McCade Brown Called Up for MLB Debut on Sunday

The Colorado Rockies selected the contract of rookie right-hander McCade Brown from Double-A Hartford on Sunday and optioned left-hander Lucas Gilbreath to Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding move. The team also moved right-hander Dugan Darnell (hip) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL. Brown will make his major-league debut and start Sunday's series finale against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park. The 25-year-old has a good matchup in the Bucs and has posted a solid 2.47 ERA and 1.07 WHIP with 105 strikeouts and 30 walks in 76 2/3 innings with Hartford and High-A Spokane this year after returning from Tommy John surgery that he had in 2023. Fantasy manager in deep NL-only leagues may want to take a flier on him, but he's not guaranteed to stick in the rotation, and his lack of experience makes him an extremely risky fantasy streamer.

McCade Brown Expected to Start for Rockies on Sunday

MLB.com's Thomas Harding says to expect Colorado Rockies right-handed pitching prospect McCade Brown to be called up from the minors to start on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park. The former third-round pick in 2021 has proven that he's fully healthy after having Tommy John surgery on his right elbow in 2023. The 25-year-old has a combined 4-2 record with a 2.67 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 105:30 K:BB in 76 2/3 innings pitched over 20 starts on the farm this year between High-A Spokane and Double-A Hartford. While Brown has handled himself well in Colorado's farm system this year and would have a nice matchup on Sunday against the last-place Bucs, fantasy managers should be wary of rolling with Brown in what would be his MLB debut due to the fact that he has yet to pitch at Triple-A. Brown is not on MLB Pipeline's list of the Rockies' top-30 prospects, either.
