Eli White to Play Right Field With Ronald Acuna Jr. Injured

Atlanta Braves manager Brian Snitker said that outfielder Eli White will play right field for the team with Ronald Acuna Jr. (Achilles) on the 10-day injured list. White made the start in right field and was hitting in the eight-hole for Wednesday's game against the hosting Kansas City Royals and left-hander Angel Zerpa. It's a massive downgrade for the Braves offense, as White is batting .255 (47-for-184) with four home runs, 18 RBI, 29 runs scored and seven stolen bases on the year. For fantasy managers in NL-only leagues, though, White becomes an interesting pickup with a tick up in playing time coming for as long as Acuna remains out. In what has quickly become a lost season, the Braves won't have much incentive to rush Acuna back into the fold. If White struggles, Jared Kelenic could get some run in right field for the Braves, too.

Alex Verdugo, Eli White Platooning in Left Field

Atlanta Braves manager Brian Snitker said he would start Eli White in left field against left-handed pitchers, while Alex Verdugo will be in left field against right-handers, as he was for all three games against the San Diego Padres over the weekend. White has hit .291 with nine extra-base hits and an .814 OPS in 87 plate appearances against right-handers. Verdugo has hit .309 with eight extra-base hits and a .760 OPS in 100 plate appearances against right-handers. But White hits from the right side and Verdugo hits from the left side, so the Braves will go with a straight platoon in left field, at least for the time being. "Honestly, I'm not going to rule out anything," Snitker said. "But my plan when we got Ronald (back) was, it's gonna obviously push Eli off of right field. And I think I felt like we'd have kind of a good right-left option in left."

Eli White Appears Likely To Open Season In Utility Role

Atlanta Braves outfielder Eli White appears to have the advantage over Luke Williams in the competition for one of the final position-player roster spots, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Justin Toscano. Both White and Williams are similar players, but the difference has come down to their performances in the Grapefruit League. White, 30, has gone 10-for-22 (.455) in 11 games, while Williams has only two hits in his 26 at-bats. Although he's unlikely to see much playing time, White's clearest path to some playing time early in the year could come in a corner-outfield spot with Ronald Acuna Jr. (knee) opening on the injured list and with Jurickson Profar (wrist) a bit banged up in camp. Still, he's unlikely to see much time and barely moves the needle in NL-only fantasy leagues. In his five big-league seasons, White has a .266/.302/.568 slash line with 10 homers, 32 RBI and 20 steals in 171 games.

Eli White To Work As Infielder This Spring

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Justin Tuscano reports that Atlanta Braves outfielder Eli White, who is out of minor-league options, will spend most of spring training working in the infield to give him a chance to display his versatility. If White can impress the coaching staff on the dirt in camp, it will give him a much better shot at winning an Opening Day roster spot as a super-utility man. The 30-year-old has only made four appearances at second base in the big leagues. In his two seasons with the Braves, White has only appeared in 41 games and has gone 12-for-53 (.226) with one home run, four RBI, three stolen bases, 10 runs scored and 19 strikeouts in 59 plate appearances. If he does win an Opening Day roster spot, White will strictly be a bench player and can be ignored in the vast majority of fantasy formats.

Braves Call Up Eli White

The Atlanta Braves selected the contract of outfielder Eli White from Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday and optioned outfielder Forrest Wall to Gwinnett in a corresponding move. To make room on the 40-man roster, the team moved left-hander Ray Kerr (elbow) to the 60-day injured list. White had a 6-for-7 game with two doubles, two home runs and seven RBI down on the farm this week and is hitting .289 with seven home runs, and an .848 OPS in 54 games at Gwinnett. However, he's a .181 career hitter with nine home runs, 28 RBI and 17 stolen bases in parts of four major-league seasons with the Braves and Texas Rangers. White went 1-for-14 (.071) with two walks and seven strikeouts with Atlanta in 2023 and will be a reserve outfielder in the big leagues in 2024 for however long he sticks around.

Braves Acquire Eli White From The Rangers

The Atlanta Braves acquired outfielder Eli White from the Texas Rangers on Wednesday in exchange for cash considerations. To make room for White on the 40-man roster, the Braves designated infielder Hoy Park for assignment. The Rangers found a trade partner for White after they designated him for assignment last week. The 28-year-old played in 47 games for Texas in 2022, slashing just .200/.274/.305 with a .578 OPS, three home runs, 10 RBI, 16 runs scored and 12 stolen bases in 117 plate appearances. His season was ended early in June due to knee and wrist injuries, but he should be healthy for spring training in 2023. If he can stay healthy and productive at the plate, White could compete for part-time playing time in left field for the Braves next year.

Greg Holland, Eli White Make Opening Day Roster

Texas Rangers relief pitcher Greg Holland and outfielder Eli White have been informed by manager Chris Woodward that they have made the team. Meanwhile, relief pitcher Spencer Patton was optioned and outfielder Jake Marisnick was released by the team. Holland is the most notable player here. Joe Barlow has been heralded as the favorite for saves in Texas, but Holland significantly outperformed him this spring and we all know the 36-year-old has far more experience in a closing roll in the majors. Fantasy managers in leagues where saves are scarce and highly coveted may want to speculatively add Holland in case he opens the year as the team's primary closer.

Eli White Placed On 10-Day IL

Texas Rangers outfielder Eli White (elbow) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Thursday retroactive to Wednesday with a right elbow strain, according to Rangers Executive Vice President of Communications John Blake. White was scratched from Thursday's lineup due to what was reported as tightness in his right elbow, Over 64 games this year, White is slashing .177/.259/.308 with six homers, four steals, 15 RBI and 26 runs scored. To replace White on the roster, the Rangers have recalled infielder Yonny Hernandez from Triple-A Round Rock.

Eli White Could Miss Time

Texas Rangers shortstop Eli White (elbow) was scratched from Wednesday's lineup against the Los Angeles Angels. He is dealing with tightness in his right elbow and will undergo further testing. Manager Chris Woodward mentioned that this issue has been bothering White for quite some time. It wouldn't be shocking to see White miss some time with the Rangers season being a wash anyway. White hasn't brought much to the plate and isn't even hitting over the .200 mark on the season. He can be ignored in fantasy formats whether he lands on the injured list or not.

Eli White Blasts Solo Shot On Sunday

Texas Rangers shortstop Eli White is not known for his power ability at the plate. However, he was seemingly the only bat that decided to show up for this offense on Sunday. White went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and a walk in the 3-1 defeat to the Houston Astros. His blast came off righty Zack Greinke in the fifth inning, which marks White's sixth home run of the season. It was nice to see a little power coming from his bat, but White can continue to be ignored in basically all fantasy formats.
