Andrew Vaughn Needs Hand Surgery, Expected to be Out 4-6 Weeks

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Andrew Vaughn (hand) fractured the left hamate bone in his hand on Opening Day on Thursday and will require surgery, according to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com. Vaughn is expected to need four to six weeks of recovery. The Brewers placed Vaughn on the 10-day injured list on Saturday. It's a tough break for the former White Sox first baseman, who came to life in Milwaukee after being acquired from Chicago last year. In 64 games with the Brew Crew, he hit .308/.375/.493 with an .869 OPS, nine home runs, 46 RBI, and 26 runs scored in 254 plate appearances. With Vaughn going on the IL, the Brewers recalled catching prospect Jeferson Quero. Veteran catcher Gary Sanchez figures to platoon at first base with Jake Bauers, while Quero gives starting catcher William Contreras a breather when he needs it behind the plate. In the Opening Day win on Thursday over his former team, the White Sox, Vaughn went 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Andrew Vaughn Battling Hand Injury

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Andrew Vaughn (hand) is battling a hand injury, per Adam McCalvy of MLB.com. McCalvy reports that Vaughn's injury is prompting Milwaukee to promote catching prospect Jefferson Quero to provide the team the flexibility to use normal backup catcher Gary Sanchez at first base. Vaughn appears likely to be placed on the injured list, but it's not entirely clear how much time Milwaukee expects him to miss. The 27-year-old started Milwaukee's opener on Thursday against the Chicago White Sox at first base and batted cleanup. Vaughn closed the 2025 season on a tear, hitting .308/.375/.493 with nine home runs, 46 RBI, and 26 runs scored across 254 plate appearances with Milwaukee. If he's forced to miss time, Sanchez and left-handed hitting outfielder/first baseman Jake Bauers could be the leading candidates to cover first base for the Brewers.

Can Andrew Vaughn Repeat 2025 Breakout Success?

Once a former top prospect with the Chicago White Sox, Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Andrew Vaughn was demoted to Triple-A while still with the White Sox organization in the middle of 2025. A mid-season trade to Milwaukee provided the 27-year-old with a second chance, and he took advantage of the opportunity. Across 254 plate appearances with the Brewers, Vaughn hit .308/.375/.493 with nine home runs, 46 RBI, and 26 runs scored. With a career 46.5% hard-hit rate, Vaughn has always carried intriguing underlying numbers, so the change of scenery may have been all he needed to unlock his potential. Heading into 2026, Vaughn should have a chance to lock down the starting first base job in Milwaukee. While he's not a speed threat, Vaughn has the chance to provide fantasy managers with four-category production and comes at a reasonable average draft position of pick 284.

Andrew Vaughn Collects Four Hits in Victory

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Andrew Vaughn was nearly unstoppable at the plate during Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. After an epic beginning to his career in Milwaukee, Vaughn saw his numbers take a dip there for a bit. Now, Vaughn appears to be back after a strong performance on Sunday. He went 4-for-5 at the plate with three singles, a double, and one RBI in the blowout win. His overall numbers aren't great because of his previous time with the Chicago White Sox. However, Vaughn has been a stud with the Brewers and should be rostered in at least deep leagues.

Andrew Vaughn Homers Again in Brewers Win

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Andrew Vaughn remains red hot for the Brewers, and helped them secure a 5-4 win on Wednesday night to close out a sweep of the Braves. The Brewers have won six straight and nine of their last 10 games to open a four-game lead over the Cubs in the NL Central, and Vaughn's contributions have been key to their success. In his 22 games since being called up from Triple-A, Vaughn is hitting .377 with seven homers, 28 RBI, and a .476 wOBA. The former No. 3 overall pick in the MLB Draft couldn't stick with the White Sox, but he has been outstanding in his time with the Brewers, and he remains a great bargain play for DFS contests and an excellent addition if he's still on the waiver wire. His long-term role is a little uncertain when the Brewers get healthy, but he's definitely earned a regular spot in the lineup for the foreseeable future.

Andrew Vaughn Resting on Sunday

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Andrew Vaughn is getting the day off in Sunday's series finale against the visiting Washington Nationals at American Family Field. Jake Bauers will make the start at first base and will bat sixth against Nationals right-hander Jake Irvin. After flaming out with the Chicago White Sox as a former first-round pick, the Brewers traded for Vaughn this year, and he's taken full advantage of his opportunities in Milwaukee with Rhys Hoskins (thumb) on the injured list. In just five games with the Brew Crew, the 27-year-old right-handed hitter has gone 6-for-14 with two home runs, two doubles, 10 RBI and three runs scored. He went 2-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI in Saturday's victory over Washington. Vaughn should continue to get chances at first base in Milwaukee, at least until Hoskins recovers from his thumb ailment.

Andrew Vaughn Drives in Four Runs

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Andrew Vaughn has come alive with the bat since joining his new team. His success at the plate continued during Saturday's game against the Washington Nationals. Vaughn went 2-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI in the 6-5 win over the Nats on Saturday. The right-handed slugger is 6-for-14 with 10 RBI since joining the Brewers on Monday. Vaughn figures to continue getting regular playing time while Rhys Hoskins (thumb) is out. Fantasy managers looking for a boost in their lineup right now should consider adding Vaughn while he's hot at the plate.

Andrew Vaughn to Join Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers plan to recall first baseman Andrew Vaughn from Triple-A Nashville, Robert Murray of FanSided reports. He'll be the corresponding move when the Brewers place Rhys Hoskins (thumb) on the 10-day injured list with a sprained left thumb. The Brewers acquired Vaughn from the Chicago White Sox for right-hander Aaron Civale on June 13. Since then, the 27-year-old has batted .259/.338/.500 with three home runs and 16 RBI in 65 plate appearances with Nashville. Vaughn entered the pro ranks as the third overall pick of the White Sox in 2019, but the former prized prospect hasn't lived up to the billing in the majors. He got off to a disastrous .189/.218/.314 start with five homers and 19 RBI in 193 plate appearances this year before the White Sox decided to cut the cord on him. The right-handed Vaughn could now form a platoon at first base with the left-handed Jake Bauers in Milwaukee.

Andrew Vaughn Shipped to Milwaukee

The Milwaukee Brewers acquired first baseman Andrew Vaughn from the Chicago White Sox on Friday in exchange for right-hander Aaron Civale, sources tell ESPN's Jesse Rogers. Vaughn, the third overall pick back in 2019 out of Cal Berkeley, never lived up to his draft stock in Chicago in his five seasons, hitting .248/.303/.407 with a .709 OPS, 77 homers, 293 RBI and 247 runs scored in 610 games. The 27-year-old was demoted to Triple-A Charlotte in May after starting the 2025 season hitting just .189 (35-for-185) with five homers, 19 RBI and 43 strikeouts in 193 trips to the plate. While the move to Milwaukee puts him with a much better team, Vaughn could remain at the Triple-A level in Nashville with his new organization as depth at first base behind Rhys Hoskins and at designated hitter behind Christian Yelich. The trade really does nothing to boost his already floundering fantasy value.

Andrew Vaughn Demoted to Triple-A

The Chicago White Sox announced on Friday that they optioned infielder Andrew Vaughn to Triple-A Charlotte. Vaughn gets the boot to help make room on the active roster for both outfielders Andrew Benintendi (calf) and Mike Tauchman (hamstring), who returned from the injured list on Friday. Vaughn was hitting just .189/.218/.314 with a .531 OPS, five home runs, 19 RBI, nine runs scored, seven walks and 43 strikeouts in 193 plate appearances in 48 games. The 27-year-old former third overall pick in 2019 out of Cal Berkeley will most likely be back up in the majors again at some point in 2025, but for now, he'll go down to the farm to try and work on his swing. Miguel Vargas is starting at first and is batting third on Friday against the Texas Rangers and right-hander Tyler Mahle, and he figures to see most of the playing time there now that Vaughn is at Triple-A.
