Jesus Sanchez Exits Due to Wrist Contusion

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jesus Sanchez (wrist) was removed early during Sunday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. Sanchez appeared to be talking to someone in the right field seats during a mound visit in the sixth inning. There seemed to be some miscommunication, and they threw the ball at Sanchez, assuming they were playing catch. The ball hit Sanchez in the wrist area and forced him to exit the game. The X-rays came back negative for any fractures, so Sanchez should be considered day-to-day. Before leaving, Sanchez was 1-for-2 at the plate with a single. Yohendrick Pinango took over in right field for Sanchez, and could see more playing time if Sanchez misses a few games.

Blue Jays Acquire Jesus Sanchez From Astros

The Toronto Blue Jays acquired outfielder Jesus Sanchez from the Houston Astros on Friday in exchange for outfielder Joey Loperfido, general manager Dana Brown told The Athletic's Chandler Rome. It was a money-saving move for the Astros, with Sanchez owed $6.8 million in 2026, while Loperfido is making the league minimum. The move to acquire Sanchez will give Toronto more outfield depth, with Anthony Santander (shoulder) potentially missing the entire season. The 28-year-old was traded to Houston from the Miami Marlins last year, and he hit just .199/.269/.342 down the stretch (48 games) with four home runs and 12 RBI. Sanchez's production was underwhelming despite a 43.4% hard-hit rate, 11.1% barrel rate, and 91.3 mph average exit velocity. He'll have a positive hitting environment in Toronto, but Sanchez might be ticketed for a platoon role in left field with the Jays. The acquisition of Sanchez is bad news for the lefty-hitting Nathan Lukes.

Joey Loperfido Traded to the Astros

Outfielder Joey Loperfido was sent from the Toronto Blue Jays to the Houston Astros on Friday in exchange for outfielder Jesus Sanchez. Loperfido heads back to the team that drafted him back in 2021 and the team he debuted with in 2024. In 122 career games in the big leagues, the former seventh-round draft pick has slashed .248/.297/.392, but has some big power that could prove fantasy-worthy if he gets regular at-bats, although he'll likely begin the season in a platoon role. Sanchez has even bigger power, with 93rd-percentile bat speed, which produced the longest home run of the 2024 season, a 480-foot blast that came off the bat at 116.4 mph. The 28-year-old has some base-stealing ability, too, swiping 13 in 134 games last season, but the left-handed slugger struggles versus left-handed pitching (career .181 AVG), so he will likely be relegated to a platoon role early in the year as well. Without regular at-bats, neither player is draftable in most fantasy formats.

Jesus Sanchez Drawing Considerable Trade Interest

The Athletic's Chandler Rome writes that Houston Astros right fielder Jesus Sanchez is drawing considerable trade interest this offseason. However, Sanchez's dismal performance following his trade from the Marlins to the Astros might impact his value. Multiple sources believe the Astros' best avenue to acquire an established starting pitcher is via a trade, which could be Sanchez or center fielder Jake Meyers. Sanchez, 28, hit .256/.320/.420 with 10 homers, 36 RBI, 40 runs, and nine steals in 86 games with the Fish before being traded to Houston. With the Astros, he hit .199 (29-for-146) with four homers, 12 RBI, and 40 strikeouts in 48 games. Despite dropping his strikeout rate to 22.1% in 2025 while sporting a 43.4% hard-hit rate, 11.1% barrel rate, and 91.3 mph average exit velocity, Sanchez's OPS sat at just .699. His metrics point to more potential, but a breakout is unlikely to happen if he's not allowed to face left-handed pitching.

Jesus Sanchez Tallies Five Hits

Houston Astros outfielder Jesus Sanchez had a huge performance at the plate in Thursday's 7-2 victory against the Orioles, going 5-for-5 with a double, one run, and one RBI. This broke the 27-year-old out of a massive slump, as he was hitless in his last 27 at-bats heading into the day. Despite a suboptimal .249/.310/.400 slash line and even worse performance since being dealt to Houston at the trade deadline, he's locked down consistent playing time for his new club. The slugger starts most days in a corner outfield spot, although he does occasionally sit when a lefty is on the mound.

Jesus Sanchez Traded to the Astros

The Houston Astros are acquiring outfielder Jesus Sanchez from the Miami Marlins on Thursday in exchange for right-hander Ryan Gusto, sources tell MLB.com's Mark Feinsand. The Astros get the left-handed bat they had been searching for at the deadline with All-Star outfielder Yordan Alvarez (hand) having missed most of the 2025 season. The 27-year-old Sanchez will take his .256/.320/.420 slash line with 10 home runs, 36 RBI, 40 runs and nine stolen bases to Houston for the final two months of the season. The Dominican outfielder will still probably be involved in the strong side of a platoon against righties with the Astros and he'll be joining a much better lineup, but he also figures to hit lower in the batting order with the move. Sanchez has lowered his strikeout rate and raised his walk rate but has hit .130 (7-for-54) with one of his 10 homers against lefties.

Jesus Sanchez Absent on Wednesday

Miami Marlins outfielder Jesus Sanchez is out of the starting lineup ahead of Wednesday's game against the Cincinnati Reds. Sanchez will head to the bench for the first time since June 29. This appears to be a routine rest day for Sanchez who is hitting .321 over the last week. Dane Myers will cover right field and bat sixth versus left-hander Andrew Abbott on Wednesday. Sanchez should be drawing more interest in deep leagues with his play recently. Myers isn't worth a look as a streaming option against a tough southpaw in Abbott.

Jesus Sanchez, Kyle Stowers Sitting Against Southpaw

Miami Marlins outfielder Jesus Sanchez and Kyle Stowers will head to the bench on Wednesday against the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies with a lefty on the mound. Heriberto Hernandez is starting in right field and batting cleanup, while Javier Sanoja is in left field and hitting ninth against Phillies lefty Ranger Suarez. It's the second straight game on the bench for Sanchez with the Fish facing another southpaw. He has hit just .172 (5-for-29) with one of his seven homers on the year and 10 K's in 33 trips to the plate against lefties. The 27-year-old could be back on the bench in Thursday's series finale with another lefty on tap. Hernandez is in a prime run-producing spot in the lineup and has been hot in his first 13 big-league games, going 12-for-34 (.353) with a homer, two doubles and three RBI. Sanoja should be faded as a deep DFS sleeper.

Jesus Sanchez Shines in Victory Against Rays

Miami Marlins outfielder Jesus Sanchez was the star of the club's 11-10 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday. Sanchez finished 2-for-5 with a home run, a double, and five RBI to lead the Marlins' offensive onslaught. With the Marlins down 4-1 in the third, Sanchez stepped to the plate with two men on and crushed a 425-foot bomb off right-hander Taj Bradley to tie the game. His two-run double in the fifth inning gave the Marlins a 7-6 lead, and they never trailed again after that. Sanchez was the owner of a dreary .610 OPS at the end of April, but his production has taken massive steps forward over the past month-plus. Since the start of May, the 27-year-old has raised his line to .269/.354/.417 with five HRs, 23 RBI, and six steals over 172 plate appearances. He has a difficult matchup Sunday against Rays righty Drew Rasmussen, who has gone four straight starts without allowing a run.

Jesus Sanchez Continues Hot Hitting

Miami Marlins outfielder Jesus Sanchez went 3-for-5 with a single and two doubles in Monday's 6-4 loss to the Colorado Rockies. The 27-year-old scored and drove in a run while drawing a free pass. He's up to a hit in eight straight appearances (six starts), batting an eye-popping .449 (13-for-29) over the stretch. During the streak, he's tallied two homers and three doubles to go along with six runs scored and four RBI. Sanchez is still striking out at an elevated clip (21.3%), but he's brought his walk rate into the double digits (12.2%) for the first time since his cup of coffee in 2020. The 6-foot-4 lefty has occupied the first or second spot in the Marlins' lineup in all but two starts since May 9 and hit .289 over 83 at-bats in the month.
