Chicago Bears offensive guard Jonah Jackson has signed an extension with the organization. The two sides have agreed on a one-year extension that will keep Jackson in Chicago through 2027. Jackson will receive all $17.5 million he was slated to earn this season. His salary will increase to $7 million with a $5.25 million for injury. Jackson was acquired by the Bears earlier this month from the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for a sixth-round pick. He only started in four games with the Rams last season, but before that Jackson was an All-Pro with the Detroit Lions. On paper, this certainly appears to be a solid upgrade to the Bears offensive line.
According to ESPN's Courtney Cronin, the Chicago Bears are in the process of acquiring veteran offensive lineman Jonah Jackson (shoulder) from the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round draft pick. The trade cannot become official until the start of the new league year on March 12. Jackson was limited to only four games in 2024 with the Rams due to a shoulder injury, but he addresses a big need for the Bears and also played center, left guard and right guard last year before getting hurt. The 28-year-old fractured his scapula in Week 2 against the Arizona Cardinals and was benched later in the season after signing a three-year, $51 million deal with L.A. in free agency a year ago. Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Bears will assume Jackson's full contract -- he's scheduled to make $17.5 million in 2025 and is also under contract in 2026.
Rams Give Jonah Jackson Permission To Seek A Trade
The Los Angeles Rams have given offensive guard Jonah Jackson (shoulder) permission to seek a trade, sources tell ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. The former Detroit Lions Pro Bowler signed a big deal with the Rams in free agency last year (three years, $51 million) but played in just four games in 2024 due to a shoulder injury and a benching. Jackson is due an $8.5 million guarantee on March 12, and the Rams would prefer not to pay that figure. The 28-year-old fractured his scapula in the Week 2 loss to the division-rival Arizona Cardinals but was able to return later in the season. If the Rams cut Jackson with a post-June 1 designation, they can save $9 million on the 2025 salary cap. Either way, it looks like he'll be one and done in L.A. Jackson was taken in the third round (75th overall) by Detroit in 2020, and Jackson made his lone Pro Bowl in his second year with the Lions in 2021.
Jonah Jackson Expected To Miss Preseason With Shoulder Injury
Los Angeles Rams starting guard Jonah Jackson (shoulder) is expected to miss the preseason due to a bruised scapula. However, he may return in time for the regular season opener against his former team, the Detroit Lions. Today, Jackson was seen on the sidelines with his left arm in a sling, highlighting the severity of the injury. The Rams have labeled Jackson as day-to-day with a shoulder issue. Signed to a three-year, $51 million contract, Jackson is now the sixth-highest-paid guard in the NFL, acquired from the Lions. The Rams were already without left tackle Alaric Jackson (ankle), who tweaked his ankle earlier in the week, so any significant injury to Jonah Jackson would be a major setback as training camp progresses. These injuries could adversely affect the fantasy value of the Rams' offensive players, particularly Matthew Stafford and Kyren Williams.
The Los Angeles Rams agreed to terms with free-agent offensive guard Jonah Jackson on Monday on a three-year, $51 million deal with $34 million guaranteed, according to sources. Jackson joins the recently re-signed Kevin Dotson as the Rams spend big money on the middle of their offensive line. The Rams are making it a priority to protect aging quarterback Matthew Stafford while also opening up lanes for running back Kyren Williams heading into next season. The 27-year-old Jackson, a former third-rounder of the Detroit Lions in 2020, was a Pro Bowler in 2021 and has started all 57 games that he's played in in his first four seasons in the NFL. Jackson played a pivotal role in the Lions' offensive line, which was one of the best O-lines in football in recent seasons, so this is a big addition for the Rams offense up front.
Detroit Lions offensive guard Jonah Jackson (knee) has officially been ruled out for Sunday's NFC Championship game on the road in San Francisco against the 49ers. Jackson was injured in the Divisional Round win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last Sunday and underwent surgery to fix a minor meniscus tear in his knee. It's unclear if the 26-year-old would be able to suit up for the Super Bowl in a couple weeks if the Lions advance past the 49ers. Jackson's absence isn't good news for quarterback Jared Goff or the team's ground game with running backs Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery. Kayode Awosika is expected to start at left guard for Detroit against a strong 49ers defensive line.
Detroit Lions offensive guard Jonah Jackson (finger) has been downgraded to doubtful ahead of Sunday's meeting with the Commanders. The 25-year-old had been questionable with a finger injury, so he's certainly trending in the wrong direction. However, if Jackson is ruled out, which will likely happen, it won't be an ideal situation for a Lions team already entering Week 2 without center Frank Ragnow. Obviously, missing two starting linemen won't do Jared Goff, Jamaal Williams, or D'Andre Swift (ankle) any favors.
The Detroit Lions struck a trade with the Indianapolis Colts, acquiring the 75th pick and 197th pick in exchange for the 85th, 149th and 182nd picks, per ESPN's Field Yates. With pick 75, the Lions selected offensive lineman Jonah Jackson out of Ohio State. Jackson has solid blocking abilities and balance, but does not provide exceptional talent for the position. Look for the Ohio State product to see a reasonable amount of playing time this season, though how much remains unclear.
