Baltimore Ravens quarterback Josh Johnson finished off the preseason on Saturday with a seemingly tight grip on the backup role to Lamar Jackson. The veteran ended their blowout loss to the Green Bay Packers with 71 yards and a touchdown while throwing five completions out of seven attempts. Despite playing just the first three possessions, Johnson led the QBs in efficiency, yards, and rating, and was the only one to lead the team to a score. Throughout the preseason he totalled 253 yards and two touchdowns while throwing 20-for-30. Any of the quarterbacks that took the field for the Ravens this preseason aren't likely to see the field unless something happens to Lamar Jackson, but for fantasy managers relying on Jackson, it's nice to have a backup plan.

Josh Johnson Completes Every Pass Against Falcons
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Josh Johnson put together a nearly perfect half of football in the team's 13-12 win over the Atlanta Falcons on Saturday afternoon. The veteran completed all 11 of his pass attempts for 120 yards and a touchdown and carried the ball twice for eight yards on the ground. The lone miscues were a sack for 12 yards and a miscommunication with the center that led to a fumble, but it didn't officially count in Johnson's box score. In the first quarter, a lot of Johnson's throws were short passing plays, but he ended up completing big play after big play in the second quarter. In the touchdown drive, he completed passes of 12, 13, and 31 yards respectively, capped off by a six-yard score to Owen Wright.

Josh Johnson Is The Ravens' Backup Quarterback
Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh reiterated after the NFL draft that quarterback Josh Johnson is his No. 2 quarterback right now behind starter Lamar Jackson. Harbaugh said that sixth-round rookie Devin Leary will "probably be the third quarterback this year in some way or fashion and grow into the job as we go." Malik Cunningham, who was signed off the New England Patriots' practice squad in December, has time to change the coaching staff's mind in training camp this summer, but the Ravens have been non-committal about their long-term plans for him. Now that Tyler Huntley is now in Cleveland, the 37-year-old journeyman Johnson will be the primary backup for Jackson entering the 2024 season. Needless to say, but the Ravens will be in trouble if Jackson misses time with an injury.

Ravens Expected To Sign Josh Johnson
The Baltimore Ravens are expected to sign free-agent backup quarterback Josh Johnson to an undisclosed one-year deal, according to a source. Johnson will return to the team for the fourth different time in his career. The 37-year-old journeyman signal-caller didn't appear in an NFL game at all in 2023 and attempted two passes in 2022 with the San Francisco 49ers. The former fifth-round pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2008 out of San Diego has been with seven different NFL organizations in his time in the league. With Tyler Huntley being a free agent, Johnson could compete with Malik Cunningham for the backup role to Lamar Jackson in 2024, but the Ravens could still re-sign Huntley or bring in another quarterback this offseason.

Josh Johnson Posts Solid Performance On Monday
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Josh Johnson completed all but two throws on Monday night against the Washington Commanders. The 37-year-old registered 145 yards through the air with two touchdowns and one interception while completing 10 of his 12 pass attempts. Which was good enough for a rating of 121.9. Johnson found both Tylan Wallace and Zay Flowers for scores in the first half as he kept the team within three points of the Commanders' first-string offense. Johnson is currently trying to challenge Tyler Huntley for the backup spot but has a way to go to move the needle.

Josh Johnson To Start On Monday
Baltimore Ravens veteran quarterback Josh Johnson will start in the team's second preseason game against the Washington Commanders on Monday. Tyler Huntley (hamstring) has been out of practice after tweaking his hamstring, so this could give Johnson a chance to compete for the QB2 job behind Lamar Jackson. The 37-year-old has been on 14 NFL rosters since entering the league in 2008 and in his third stint with the Ravens. Second-year quarterback Anthony Brown will back up Johnson and play in the second half against Washington.

Tyler Huntley Has Left The Door Open For Josh Johnson
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Tyler Huntley remains the favorite to win the backup job behind Lamar Jackson this summer, but he has left the door open for veteran Josh Johnson. Huntley struggled with consistency and turned the ball over too often during organized team activities and last week's mandatory minicamp. The Ravens wanted to upgrade at backup QB this offseason, and it's notable that Huntley is on the books for $2.6 million in 2023. If Baltimore isn't sold on Huntley as a clear upgrade over Johnson, the salary cap savings they could get from moving on from him could be attractive. The 25-year-old has plenty on the line at training camp next month. In 13 games (eight starts) over the last two years, he's completed 65.7% of his passes for 1,739 yards, five TDs and seven interceptions.

Josh Johnson Returns To Ravens
Free-agent quarterback Josh Johnson, who has played for an NFL-record 14 teams, has signed with the Baltimore Ravens on Monday for the third time in his career, according to a source. Johnson was with the Ravens in 2016, 2021 and now again in 2023. The 37-year-old journeyman entered the NFC Championship game for the San Francisco 49ers against the Philadelphia Eagles when Brock Purdy injured his elbow, but Johnson was also forced to leave early with a concussion. In 10 NFL seasons, Johnson has completed 58 percent of his pass attempts for 2,280 yards, 13 touchdowns and 16 interceptions in 39 games (nine starts). He figures to be the third-stringer in Baltimore behind Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley.

Josh Johnson Throws For 74 Yards In Relief
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Josh Johnson completed 7-of-13 passes for 74 yards in the Niners' 7-31 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game. Johnson came in to relieve Brock Purdy after the rookie left the game with an elbow injury. He faced heavy pressure from an elite Eagles defense and was sacked twice. On one hit in the third quarter, Johnson's head was slammed into the turf, which caused him to be removed and put in concussion protocol. Johnson has been a career backup since entering the league in 2009, and he will not be a relevant player in fantasy football.

Josh Johnson Won't Return To The NFC Championship
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Josh Johnson (head) won't return to Sunday's meeting with the Eagles. The signal-caller entered to take over for Brock Purdy (elbow), who was injured in the first half. However, Johnson took a nasty hit in the third quarter and left for a concussion evaluation. Nevertheless, his day is over, meaning Purdy is back in under center, although he's certainly limited.
