Chicago Bears offensive tackle Braxton Jones (ankle), who was carted off the field in Sunday's loss to the division-rival Detroit Lions, is believed to have suffered a fractured left ankle, according to a source. Jones is undergoing tests on Monday, and as of right now, it looks like it's only a fractured fibula and not his tibia as well. He's now facing a four-month recovery and should be back well before training camp next summer. The 25-year-old had his leg put in an air cast before he was carted off, and he'll obviously miss the last two games of the season for Chicago. It's more bad news for a struggling Bears offense as they head into the final stretch of what has been an extremely disappointing 2024 campaign. With Jones on the shelf, Larry Borom is expected to make the start at left tackle for the team's Week 17 tilt against the Seattle Seahawks.
According to Kevin Fishbain, Chicago Bears left tackle Braxton Jones (leg) was carted off during Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions. The medical staff put an air cast on him while leaving the field. The 25-year-old has operated as the starting left tackle throughout the season. While sidelined, fantasy managers should expect Larry Borom to start at left tackle.
Chicago Bears offensive tackle (knee) avoided a serious injury and may only be sidelined for a week or two according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. Jones was forced to leave Sunday's game against the Washington Commanders early. He was replaced by third-round rookie Kiran Amegadjie who struggled to contain Washington edge rusher Frankie Luvu as quarterback Caleb Williams was under pressure all afternoon. In this game, Williams threw for a mere 131 yards and completed just 41.7% of his passes. As a result, the Chicago offense was unable to find much rhythm. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor Jones' status throughout the week as his absence would weaken the Chicago line and limit Williams' weekly upside.
Chicago Bears rookie fifth-round offensive tackle Braxton Jones quickly emerged this offseason with the first-team offensive line at left tackle during spring practices and supplanted Teven Jenkins, who was moved to right tackle with the second team. Jones said he was "a little bit surprised" he was already competing with the starting unit, but he's running with the opportunity to learn different cadences and move faster. The 6-foot-7, 310-pounder started each of the last three seasons at Southern Utah, with almost every snap he took coming at left tackle, so he's most comfortable protecting the quarterback's blind side. Jones has long arms and could see notable snaps with Chicago's offensive line in his first season.
Chicago Bears rookie offensive tackle Braxton Jones was getting work as the first-team left tackle during the team's mandatory minicamp practice on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Larry Borom was starting at right tackle with the first team. Jones was taken in the fifth round of this year's draft out of Southern Utah, and he was a two-time first-team All-Big Sky selection at tackle. The fact that the 23-year-old is working with the starting offensive line in minicamp isn't a good sign for the Bears offense early on.
