game. Allgeier should at the very least be in play as a touchdown-dependent RB3/flex (like he was in Atlanta), but he'll have clear RB2 upside if he emerges as Arizona's backfield leader.

Cardinals Agree on Two-Year Deal With Tyler Allgeier

The Arizona Cardinals agreed to terms on a two-year, $12.25 million deal with former Atlanta Falcons running back Tyler Allgeier on Monday, according to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network. Allgeier had a career-low 514 rushing yards on 143 rushing attempts in 2025 in his final year in Atlanta, but he still managed to score a career-high eight rushing touchdowns. The 25-year-old added 14 receptions for 96 additional yards as the backup to superstar back Bijan Robinson. The former fifth-rounder in 2022 out of BYU will now head to the desert to give the Cardinals more backfield depth with both James Conner (foot) and Trey Benson (knee) coming off season-ending injuries a year ago. It's not the best landing spot for fantasy football purposes for Allgeier, but he should at least be a touchdown-dependent RB3/flex option while being paired with Conner in a rebuilding Cardinals offense. The addition of Allgeier is certainly bad news for Benson's dynasty stock.

Tyler Allgeier Seeking Three-Year, $22 Million Deal

Atlanta Falcons impending free-agent running back Tyler Allgeier will be looking for a contract in the neighborhood of three years and $22 million this offseason, according to Josh Kendall of The Athletic. Kendall adds that it's almost certainly "more than the Falcons will be willing to pay" with Bijan Robinson's second contract looming down the road in one or two years. Robinson will try to reset the RB market when he begins negotiations. Allgeier had 676 carries for 2,876 yards in his four seasons in Atlanta and set the franchise's rookie rushing record of 1,035 yards in 2022 after he was taken in the fifth round. The 25-year-old was a frustrating play in fantasy because of the unpredictability behind Robinson, but he did have a career-high eight TDs in 2025, and he should be in line for an expanded role in 2026 in a new location.

Tyler Allgeier Unlikely to Return to Falcons?

Atlanta Falcons running back Tyler Allgeier has been a key piece of the team's backfield in his four years since he was taken in the fifth round in 2022 out of BYU, rushing for 2,876 yards and 18 rushing touchdowns. Allgeier had a franchise rookie record of 1,035 rushing yards in 2022 and ranks seventh in the NFL in EPA per carry among RBs with more than 250 carries in that span. He's one of just two RBs in the league with more than 500 carries in that time who have not fumbled. However, The Athletic's Josh Kendall writes that "it's hard to imagine how Atlanta will be able to bring him back." The Falcons probably won't offer the 25-year-old starting RB money as the backup to star Bijan Robinson. Allgeier has shown an interest in returning to Atlanta, but it probably isn't in the cards. He had 514 rushing yards and a career-high eight touchdowns on 143 carries in 2025 and will be in high regard if he hits the open market. Depending on where he lands, Allgeier's fantasy value could skyrocket in 2026.

Tyler Allgeier Maintains Standalone Value Behind Superstar

Atlanta Falcons running back Tyler Allgeier continued to carve out standalone value in his role behind Bijan Robinson throughout the 2025 season. Allgeier had his ups and downs, making it difficult to know when to start or sit him. His role wasn't exactly matchup dependent or even game script dependent, so he spent most of the season as a risky RB3/flex in a boom-or-bust role. However, on a positive note, he played all 17 games and finished with yet another solid stat line. He rushed for 514 yards and eight touchdowns on 143 carries, posting a new career-high in touchdowns as he vultured a lot of Robinson's goal-line work. He also caught 14 passes for 96 receiving yards. Allgeier ranked as the overall RB39 in PPR leagues, and he has now posted a top-43 finish in each of his four NFL seasons. Robinson's steady availability has left Allgeier in a backup role, but it's worth noting that he's arguably the most valuable fantasy handcuff and would jump to the top-12 range if Robinson were to miss time. Between his modest standalone value and his upside as Robinson's backup, Allgeier will continue to be a solid fantasy option for 2026. In dynasty leagues, he's a "hold" for most managers, but he's an important "buy" for managers with Robinson on their roster.

Tyler Allgeier a Risky Flex Play in Tough Matchup Against Rams

Atlanta Falcons running back Tyler Allgeier tied a season high with 16 rush attempts last week, totaling 79 yards on the ground (4.9 yards per rush). Without recording a touchdown, though, and recording one catch for negative six yards left him with a disappointing line for fantasy. Although the 25-year-old has eight touchdowns on the season, he's very susceptible to quiet outings and has not scored in three consecutive games now. It could be tough sledding in Week 17's Monday night home matchup against the Rams, a defense that has allowed the fourth-fewest fantasy points to opposing running backs and just 92.7 rush yards per game over the last three weeks (fifth-fewest). As 7.5-point underdogs, the Falcons may need to take to the air, which could limit Allgeier's potential involvement, so he'll once again be a risky Flex play in what is likely the championship round for season-long fantasy managers.
