Gardner Minshew News
The Indianapolis Colts are splitting their first-team repetitions at organized team activities on Thursday between rookie first-round quarterback Anthony Richardson and Gardner Minshew. There's a reason why the Colts drafted Richardson at No. 4 overall this year. They believe he can be the future of the franchise at the most important position on the football field, but it might take some time. Ideally, the 21-year-old signal-caller would be ready to go for Week 1 of his first NFL campaign, but that may not happen. If they think he needs a little more seasoning, they'll go with the more experienced Minshew. Richardson is a physical freak, but it takes more than that to succeed at the highest level. Consider the talented rookie a much better dynasty/keeper investment in 2023 than in redraft fantasy leagues.
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Gardner Minshew will compete for the team's starting job under center in 2023, according to new head coach Shane Steichen. "Right now, obviously, he's coming in to just compete and be the best he can be, you know, and that's where we're going," Steichen said on if Minshew will be named the starter. "That's where we feel he's at right now and that's his role right now." Minshew and Steichen have spent the last two years together with the Philadelphia Eagles, but the Colts also have the No. 4 overall pick in next month's draft and could elect to take a franchise QB with that pick. If the Colts take a QB with their first pick, the 26-year-old Minshew will compete for the starting gig with him. Minshew started only four games the last two years with Philly, but he has 24 games of starting experience in the NFL in four seasons.
The Indianapolis Colts agreed to an undisclosed deal with free-agent quarterback Gardner Minshew on Thursday, according to a source. The Colts' search for a new QB lands them Minshew Mania after veteran Matt Ryan failed in 2022, was benched and ultimately released this week. Indy also still has Nick Foles and Sam Ehlinger on their roster, but barring another addition at the position, Minshew should enter 2023 as their starter. He has experience with new head coach Shane Steichen from their last two years together with the Philadelphia Eagles, and Minshew has made 24 starts (32 games played) in the last four seasons for the Jags and Eagles. In an offense that may not be as ground-based under Steichen, Minshew profiles as a high-end QB2 for fantasy managers in his new locale.
