Brewers Claim J.B. Bukauskas Off Waivers From Mariners

The Milwaukee Brewers claimed right-hander J.B. Bukauskas off waivers from the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday. The Brewers sent Bukauskas to Triple-A Nashville as relief depth after picking him up from the Mariners, who had designated him for assignment last week. The 26-year-old pitcher has gotten off to a rough start at the MLB and minor-league level so far in 2023. In an inning of work for Seattle, he gave up two runs (one earned) on two hits while walking two and striking out one. In 5 2/3 relief frames at Triple-A Tacoma, he had a 7.94 ERA, 1.94 WHIP, three walks and seven strikeouts. Bukauskas will represent relief depth for Milwaukee and should continue to be ignored in fantasy.

Mariners Claim J.B. Bukauskas Off Waivers From D-Backs

The Seattle Mariners claimed right-hander J.B. Bukauskas off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday and designated outfielder Alberto Rodriguez for assignment in a corresponding move. Bukauskas didn't make it through waivers after Arizona designated him for assignment last Wednesday. The 26-year-old was injured to begin last season and never made it to the big leagues. In three minor-league stops in 2022, Bukauskas had a nice 2.42 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 22 strikeouts and only four walks in 22 1/3 frames over 23 appearances (one start). In his lone major-league campaign with the D-backs in 2021, he had a rough 7.79 ERA (5.77 FIP), 1.79 WHIP and 17.3 percent strikeout rate in 17 1/3 relief innings. Bukauskas will provide relief depth for the M's in 2023.

J.B. Bukauskas Experiencing Hamstring Tightness

Arizona Diamondbacks relief pitcher J.B. Bukauskas (shoulder, hamstring) was slated to throw a live pitching session this week. However, he began experiencing hamstring tightness and the session was pushed back. The 25-year-old right-hander was diagnosed with a Grade 2 teres major strain during spring training and he has been working his way back ever since. On June 2, he threw 25 pitches in a live batting practice session. He'll need to complete at least one more live pitching session before receiving a rehab assignment. Bukauskas saw his first MLB action last year and struggled to the tune of a 7.79 ERA and a 1.79 WHIP over 17.1 innings.

J.B. Bukauskas Suffers Grade 2 Strain

Arizona Diamondbacks relief pitcher J.B. Bukauskas suffered a Grade 2 teres major strain in his first spring outing last Thursday. Manager Torey Lovullo said the injury is similar to the one Taylor Clarke had last season, which sidelined the right-hander for over seven weeks. It's a tough break for the 25-year-old right-hander, and he doesn't figure to be back with the team until sometime late in the second half of the season. Bukauskas made his MLB debut in 2021 and allowed 15 earned runs in 17 1/3 relief innings (7.79 ERA) while striking out 14 and walking seven in 21 relief appearances for the Snakes.

J.B. Bukauskas Optioned To Triple-A Reno

Arizona Diamondbacks relief pitcher J.B. Bukauskas was optioned to Triple-A Reno following Tuesday night's game, the team announced on Twitter. One of the team's top pitching prospects entering the season, Bukauskas has struggled in his first taste of the majors this year, going 2-2 with a 7.98 ERA, 1.841 WHIP and 17.4 percent strikeout rate over 14 2/3 innings of work. He still has the potential to be a solid starting pitcher in the future, but for now managers in redraft formats can safely ignore Bukauskas.

J.B. Bukauskas Sent To Reno For Rehab

Arizona Diamondbacks relief pitcher J.B. Bukauskas (elbow) was sent to Triple-A Reno to begin a rehab stint. The 24-year-old has been out since mid-may, so it appears as if he is nearing a return to the big club. However, he struggled before going down with the flexor strain, posting a 1-1 record and an 8.31 ERA throughout eight innings of service. Still, he does have some attractive fantasy qualities and may also find himself with an expanded role moving ahead, especially with the team dealing with injuries throughout the rotation.

J.B. Bukauskas Throws Pen Session

Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher J.B. Bukauskas (elbow) threw a bullpen session on Saturday. Nonetheless, he still remains without a firm return date as he continues to work his way back from a strained elbow suffered back in mid-May. The 24-year-old hasn't done much this season, and he has struggled by sporting an 8.31 ERA throughout 11 games. As a result, fantasy managers in virtually all formats can safely part ways with him. However, Bukauskas is someone to keep an eye on, primarily since the team continues to deal with a multitude of injuries throughout the rotation.

J.B. Bukauskas Continues To Make Progress

Arizona Diamondbacks relief pitcher J.B. Bukauskas (forearm) remains without a firm return date. However, he recently threw 23 pitches in a simulated game on Tuesday, which is good news as he continues to work his way back from a strained elbow. The 24-year-old logged a 1-1 record throughout 11 games but was sporting a miserable 8.31 ERA before going down with the ailment in mid-May. With the team missing some members of the rotation, Bukauskas could be in line for an enhanced role upon his return. However, in the meantime, Corbin Martin and Matt Peacock should continue to benefit, although both men are likely free agents in most fantasy leagues.

Madison Bumgarner, J.B. Bukauskas Begin To Throw

Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner (shoulder) and relief pitcher J.B. Bukauskas (elbow) are throwing, as they continue to work their way back from injury, according to Zach Buchanan of The Athletic. Bumgarner has been sidelined for a week with left shoulder inflammation, while Bukauskas has been out for nearly a month with a right elbow flexor strain. Bukauskas had started off the year looking good on the mound by allowing just one walk with three strikeouts over his first three appearances, but since then he's allowed eight runs in 5 2/3 innings of work. Meanwhile Bumgarner had put together a stretch of six great starts in a row, posting a 1.32 ERA and 4-1 record with 39 strikeouts over 34 innings of work in that span. But since May 22, Bumgarner had gone 0-2 with a 12.00 ERA over 12 innings of work. Both pitchers could have some value going forward, but managers shouldn't go out of their way to chase either one immediately upon their activation from the IL.

J.B. Bukauskas Placed On Injured List Saturday

Arizona Diamondbacks relief pitcher J.B. Bukauskas (elbow) was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a right elbow flexor strain, the team announced on Twitter. One of the top prospects in Arizona's system, he's been inconsistent over his last few appearances after starting off the year with four straight scoreless outings. He now sports an 8.31 ERA with eight strikeouts in 8 2/3 innings of work this season. In a corresponding move, the Diamondbacks selected Yoan Lopez from Triple-A Reno.
