Trevor Penning Expected To Come Off IR This Weekend

New Orleans Saints rookie first-round offensive tackle Trevor Penning (toe) is expected to be activated from Injured Reserve this weekend ahead of the Week 12 game against the San Francisco 49ers, according to sources. The 19th overall pick in this year's draft underwent toe surgery and has yet to make his NFL debut. It should come this Sunday against a stout Niners defensive line, which is good news for the Saints offense. Before his injury, the 6-foot-7 tackle was expected to play a significant role on the O-line right away, so he should play meaningful offensive snaps the rest of the way for the Saints.

Trevor Penning Designated To Return From Injured Reserve

New Orleans Saints rookie first-round left tackle Trevor Penning (toe) was designated to return from Injured Reserve on Thursday, opening his 21-day window for the team to officially activate him from IR. The 23-year-old rookie was put on IR in early September after having surgery on his toe, but he's nearing his NFL debut for the Saints. It remains to be seen if New Orleans will ease the young tackle into the fold, but Penning was expected to immediately step in with a significant role on the offensive line before he suffered a toe injury. Regardless, the Saints offense and quarterback Andy Dalton will be in better hands once they have Penning playing. He'll have a chance to debut in Week 10 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Trevor Penning Could Return In November

New Orleans Saints rookie first-round offensive tackle Trevor Penning (foot) has a chance to be ready by early November, according to sources. At the very least, he'll be able to practice by then, and he could be a key contributor down the stretch. It was originally believed that Penning might be out for the entire 2022 season after having surgery on his foot, so it's great news for the Saints. The 23-year-old was the No. 19 overall pick in this year's draft out of Northern Iowa.

Saints Place Trevor Penning On Injured Reserve

The New Orleans Saints officially placed rookie first-round offensive tackle Trevor Penning (foot) on Injured Reserve on Thursday, assuring that he'll miss at least the first four games of the regular season. Penning is out indefinitely after having surgery on a torn ligament in his foot, and he's expected to miss well beyond the first four games of the year. With Penning on the shelf to open the 2022 campaign, veteran tackle James Hurst is expected to start at left tackle on quarterback Jameis Winston's blind side. Hurst also dealt with a foot injury that caused him to miss some action in the preseason.

Trevor Penning Tears Ligament, Will Require Surgery

New Orleans Saints rookie offensive tackle Trevor Penning tore a ligament in his foot and will require surgery, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. He suffered the injury during Friday's preseason game when an opponent stepped on him. He was carted off the field and has now been ruled out indefinitely. James Hurst is slated to play left tackle in Penning's absence, though it's worth noting that he's dealing with a foot injury of his own and isn't a lock to play in Week 1, either.

Trevor Penning Dealing With Turf Toe

New Orleans Saints first-round rookie offensive tackle Trevor Penning (toe) suffered what is believed to be a bad case of turf toe in the preseason finale on Friday against the Los Angeles Chargers, according to sources. Penning will have an MRI exam to diagnose the damage, but he'll be out for a while. The 23-year-old had his foot stepped on in the first quarter, and he needed to be carted off the field. It's a tough break for the first-rounder, who won't be ready for the Week 1 regular season opener against the Atlanta Falcons on Sept. 11. James Hurst (foot) is also dealing with an injury heading into the regular season.

Trevor Penning, James Hurst To Compete At Left Tackle

New Orleans Saints rookie first-round offensive tackle Trevor Penning will compete with veteran James Hurst for the starting left tackle job in training camp following the departure of Terron Armstead this offseason. Just because Penning was a first-round pick doesn't mean anything will be handed to him. If he wins the left tackle job, Hurst could compete for a spot elsewhere on the offensive line, such as right guard. Penning is massive at 6-foot-7 and 333 pounds, and although he is a bit raw, he has the physical tools to become a solid starting left tackle for the Saints for years to come, even if he doesn't win the starting job right away.

Saints Agree To Terms With First-Rounder Trevor Penning

The New Orleans Saints have agreed to terms with the No. 19 overall pick, offensive tackle Trevor Penning of Northern Iowa. It is a four-year, fully guaranteed deal with a fifth-year option. Penning will be tasked with filling the huge void left by the departure of former left tackle and three-time Pro Bowl selection Terron Armstead to the Miami Dolphins. Penning was the sixth offensive lineman off the board and was one of nine total to go in the first round. The 23-year-old Penning measured at 6-foot-7 and 325 pounds, with the Saints hoping he secures the left tackle spot for the long haul.

Saints Take Trevor Penning At No. 19

The New Orleans Saints selected Northern Iowa offensive tackle Trevor Penning with the No. 19 overall pick of the 2022 NFL draft on Thursday evening. Penning was a dominant presence on the offensive line in his three college seasons, and he's a big man at 6-foot-7 and 333 pounds. The 22-year-old is a raw prospect, however, and he will need to be coached up by the Saints as he moves to the next level. If everything breaks right, he has the tools to become a starting-caliber tackle for the Saints. With their first pick in the first round, New Orleans made a splash by trading up to No. 11 to take speedy wide receiver Chris Olave out of Ohio State.
