Jaylon Johnson Activated From Injured Reserve

The Chicago Bears activated cornerback Jaylon Johnson (groin) from injured reserve ahead of their matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles on Black Friday, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Johnson has played in just one game this season, back in Week 2 against the Detroit Lions, but he was listed as a full participant in practice on Tuesday and Wednesday and is expected to return in Week 13. The 26-year-old cornerback's snaps could be limited after missing a lot of time, but his presence will be a big lift to a Chicago Bears defense that has allowed 26.5 points per game so far this season.

Jaylon Johnson Will Not Return from Injured Reserve in Week 11

Chicago Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson (groin) has been downgraded to out for his team's Week 11 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. The star corner has been on Injured Reserve since Week 2 due to a groin injury. Chicago has opened Johnson's activation window, and he was able to log a limited practice on Friday, but he'll have to wait at least one more week before returning to the field. Across 17 games in 2024, Johnson recorded 42 solo tackles and two interceptions and was named to his second Pro Bowl. Without Johnson, Tyrique Stevenson and Nahshon Wright will likely see the majority of the team's cornerback snaps in Week 11. Johnson's next chance to make his return to the lineup will be in Week 12 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Bears Open Jaylon Johnson's Practice Window

The Chicago Bears opened the 21-day practice window for cornerback Jaylon Johnson (groin) on Friday, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Johnson is making progress after undergoing core-muscle surgery earlier this season, and the Bears now have 21 days to officially activate the 26-year-old defensive back from Injured Reserve. Johnson was injured in Week 2 against the Detroit Lions, the only game he's appeared in this year. He will not be ready to return for this weekend's game against the division-rival Minnesota Vikings, but depending on how he progresses next week, there's a possibility he'll be back in the fold in Week 12 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Johnson's return in the second half will be great news for a Bears team that leads the league in turnover differential by a wide margin.

Jaylon Johnson Won't Play Against Vikings

Chicago Bears All-Pro cornerback Jaylon Johnson (calf, groin) is officially inactive for Monday Night Football in Week 1 versus the division-rival Minnesota Vikings, according to Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports. Johnson went through pre-game warmups but will need at least another week. It is a significant absence for Chicago's secondary and will make life easier on Vikings former first-round quarterback J.J. McCarthy in his NFL regular-season debut. Johnson missed all of training camp during the summer with a groin injury and is also dealing with a calf ailment, which is why the Bears aren't going to take any chances with the 26-year-old. Not only is Johnson inactive, but slot corner Kyler Gordon (hamstring) will be missing from this one, so both Vikings wideouts Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen could have big games.

Jaylon Johnson Questionable Against Vikings

Chicago Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson (calf/groin) is listed as questionable for Monday Night's matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. The two-time Pro Bowler has been limited in practice all week, but given the high-profile matchup against Justin Jefferson, don't be surprised to see him suit up. In Jefferson's last three games against Johnson, he has recorded 13 receptions on 24 targets for 138 yards and a touchdown, averaging 8.8 half-PPR fantasy points per game. If Johnson sits out Monday, Jefferson is poised for a big game, and the Bears' defense will face major challenges containing Minnesota's high-powered offense.

Jaylon Johnson Placed on NFI List

Chicago Bears defensive back Jaylon Johnson has been placed on the non-football injury list on Saturday. The Bears also placed Case Keenum, Jahdae Walker, and Ian Wheeler on the NFI list as well. The good news is that none of these players are reportedly dealing with anything serious. The Bears certainly need Johnson healthy by the start of the season. The two-time Pro Bowl defensive back figures to remain an important part of this defense going forward. He recorded 53 tackles, eight passes defended, and two interceptions in 17 games last season. Johnson figures to be ready to go by the beginning of the season.

Jaylon Johnson Signs Four-Year Deal To Stay With Bears

The Chicago Bears and star cornerback Jaylon Johnson are finalizing a four-year, $76 million contract extension that will make him one of the league's highest-paid corners. The Bears placed the franchise tag on Johnson last week but they had their sights set on getting Johnson locked up long-term all along, a plan that came to fruition on Thursday. Johnson will average $19 million per season on his new deal, putting him behind only Trevon Diggs in average annual salary. Johnson had 36 total tackles and four interceptions in 14 games in 2024.

Bears Using Franchise Tag On Jaylon Johnson

The Chicago Bears are placing their franchise tag on star cornerback Jaylon Johnson on Tuesday. General manager Ryan Poles said at last week's NFL scouting combine that they are in the process of getting a long-term deal done with Johnson, but if the two sides can't agree on something by the deadline in mid-July, Johnson would play the 2024 season on the one-year, $19.8 million tag. "Conversations are going well at this time," Poles said last week. The 24-year-old former second-round pick by the Bears in 2020 out of Utah was selected to his first Pro Bowl in 2023 after recording 36 tackles (31 solo), a career-high four interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), 10 passes defensed and a forced fumble in 14 starts.

Bears Are Dedicated To Bringing Back Jaylon Johnson

The Chicago Bears are dedicated to bringing back impending free-agent cornerback Jaylon Johnson, which might require the franchise tag. The Bears will also likely look to upgrade their defensive line this offseason, including adding an additional pass-rusher to complement Montez Sweat. Johnson, 24, was the team's second-round pick in 2020 out of Utah and was a big reason why Chicago's secondary was one of the better units in the league in 2023. He had a career year as a first-time Pro Bowler and finished with 36 tackles (31 solo), a career-high four interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), 10 passes defensed and a forced fumble in 14 starts in his fourth year in the NFL.

Jaylon Johnson Wants To Stay With Bears

Chicago Bears star cornerback Jaylon Johnson said he'd rather sign a new contract with the Bears instead of testing the free-agent market. "I want to stay here," Johnson said. "I definitely want to get something done (here) first. But at the end of the day, if something doesn't get done, then I'm not opposed to any other options. But I would love to stay here. So that's that." It comes after he requested a trade before the Oct. 31 deadline. He's in the middle of a strong year, recording four interceptions after having just one in his first 43 career appearances. General manager Ryan Poles said at the time near the trade deadline that he thought the two sides were close to a contract extension after an Oct. 29 meeting. The 24-year-old former second-rounder in 2020 out of Utah also has 31 tackles (26 solo) in addition to his career-high four picks in 2023.
