Case Keenum News
Buffalo Bills quarterback Case Keenum could be asked to make the start against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 10. As of right now, starting quarterback Josh Allen (elbow) is questionable to play and wasn't practicing on Thursday. The team considers Allen to be day-to-day, so his status for Friday's practice will go a long way to determining his status for Sunday. Otherwise, Keenum would be asked to make the start under center this weekend. The veteran signal-caller has experienced success as a starter before in the NFL. The Bills do have plenty of offensive weapons, but the Vikings secondary can hold their own. Fantasy managers should be able to find a more reliable streaming option than Keenum for this upcoming week. It's unlikely that the 34-year-old has a ton of success against this Vikings secondary.
The Buffalo Bills acquired quarterback Case Keenum from the Cleveland Browns on Saturday in exchange for a seventh-round pick, according to a source. Baker Mayfield is expected to be the next QB traded by the Browns after they acquired Deshaun Watson on Friday. Keenum, 34, will back up Josh Allen in 2022 after Mitchell Trubisky signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers in free agency. This will be the seventh different team that Keenum has played for, and he's managed to make 64 starts in nine NFL seasons. He spent the last two years with the Browns and threw for 462 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in seven games last year (two starts). Keenum will provide Allen with experience as his backup.
The Cleveland Browns are expected to trade or release backup quarterback Case Keenum this offseason, per Jeff Howe and Zac Jackson of The Athletic. The veteran signal-caller was a fine backup option in 2021, going 2-0 through two starts in Baker Mayfield's absence. He finished the season with 47 completions, 462 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. Parting with Keenum prior to his final year under contract would create $7.1 million in cap space while carrying $1.3 million in dead money. He won't generate any interest as a potential starter, but all teams in the market for a backup quarterback should view him as a very strong option.
