Bears Bringing Grady Jarrett To Chicago On Three-Year Deal
The Chicago Bears are signing former Atlanta Falcons defensive tackle Grady Jarrett to a three-year, $43.5 million deal, according to NFL insider Ari Meirov. Jarrett was released by Atlanta on Monday and did not take long to find a new home. The former fifth-round pick out of Clemson in 2015 is a two-time Pro Bowler and has collected 496 tackles (267 solo), 36.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, six pass deflections, and 70 run stuffs in 152 career games. The 31-year-old has posted just 4 sacks in the last two seasons, so he is likely past his prime. Either way, he is likely to be a Day 1 starter for the Bears in 2025.
Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris and general manager Terry Fontenot stopped short of saying that veteran defensive end Grady Jarrett would definitely be back with the team in 2025. Jarrett, David Onyemata and Eddie Goldman -- the three defensive linemen who played the most defensive snaps last year -- will all be 31 or 32 in 2025, which is why The Athletic's Josh Kendall writes the Falcons need to get younger on the D-line. Jarrett is heading into the final season of a three-year extension he signed in 2022. He will count $20.37 million against the 2025 salary cap, but the Falcons would only have a $4.1 million dead-cap hit if they cut him while saving $16.2 million on the cap. With the Falcons $5.3 million over the cap, they will surely be moving on from some veterans. Jarrett has meant a lot to the Falcons and has become the face of the franchise, but he had only 2.5 sacks and 12 QB hits in 2024.
Atlanta Falcons defensive end Grady Jarrett (Achilles strain) exited during Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys and did not return. He finished Week 9 with two tackles and one sack. Through nine games this year, he has totaled 30 tackles and 2.5 sacks. Kentavius Street and Ta'Quon Graham should earn more snaps on the defensive line for the duration of Jarrett's absence.
Atlanta Falcons defensive tackle Grady Jarrett (knee) suffered a torn ACL and will not play for the remainder of the 2023 season. The two-time Pro Bowler suffered the injury early in Atlanta's contest against the Tennessee Titans, which allowed running back Derrick Henry to run for over 100 yards. Jarrett only logged four snaps before being forced from the game. Jarrett will end his 2023 campaign with 23 tackles and 1.5 sacks.
Grady Jarrett Questionable To Return Versus Titans
Atlanta Falcons defensive lineman Grady Jarrett (knee) departed during the first quarter of Sunday's game against the Tennessee Titans. He is officially questionable to return. As the Falcons look to slow down Derrick Henry and the Titans, finding stable production in the trenches will be key. LaCale London should see more snaps until Jarrett is able to return.
The Atlanta Falcons agreed to a three-year contract extension worth up to $51 million with defensive tackle Grady Jarrett on Tuesday, according to sources. The Falcons will lower their salary cap number for this season, while Jarrett receives $34.5 million fully guaranteed. The two-time Pro Bowler is more effective in real life as a run-stuffer than in fantasy leagues. Jarrett finished last season with 59 tackles (38 solo), three tackles for loss, 12 QB hits, one sack and one fumble recovery in 17 starts for Atlanta. He has 26.5 sacks in his seven-year NFL career, but he has never had more than 7.5 sacks in a single season for the Falcons after they made him a fifth-round selection in 2015 out of Clemson.
Atlanta Falcons cornerback A.J. Terrell said that defensive tackle Grady Jarrett wasn't present on the first day of the team's voluntary offseason program on Tuesday. Jarrett doesn't appear to be happy with his situation in Atlanta and may want out as he enters the last year of his deal. The soon-to-be 29-year-old could be a trade candidate during next week's draft. Jarrett, who was a Pro Bowler in 2019 and 2020, had 59 tackles (38 solo), three tackles for loss, 12 QB hits, one sack and one fumble recovery in 17 games for the Falcons in 2021. He's been with the Falcons for seven seasons after being selected in the fifth round in 2015 out of Clemson, and he has 26.5 career sacks in 110 games (95 starts).
The Atlanta Falcons and defensive tackle Grady Jarrett agreed to a four-year contract extension on Monday. The contract is expected to be worth $68 million with $38 million guaranteed, according to a source. He was initially set to receive the $15.209 million franchise tag if a deal wasn't worked out by Monday. The team can now move on to extensions for receiver Julio Jones and linebacker Deion Jones. The Falcons and Deion Jones' representation will meet face-to-face on Wednesday. Jarrett, a fifth-round pick in 2015, has been a top defender for Atlanta and had 53 total pressures in 2018, according to Pro Football Focus. He also had six sacks, three forced fumbles and a team-high 16 QB hits.
Atlanta Falcons defensive tackle Grady Jarrett wasn't present for the start of the team's offseason workouts on Monday. Jarrett had the $15.2 million franchise tag placed on him this offseason, and he's hoping to land a long-term contract extension by the deadline on July 15. Owner Arthur Blank has said that Jarrett will be a "Falcon for life," so we'd expect an extension to happen eventually. The soon-to-be 26-year-old had 52 total tackles, a career-high six sacks and three forced fumbles in 14 games for Atlanta in 2018.
Falcons Want To Keep Grady Jarrett Around Long Term
Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank thinks that defensive tackle Grady Jarrett and wide receiver Julio Jones will be "Falcons for life." Atlanta put the $15.2 million franchise tag on Jarrett this offseason and have been negotiating a long-term deal with Jones. Jarrett was a fifth-round pick in 2011, and he and the Falcons can negotiate until July 15. The 25-year-old had 52 total tackles, a career-high six sacks and three forced fumbles in 14 games for Atlanta in 2018 and is only getting better.
