Derwin James Jr. News
Los Angeles Chargers safety Derwin James (concussion) has been ruled out for Week 17 against the Los Angeles Rams. James suffered a concussion in the Monday night win over the Indianapolis Colts on the same play in which he was ejected for a hit on receiver Ashton Dulin. The 26-year-old safety won't be suspended for the play, but he could miss the final two regular season games as the Bolts look to get their squad healthy for the postseason. It's a significant development for fantasy managers in IDP leagues that are playing for a championship this week, as James has been the No. 5 fantasy safety in 2022 based on overall points. The good news for the Chargers is they appear to be getting pass-rusher Joey Bosa (groin) back for the first time since Week 3. Alohi Gilman should start in James' play on Sunday.
Los Angeles Chargers safety Derwin James (head) won't be suspended for the hit on Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Ashton Dulin that led to James being ejected in the victory on Monday night, according to a source. James could be fined for his actions. It's good news for James and his fantasy managers in IDP leagues, but the 26-year-old is also in the league's concussion protocol due to a head injury that he suffered on the same play that got him ejected from the game. Before leaving on Monday, the Pro Bowler had an interception. He was returning from a two-game absence due to a quadriceps injury, and now his availability for the Week 17 game against the Los Angeles Rams is in question. After clinching a postseason berth on Monday, the Bolts could play it safe and hold James out this week.
Los Angeles Chargers safety Derwin James was ejected from his team's Monday night game against the Indianapolis Colts. James was ejected for an illegal hit to the head/neck area of a defenseless Ashton Dulin in the second quarter on a tackle attempt in which he appeared to lead with the crown of his helmet. James also may have injured himself on the play as he was in the medical tent getting checked for a concussion when the ejection was announced. Following the tackle, Dulin immediately headed back into the locker room to get checked out. James had an interception and three total tackles before the ejection.
