The Arizona Cardinals acquired edge rusher Baron Browning from the Denver Broncos on Monday in exchange for a sixth-round pick, according to sources. Browning, who has 9.5 career sacks in three-plus NFL seasons, will now head to the desert. The 25-year-old former third-rounder in 2021 out of Ohio State has missed four games in 2024 due to injury but has been healthy each of the last three weeks for Denver. In his five games played (two starts) this year, Browning has recorded only seven tackles (one solo) and one tackle for loss. If he can stay healthy, Browning could have a bigger role in Arizona with rookie first-rounder Darius Robinson (calf) injured. Browning has 114 career tackles (66 solo), 15 tackles for loss, 22 QB hits, one interception, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in 43 career games (28 starts).
Broncos Finalize Third Round By Drafting Baron Browning
The Denver Broncos selected Ohio State linebacker Baron Browning with the last pick of the third round (No. 105 overall) of the 2021 NFL draft on Friday night. Browning is underrated because of his size (6-foot-3, 240 pounds), but he has prototypical size to play the Mike linebacker position as a run-stopping force. He also has enough mobility to drop into zone coverage, which will give defensive-minded head coach Vic Fangio some intriguing possibilities to confuse the opposing offense. His size could also make him an option for covering tight ends. Browning's advanced technique and awareness of the game give him the necessary intangibles. Can be hurt by his aggressiveness, but over time, Browning could become an excellent all-around linebacker.
