Josh Johnson News
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Josh Johnson completed all but two throws on Monday night against the Washington Commanders. The 37-year-old registered 145 yards through the air with two touchdowns and one interception while completing 10 of his 12 pass attempts. Which was good enough for a rating of 121.9. Johnson found both Tylan Wallace and Zay Flowers for scores in the first half as he kept the team within three points of the Commanders' first-string offense. Johnson is currently trying to challenge Tyler Huntley for the backup spot but has a way to go to move the needle.
Baltimore Ravens veteran quarterback Josh Johnson will start in the team's second preseason game against the Washington Commanders on Monday. Tyler Huntley (hamstring) has been out of practice after tweaking his hamstring, so this could give Johnson a chance to compete for the QB2 job behind Lamar Jackson. The 37-year-old has been on 14 NFL rosters since entering the league in 2008 and in his third stint with the Ravens. Second-year quarterback Anthony Brown will back up Johnson and play in the second half against Washington.
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Tyler Huntley remains the favorite to win the backup job behind Lamar Jackson this summer, but he has left the door open for veteran Josh Johnson. Huntley struggled with consistency and turned the ball over too often during organized team activities and last week's mandatory minicamp. The Ravens wanted to upgrade at backup QB this offseason, and it's notable that Huntley is on the books for $2.6 million in 2023. If Baltimore isn't sold on Huntley as a clear upgrade over Johnson, the salary cap savings they could get from moving on from him could be attractive. The 25-year-old has plenty on the line at training camp next month. In 13 games (eight starts) over the last two years, he's completed 65.7% of his passes for 1,739 yards, five TDs and seven interceptions.
