Gardner Minshew II Captains Cardinals Offense In Loss To Cowboys

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Gardner Minshew II went 19-for-23 for 177 yards with one interception in Saturday's preseason loss to the Dallas Cowboys. With Jacoby Brissett resting and Carson Beck (ribs) still recovering from a hard shot taken in the Hall of Fame Game on August 6, Minshew operated as the team's signal-caller until K Slovis took over late in the third quarter. Minshew threw an interception on Arizona's first possession but settled in after that, keeping his stat sheet clean by focusing on short-yardage targets. Minshew had a passing touchdown negated by an offensive pass interference flag on the receiver, tight end Rivaldo Fairweather. He was later robbed of a rushing touchdown due to a false start call. The journeyman backup sits second on Arizona's depth chart and will not be relevant for fantasy unless Brissett suffers an injury. Minshew's final chance for a tuneup will come on August 28, when the Cardinals face the Packers in their preseason finale.

Gardner Minshew II Set to Start Against Cowboys

Arizona Cardinals backup quarterback Gardner Minshew II will start Saturday's preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys. With starter Jacoby Brissett resting, along with the rest of the starters, and rookie quarterback Carson Beck (ribs) not expected to play, Minshew is set to start. The veteran quarterback has started 47 games in his career, including one start with the Kansas City Chiefs, which he left early due to a knee injury. The former sixth-round pick signed a one-year, $5.5 million contract with the Cardinals this offseason as a backup behind Brissett. While fantasy managers should avoid targeting Minshew in fantasy drafts, he could be worth a look if Brissett misses time and the team decides to be patient with their third-round rookie.

Gardner Minshew II Throws Two TDs In Preseason Win

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Gardner Minshew II took the reins from starter Jacoby Brissett after the team's first drive in Thursday's preseason matchup against the Raiders. The veteran backup had his way with Las Vegas' reserve defenders, going 14-for-16 for 101 passing yards and two touchdowns in the 27-14 win. Minshew took one sack and was hit with a grounding penalty, but otherwise played mistake-free football before being replaced partway through the third quarter by Kedon Slovis. With Brissett expected to be Arizona's starting quarterback when the regular season opens, Minshew's solid performance helped secure his place as second on the depth chart after Carson Beck's (ribs) strong showing in last week's Hall of Fame Game. Minshew's next chance to demonstrate his worth will come on August 22 against the Dallas Cowboys.

Gardner Minshew Reaches Agreement on One-Year Deal With Arizona

Former Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Gardner Minshew reached an agreement on Monday on a one-year, $8.25 million deal with the Arizona Cardinals, a source told Adam Schefter of ESPN. The Cardinals have released Kyler Murray (foot), but even with the addition of Minshew, the Cardinals intend to keep veteran Jacoby Brissett as their starting QB in 2026. It means that Minshew will be the backup in the desert next season. The 29-year-old gunslinger spent last year in Kansas City, backing up Patrick Mahomes. The forer sixth-round pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2019 out of Washington State appeared in four games (one start) and went 6-for-13 for 37 yards with no touchdowns and one interception. Minshew injured his knee in his lone start late in the 2025 season and didn't play again after Mahomes suffered a season-ending knee injury. A Pro Bowler in 2023 with the Colts, Minshew won't be on the two-QB superflex radar unless Brissett misses time with an injury.

Gardner Minshew Avoids ACL Tear, Already Back to Full Strength

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Gardner Minshew (knee) didn't tear his ACL as initially feared, a source told Adam Schefter of ESPN. Minshew suffered only a bone bruise and did not require surgery. The veteran signal-caller avoided any long-term damage to his knee and is already back to full strength as he heads into free agency in 2026. Minshew was forced into action late in the season after Patrick Mahomes (knee) tore his ACL in Week 15. In his first start of the season in Week 16 against the Tennessee Titans, Minshew injured his left knee and missed the final few games of the year. The 29-year-old was initially believed to have a torn ACL before the Chiefs said he had a non-displaced tibial plateau fracture. This news might make it more likely that Minshew returns to KC as QB insurance for Mahomes again. In four appearances in 2025, Minshew went 6-for-13 for 37 yards with one interception.

Gardner Minshew Avoids ACL Tear

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Gardner Minshew (knee) got good news from an MRI on his injured knee, as his ACL was not torn as initially feared. He's still out for the rest of the season on IR, but his recovery will be quicker since it's a "non-displaced tibial plateau fracture," which is basically a severe bone bruise but does not require surgery. The seventh-year QB was on a one-year deal with the Chiefs, but only played two games this season. He'll be a free agent this offseason, and the fact that he won't have to recover from a torn ACL will make him one of the better backup options on the market. He could return to Kansas City or land with a new team, but wherever he ends up, the fact that he doesn't have a torn ACL should improve his chances of being ready for offseason activities and the start of next season.

Gardner Minshew Likely Tore His ACL on Sunday

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Gardner Minshew (left knee) likely tore his ACL during Sunday's Week 16 contest against the Tennessee Titans, according to Matt Derrick of Chiefs Digest. The veteran signal-caller exited in the first half after completing just three of his eight pass attempts for 15 passing yards, zero touchdowns, and zero turnovers. He also had eight rushing yards. This is deflating news for the Chiefs, who have now lost both Patrick Mahomes (knee) and Minshew to torn ACLs in back-to-back weeks. This crushing sequence of injuries will leave third-string quarterback Chris Oladokun in line to start on Thursday against the Denver Broncos. Outside of Oladokun, Kansas City has no healthy quarterbacks on its active roster or practice squad, so they'll likely make an addition or two within the next few days. In the meantime, Minshew will undergo additional testing to confirm his initial diagnosis.

Gardner Minshew Won't Return in Week 16

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Gardner Minshew (knee) won't return to Sunday's Week 16 contest against the Tennessee Titans. He was initially listed as questionable before being downgraded to out. The veteran signal-caller finishes this week having completed just three of his eight pass attempts for 15 passing yards, zero touchdowns, and zero turnovers. He also had eight rushing yards. With Patrick Mahomes (knee) done for the year, Minshew was replaced by third-string quarterback Chris Oladokun. Depending on the severity of Minshew's injury, we could see Oladokun earn the start on Thursday Night Football against the Denver Broncos in Week 17.

Gardner Minshew Questionable to Return in Week 16 with Knee Injury

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Gardner Minshew (knee) is officially questionable to return to his team's Week 16 matchup against the Tennessee Titans due to a knee injury. Minshew completed three of eight pass attempts for 15 yards and recorded one carry for eight yards before exiting the game in the first half. Minshew was filling in for the injured Patrick Mahomes (knee), so Kansas City's quarterback depth is thinning rapidly. If Minshew is unable to return, Chris Oladokun would likely finish Week 16 under center for the Chiefs. A seventh-round pick out of South Dakota State in 2022, Oladokun has appeared in one career NFL game to this point. If Oladokun were to get injured, it's not clear who the Chiefs would turn to at quarterback.

Gardner Minshew Will Lead The Chiefs In Week 16

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Gardner Minshew replaced Patrick Mahomes after he suffered his season-ending knee injury against the Los Angeles Chargers last week. Minshew completed three of his five pass attempts for 22 yards and an interception in the loss. It was a difficult spot for the backup to be thrust into, but he should have the opportunity to bounce back this week against the Tennessee Titans. The Titans have given up the seventh-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks this season, putting Minshew in an advantageous situation this week. The last time Minshew started a game was over a year ago when he was a member of the Las Vegas Raiders. The 29-year-old completed 25 of 42 pass attempts (60%) for 230 yards, a touchdown, and an interception in a loss to the Denver Broncos. Minshew has proven to be a capable starter when given the opportunity, but the Kansas City offense should still take a hit without Mahomes at the helm. Minshew is ranked QB26 in our RotoBaller rankings, making him a backend QB2 option in Superflex and 2QB leagues this week.
